Yes or no, will the Purples win out?

 

Or will McCallie (TN) beat them? Pulaski County in round two setting up a rubber match in the state finals?

And how good is this BG Team vs. the last three?

If BG wins out it would be the biggest feat in Purples history. I really believe that. On defense this year we will be in every game. No team outside of McCallie will score much on us.

 

Comparing to last three years, there is no comparison. I know I sound like a broken record but I truly believe there were not 25 better offensive teams in America.

BG finds ways to win, having known these kids since Middle School, Im rooting for them, they win out. GO Purples.

I think it will be awesome if the streak continues, but I'm picking them to be knocked off before seasons end...

What does McCallie have this year? That's the fly in the ointment, IMHO.

McCallie is loaded with speed...much more than the Purples have. If BG wins the next two, I agree it may be the greatest feat ever accomplished by BG Football. A dam can only hold for so long against constant high-end pressure. Owensboro is no automatic win either. The Red Devils know how to beat BG and are the sons of men who have beat BG too. The next two games are a tall order for BG.

I agree with everything already mentioned in this thread. Next Friday is a much bigger game that people think because some in Owensboro are saying this is the best Owensboro team ever. Owensboro, McCallie and Pulaski County are the only teams left that I think are capable of beating BG.

Anyone saying this is the "best Owensboro team ever" is officially insane. They may be good but this team is NOWHERE near some of the teams they have had. We're talking about a school that has had multiple occasions of having NFL talent on the field as well as 3+ D1A guys out there at once. This Red Devil team doesn't have that.

A so-so Warren Central team beat Owensboro by three TDs at Rash last year. If you think Owensboro is a threat then you'd still have to place Warren Central in that category. Not even close to the best ever at Owensboro. Very good, but not great. Great oboro teams have a GREAT defense, this team doesn't.

The Red Devil teams from the mid 1940s through the mid 1970s would chew the current team to pieces! BGHS went winless against the Red Devils from 1956 through 1971 (they finally beat them 14-13 in 1972). The only non-losing effort during that time was a 7-all tie for Homecoming in 1964. Still, the Devils are always tough to beat at the Dungeon, where they've played since 1926. The Purples and the Devils have met 72 times to date (only Glasgow has played the Purples more...75 games). BGHS has finally managed a competitive record against them, 32-38-2 all time, since the 1980s.

 

I dare say that McCallie is the fastest team the Purples have ever played. In one incredible 30 second sequence last year in Chattanooga, the two teams combined for three touchdowns...two on kickoff returns! Defense and special teams had better be on their toes, or that team will beat the Purples. I'm hoping that the long trip from Chattanooga will help slow them down some!:thumb:

On the Purple Nation broadcast last night I am thinking they said that is what the Owensboro coach is saying.

Not to pile on as others have already refuted this claim, but this Owensboro team isn't even close to the best Owensboro team ever. I don't remember the Mark Higgs days or some of their other great teams in the past, but the best Owensboro team that I ever saw was the one with Justin Miller, Bo Smith, Brandon Hanley and another kid, Carr or something like that who were all studs.

Obviously Miller went on to the NFL and Smith had a great career at UK.

 

I honestly don't really feel like this Owensboro team will be much competition for Bowling Green. I expect the Purples will win rather easily.

Yeah but remember BG wasn't dominate until the last 3 yrs...Its not like BG has been on a run for decades...BG is great right now but dont flatter yourself and send the wrong message that BG was a top notch program back in the day and was the same caliber of a team as McCallier and Owensboro, heck back in the day BG had an incredible baseball team...Guys like Bobby Thompson, Steve Ilers , Mark Bass and Art Vandelay don't come along very often:My grandpa said they were amazing athletes thumb:
