This game is nicknamed the Backyard Bowl (or sometimes the Backyard Brawl).

The Generals hung tough with defending 6A State Champions Scott County in the opening week. And easily took care of Louisville Central on the road. WKU commit 'Lucky' Jackson is on a tear in the two games.

The Knights came out the gate strong against Allan County-Scottsville but could not get by the Bowling Green Purples.

Who wins and why?

Lexington Catholic 34-28.

I'll take Catholic. Lafayette seems much improved, even though Central looks to be down, and this shouldn't be the one-sided affair of the last 2 seasons.

It seems like every year that Lafayette plays LexCath, they have the horses/ athletes to grind out a victory... but seems to come up short every time. So who's to say they will win this year with the athletes that they have? This game will be closer than previous years. It could go either way 28-21. Either Lafayette or LexCath wins..

Lex Cath win easily as long as it doesn't continue to shoot itself in the foot. The Knights have a very good football team with an excellent trigger man. I think people are seeing the score of the BG game and not realizing that it was a much closer game.

True statement.

LexCath had one more first down than BG, had around 50 yards more passing than BG, only 4 less yards rushing than BG. But the Knights had 3 turn overs (2 intercepts and a fumble) and BG had none. BGs first two possessions were inside the Knight 40 and the defense kept them from scoring the first series. The defense did well given BG started with pretty good field position in a few series. The Knights also had a long TD called back on a questionable call and that series ended with a punt. BG won the turnover battle and field position battle for sure.

Lafayette is definitely better this year. Walker Wood has taken over at quarterback and was impressive against Scott County going 10-17 for 203 yards and three TDs against the defending state champs. Lucky Jackson is the Generals top threat receiving. He caught all 3 TD passes against Scott County. The Generals also took care of Central in Louisville but its their performance against Scott County that has me concerned. The game is at Lafayette and the Generals would like to reverse the trend of losses since the schools resumed playing each other a few years ago. I would suspect a tight game Friday night.

34 LC

27 Lafayette

Lex Cath 28

Lafayette 21

Good news for the Knights, junior OL Colin Carpenter is going to play Friday. He was injured in the 3rd quarter against Bowling Green.
