  1. Thanks for the response, Jason. :thumb: If you truly don't believe that Manual can beat St. X., why in the world did you rank Manual (throwing out the won/loss records) in front of St. X. in your personal AP vote? Don't you rank one team higher than another only if you believe that they would emerge victorious in a head-to-head battle on a neutral field at this point in time? Obviously, there are a number of other AP voters who believe that not only Manual, but Scott County as well, would beat the Tigers in a head-to-head game. Would they waver on their vote if they were challenged to defend their ranking?
  2. I've still got a good collection of 45s as well.
  3. I think this week's away game with 6A Butler will provide some insight into whether Central Hardin is "real or memorex". They did not have much competition in their two home victories over 2A DeSales and 3A Elizabethtown. They have a stretch of three straight games in a couple weeks against John Hardin, Western, and Meade County which will really make or break them.
  4. I think it is hilarious that Jason Frakes posted a couple weeks ago how bad the BGP Rankings were for not having Saint Xavier as #2. He noted that there was NO WAY that either Manual or Male could be ranked above St. X.. If you will look at his Courier-Journal Blog this week, you will notice that his AP ballot has Trinity #1, Manual #2, and St. X #3. It definitely looks like he is having second thoughts now! By the way, it looks like the other AP voters throughout the state are coming even more in line with the BGP 6A Rankings. This week they have exactly the same Top 4 as BGP: 1. Trinity 2. Manual 3. Scott County 4. Saint Xavier :thumb:

  6. Is it just me? I can never remember a tougher total group than we have now for Week 4. nWo has presented an almost impossible slate for achieving a perfect 18. I could just as easy get zero points this week! :ohbrother: :scared: :ohbrother:

  11. Most of the posts in this thread are from Trinity supporters who have nothing better to do than take shots at the Tigers. Almost all of them have little use for our personable, kind-hearted coach. With their big influx of JCPS superstars, plus most of the better CSAA blue-collar players, the pendulum has definitely swung in their favor right now in the football arena, so they all are rather blustery. When the pendulum finally swings back in X's favor, they will scurry back into the woodwork and become much more meek and humble.
  12. The Butler Bears are "loaded for bear" this season, and will definitely be too much to handle for the heretofore undefeated Bruins of Central Hardin.
  13. X is out of the equation this year! Outside of Trinity, this is the weakest collection of 6A teams, I can ever remember. Without the Rocks, the 6A Top 10 would have a tough time beating the little 1A Top 10. :ohbrother:

  16. Here are some general rules on when to employ which splits: Normally you like to employ wide splits when attacking straight ahead with quick hitting plays. Wide splits also help when your linemen are much smaller than the opposition. If the defense jumps into the gaps, the offense has better blocking angles to negate the size differential. Narrow splits work best when you are planning to run sweep plays (TB does not have to run as far East/West to reach the corner and turn it up field). It also minimizes penetration from the inside when you employ pocket passing.

  19. Looking at underclass performance is one "objective" (verus the subjective gut feel) way to project future potential performance. There are other factors to be sure (variation in maturity rate, injuries, coaching, changes in chemistry, etc.). However, historically from a statistical standpoint, this has been an excellent predictor at St. X., and it is much better than offering opinions without supporting data. Admittedly, there have been exceptions and hopefully this is one.
  20. Where has my opinion changed? I said that we would be underdogs against Riverdale, Trinity, Moeller, and Cincy St. X.; we would be favorites over Fern Creek and Doss; and the games against Bowling Green, Central, Male, and Manual would be tossups. Nothing here has changed. We will have to "scratch and claw" (which, by the way, is what Tigers do) to win the games that are tossups and those where we will be underdogs. Just because I think we will have to fight hard (scratch and claw) for the win, rather than just take the field and blow the opponent out as we have done so much in recent past years, does not preclude the Tigers from having a chance for victory. Like you, I want them to win and believe that with hard work and proper focus, they can win. It's just that you think that it will be a lot easier than I do......GO TIGERS!!
  21. I'm looking forward to another nail-biter, Purple Haze. We always have a great time when the Purples and the Tigers clash. I truly hope that both you and Mrs. PH can join us at Brother Thomas More Stadium. We will do our best to return the courtesy you have shown us on our visits to Bowling Green, and we promise to be the Tiger-like p-u-r-r-f-e-c-t hosts in all areas but one (with the sole exception being the final score). :thumb: :thumb:
  22. Yes, I have seen many players progress. But don't you also realize that if you progress, it is also quite possible that the opposition is not just standing still waiting for you to pass them by? My hope, like yours, should be that they have peaked early, while we are a late maturing group. This game Friday night against a very strong Bowling Green team will be a giant test to see if we are successfully climbing up the ladder........GO TIGERS!!
  23. Not that I totally agree with everything, but have you bothered to read the BGP Preseason Preview for Class 6A? I think if you did, and given what was written, you would understand better why the teams are ranked where they are. Since you referred to Male, were you aware that when X and Male played as JV's that Male won 30-7. Manual also won 14-12. That's not to say that hopefully the scores will not be reversed now. However, it does seem like when those teams tangle, it will be a real battle and not a runaway. It will all come out soon when they meet head-to-head....GO TIGERS!!
