  6. Can you pick a team who is playing against an out of state team (like Trinity against Brentwood, TN) ?
  7. No Tony, the crap is supposed to stay in the "Litterbox" and not soil the "Sandbox". :sssh:
  8. Let me add my welcome to the site, AvidTiger. You bring a lot of insight and enthusiasm to the St. X. discussions. It's always nice to look around and find more Tigers on board! :thumb:
  9. Good call on that Simon Kenton defense! The way they run that 3-5 is wild, and reminds me of something I used to see a lot from Mississippi State teams. I don't think it is very sound.
  10. With 2 td's in the 1st quarter, 1 td in the 2nd quarter, 1 td in the 3rd quarter, and 1 td in the 4th quarter, how do you come up with "7 scores"? Are you sure you were watching closely what was really happening in the scrimmage?
  11. After all these years, fun times have returned to the BGP Football Forum. Alert the medics and let the steel cage fall around the sand box. However, before things get too serious, I would like a little more time to verify the powder level in my ammunition.
  12. I think that info will be readily available to you if you still can access Trinity's web site. If you can't get it, I'll see if there isn't some other site you can reference. If all else fails I'm sure you can research the BGP threads from early October of 2010.
  13. Sometimes you ask for the near impossible.......go rocks.
  14. Oh, my gosh! I can vividly remember one outstanding St. X. player in that 20-0 1984 Playoff win over the Rocks. It's all coming back to me!
  15. My gosh, I've really missed a lot. My power has been out since last Saturday afternoon, and just now got restored. I love the spirit shown by these new Tiger posters, but even I would have to say that they have drank too much Kool-Aid. We did manage to look good against a rather sloppy Simon Kenton team last Friday night. However in defense of the Pioneers, neither of their star players, RB Nate Powell or LB/TE/RB Jared Bowling played in the scrimmage. Given their absence, I'm not really sure how much stock to put in the big win. But I probably would say that we need to move from #7 to #6. When they talk about all the great backs we supposedly have that were held back because "the Stud", Lamont McMurray was at TB, they need to remember the big 83-7 difference between T&X last season when Derek Bishop was running ruffshod over us while Lamont was being held in check. How then can backs who couldn't surpass McMurray be an improvement? Both the two juniors and the two sophomores that are now primed to run for the Tigers are "good high school backs", but they are no where near the caliper of a "bellweather back" we normally have like a Lamont or Deuce Finch. In regards to Mattingly at QB, he did look very sharp throwing the ball to Wempe. The big thing though is we must find a way to keep him healthy for the season. He has had a lot of injury problems in the previous years. Plus we desparately need to develop more than one receiver for Mattingly's passes, or we are going to make it awfully easy for opposing defenses to negate our new air attack. Moving forward, the BIG POSITIVE THING shown by the Tigers last Friday was how well they operated with an entirely new 4-2-5 defense with people flying to the ball and a pistol spread offense which stretched the length and breadth of the field. We actually threw some deep post patterns....unreal. These changes seem to have brought a whole new level of enthusiasm amongst both the coaches and the players. I know Simon Kenton was totally surprised! :ylsuper: Teddy Roosevelt always advised, "Walk softly and carry a big stick", not "Talk loudly while carrying a toothpick." We need to accept our baby steps and go one game at a time. Our true strengths this season are T-E-A-M, numbers, discipline, and tradition.
  16. We are nowhere near that good, Bert. Simon Kenton is just surprisingly terrible. Given the way the Pioneers played tonight, plus the beating that Covington Catholic put on Ryle, it looks like Dixie Heights is definitely the class of 6A in NKY.
  17. But like the man said, all St. X. does is run the ball. Don't you just love it...the INFANTRY scored 48 on invincible, best-team-ever SK.
  18. I am really surprised that no one has mentioned this high profile scrimmage as yet. The 6A #3 Crimsons will tackle the 5A #1 Purples at Bowling Green this Friday, August 12 in a 6:00 P.M. (Central Daylight Time) preseason scrimmage. I know Manual returns some excellent players from last years squad who have turned a lot of heads at various camps this season. Who, besides OL/DL Manly, will be standouts for Bowling Green in this contest? Who will emerge victorious? I am going to give a small edge to Bowling Green since the scrimmage will occur on their home turf.
  19. Your teams have always known how to throw and run the ball, but they have never learned how to stop their opponents from doing one or the other or both against them. :ohbrother: By "comparable" I mean rated close to one another rather than their offensive or defensive philosophy.
  20. The best part about this is that as far down as we are this season, your self-acclaimed great team is only rated one slot above us. I guess greatness in football is all relative to what you are accustomed. Since the Pioneers have never achieved anything on the gridiron, I can understand your excitement about having a 6th-ranked team. I'm just glad we are not facing Trinity, Male, Manual, Scott County, or Dixie Heights.  This scrimmage should be a tight one between two comparable teams.
  21. Jim, I've always drank a lot of kool-aid when it comes to supporting the Tigers, but at times it pays to be realistic. I am not pulling any "act" when I say that they are way down this season. To our advantage, we will still have big roster numbers to possibly wear down some teams. In addition, we will have a continuity of sound coaching, great team discipline, and Tiger winning tradition on which to rely. However, given our schedule and lack of playmakers, we are going to be in a constant battle to just keep our heads above water. You have had the opportunity over the past 2-3 years to see St. X.'s Freshman and JV teams perform, and have also probably heard comments from family relatives at Tigertown. Haven't you also already drawn somewhat the same conclusion? :idunno:
  22. I agree, Bert. He has always been one, who given the choice, would play anyone.
