  1. Great post, Coach J! I love the insight. :thumb: Your points about Eastern being loaded this year coincides with what I've heard also. The test for the Eagles will be finding a way to consistently play up to their talent level. From games I've watched in the past few years, Eastern, as well as Henry Clay, seem to mysteriously lose focus at critical times. This has really hurt both of them. Finally, I hope that you are right about my Tigers being able to greatly improve over their lower level performance.
  2. If you can call playing for 2nd place being competitive then I can agree with what you are saying. However, on the opposite hand, Trinity is far and away the biggest favorite in any of the six classes, even far exceeding Highlands favoritism in Class 4A.
  3. The question remains if defensive LB Bowling is healthy, at what offensive position does he practice and is projected to play....tight end or running back or both?
  4. I guess with ONLY a #6 ranking, Simon Kenton must definitely be in a rebuilding year. If this were not truly the case, the Pioneers would have shared the #1 ranking with the Rocks.
  5. Besides Stephens and Mills, does star linebacker Jared Bowling play TE also on offense? If so, that is loading an awful lot of talent into the TE position. Do the Pioneers run double tight formations with an H-back most of the time to maximize the use of these three? I don't know, but for some reason I thought that Bowling was scheduled to play RB on offense. Has this changed? I'm just loaded with questions.
  6. It's for sure after reading Jason Frakes preview of Western in the Courier-Journal today, that the Warriors should be even better than last year when they barely lost in the 4A semi-finals. Coach Boyd talks a lot about how much faster they are than last season, which since they were a blur then is hard to believe.
  7. I may agree or disagree with the rankings, but at least after reading the 6A Preview, I have a better understanding of why the BGP Ranking group placed teams where they did. This answers a lot of the questions that I and others have.
  8. From what I've seen, Ryle returns one of the top running backs in Kentucky, but graduated about 30 excellent seniors, one of whom was their outstanding QB. Supposedly last year's JV and freshman teams, who are needed as varsity replacements this year, were not very good. It's really tough for one guy to do it all on his own. Bottom line, I think the reason both Dixie Heights and Simon Kenton are ranked above Ryle is because they did not loose as many of their starters, and their underclassmen who must move up were stronger. This is the only reason I can figure.
  9. In this day and age, everything is open to being handicapped.
  10. I think what we are seeing here is a combination of both. The scrimmage on 8/12 between Simon Kenton and St. X. should be extremely tight by these rankings, with Simon Kenton maybe slight favorites because of a 6-point home field advantage.
  11. You also have Henderson County at #9 in 6A.
  12. Coach Glaser set up his defense to stop Simpson and the running game, forcing someone else on the SK team to carry the load. Simpson did not play more than 2/3rd's of the game because he wasn't used to getting hit that hard, so quite often, off to the sidelines he trotted. Chad Lawrence played a wonderful game for the Pioneers. First he took advantage of the Tigers over-committal to the running game by throwing to the holes in the St. X. zone. When the Tigers adjusted to this, he pulled the ball down and ran for big plays. Nonetheless, despite his heroics and Simon Kenton playing the best game in their school history, the Pioneers returned to NKY with their tails tucked between their legs as 48-34, 14-point losers. If a 14-point loss is the zenith of your bragging rights, then so be it. I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed the game and having the opportunity to host and converse with some great Simon Kenton fans. Personally, I have a lot of respect for the Pioneers. Your pot-stirring antics, uk#1fan, however, forces a come-to-Jesus post on my part. You rant, rave, and belittle the St. X. offense since it is heavily run orientated. What you fail to do is look at the effect this offense had on your team. Despite having by far the best offense in Simon Kenton history, you team couldn't stop a one-dimensional offense and gave up a whopping 48 POINTS!! Your lack of defense against the run cost you the game. Why should anyone even try to pass against such a team when there is no reason? By the way, in regards to this coming scrimmage at Simon Kenton, I look for the Pioneers to emerge victorious. St. X. is drastically down in talent this season and will be very fortunate to avoid a losing season record. Despite what some other Tiger supporters have said, there is no one on this year's squad who will even get a D1 look. This team will have to scratch and claw its way through every game.
  13. Actually, if you go back to sneak a peek at video of last Fall's scrimmage between Trinity and Highlands, you will probably get to see much more of James Quick picking apart the Birds than I would expect that you'd want to see. Last year Highlands had no one who could stay with him. You may also want to go back to 8/2010 and read all the comments about Quick against Highlands in BGP's football forum. I would expect him to be even more explosive as a certified difference maker this season.
  14. Congratulations St. X. Tigers on winning the highly competitive 7th Region Title. It's been a while, so let's take it all at State this time.....GO TIGERS!!:ylsuper:
  15. Time for a two-fisted toast of the best brewskies in town:    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GURU!! :dancingpa :dancingpa :dancingpa
  16. TD, you have scored the winning TD with this great news! All of the St. X. Tiger community is celebrating with you (not many "Rocksters" are held in such high esteem by Tigers as you are). :ylsuper: :ylsuper:
  17. Not really! Trinity getting blown out by Notre Dame Academy, St. Raphael's, or St. Patrick's will do just fine for all of us rock lovers.
  18. I know you are a strong Eastern supporter and are probably miffed that the Eagles had no representatives on the BGP team, but that does not justify your blast at the two Fern Creek players who made the BGP "Big 36" list. Jerrell Moore was a bit of a problem child this season and recently had his scholarship offer receinded by Charley Strong at U of L. The BGP crew was wise in not including him on their list. However, both Brown and Harrington had excellent seasons for the Tigers, are rated as three stars by both Rivals and Scout, have D1 scholarships to U of L, and both were standout performers in the recent Jefferson County vs. Kentucky All-Star game played at St. X. I for one think they both definitely belong on the BGP team, and you have wrongly besmirched their achievements and character.
  19. West, what difference does it make whether the differential between certain teams is numbers, better jimmys & joes, better coaching, work harder, better parental and community support, better feeder programs, prettier uniforms....whatever? Year after year you have certain teams (St. X., Highlands, Boyle County, Mayfield, Beechwood, Bell County, Trinity, Newport Central Catholic, etc.) that are going out and kicking everyone else's rear end. By using the numbers, you have successfully segregated St. X. and Trinity out of the mix, but you will still have the rest of the teams mentioned (all of whom have found the secret winning football elixar) ruling the roost in Kentucky. How are you proposing to resolve this dilemma?
  20. It's very simple Ram. This All-Star format is almost like returning to the Three Class Playoff system which was extremely popular. In the Top Class the Jefferson County Champion was matched against the State At-Large Champion. Based upon the enthusiasm I saw today, I think this format will work great.
  21. Both of Timmerman's interceptions were the result of the ball being batted in the air by on-rushing linemen who did an excellent job of getting their hands up. One of the balls bounced off a player's helmet after being batted and Timmerman alertly snagged it before it hit the ground. I thought the most impressive little known player for the Kentucky All-Stars was Darrell Cross (#84) of Rowan County, who was listed as a WR, but spent a lot of time running the ball. In the program he is listed as only 175 pounds, but he had some superb runs where he demonstrated speed, quick feet, and a lot of toughness in running through and over defensive players who were strewn on the ground behind him. Considering the cold, snowy weather, I was generally pleased with the attendance. As a member of the St. X. community, we were proud to serve as host for this game and hope that the players, coaches and fans had a good time at our beautiful new facility. :thumb:
  22. They usually start appearing around Christmas time.
  23. Who are the head coaches for each team? All the assistants are listed on the roster, but it does not show the name of the head coach.
  24. WAY TO GO YELLOWJACKETS!! :ylsuper: :ylsuper:  :ylsuper: :ylsuper: I knew all season that despite your youth and record, that once you got to the 3A district schedule, Coach Scroggins had you seasoned and ready to win out and claim all the marbles. :thumb:
