Good anaylsis. If Augusta wants to take the next step in their 3 year run to the region the guards have to contribute, something they've struggled with all year.

My mistake, either way both teams beat them.

Very true I was just stating the fact of the season matchups:thumb: These 2 could play 100 times and it would probably split 50-50 or close to it.

Since these two teams haven't met here's some of the common opponents between the two this season and their records against those teams: Bracken, Pendleton, Mason, Silver Grove, Calvary, Harrison, Brossart. Scott is 7-2 while Augusta is 7-3 against those teams. Scott with wins over Bracken, Calvary, Pendleton twice, Silver Grove, and Brossart twice. Losses to Mason and Harrison. Augusta with wins over Bracken 3 times, Pendleton, Harrison, Silver Grove, and Calvary. Losses to Mason and Brossart twice.

Montgomery does lead the season series 2-1. Probably why most still see Montomery just ahead of Clark.

They have some size inside with Moffort 6'6" and Staggs 6'2". They both average double-doubles or close to it. What is Scott's makeup?

Thats the only place you'll see them in the championship game.

Augusta should be able to compete on the interior but thats not going to matter if the guards can't get it up the floor. Hopefully they can or it will be an extremely ugly night.

HC 59-47

Shooty came to Augusta in the 8th grade when I was a Senior. That year myself and 2 of the other seniors on the team had a free period in the mornings during Shooty's PE class. Everyday the kid would just shoot from the start of the period to the end of the period nonstop everyday(hints where the name Shooty came from). Each day we would shoot around with him. Sometimes we would all play him one on one and of course the older guys would win but he always kept playing and kept pushing until one day he finally beat one of us. At that moment you could just see his confidence soar. That work ethic he had 4 years ago has just multiplied since. :thumb:

Well if they were seeding this year then Augusta would be playing St. Patrick again, so its actually Bracken that hasn't won a district game.:sssh:

They were the second best team during the regular season the last two years and still didn't make the regional, it would have been no guarantee again this year no matter who they drew.

Downing is a great defender and role player for the royals, and he has been missed the last couple of games but i dont think that is the only reason they have had a couple bad games. I really think that foul trouble has alot to do with it.

It was the 2001 Tourney. Last nights game was the first time I've got a chance to see the Panthers this season, and I came away very very impressed.

I think that would be great. The two schools used to have a decent rivalry "back in the day." If memory serves me correctly I believe I saw in the Augusta history book that the Mustangs lead the all-time series 27-24? could be wrong.

The guard play will be the biggest weakness this season after losing Josh White and Jeremy Hardymon. Junior Shawn White and Senior Derek Fryman will be looked upon to do the majority of the ball handling. The loss of Matt Groves is also a blow as he was the Panthers strongest outside threat from the past 3 seasons and was also an efficient rebounder. Although the guard play and perimeter play is an area of inexperience, the inside game of the panthers will be the strongest since the 2002 season when Augusta won 22 games. With 6'5" junior center Chris Mofford rapidly improving his quickness and footwork he will be a force down low offensively and altering shots if he can keep himself in postition. The Panthers most consistent player from a year ago Dustin Staggs will also be returning for his senior season. He averaged around a double-double a game last season. If the post players remain consistent and the guards and wings improve then Augusta will be poised for their 3rd consecutive region appearence.

Why I remember when Uncle Matt and All-Star were wee little pups waiting for the chance to bark on the blacktop with the big dogs, now its the older dogs still trying to stay on the court.

Natural?? No I'm not Josh Hamilton. Yes they had enough. Came off the bench as a 7th grader. Started the next 5 years in the middle infield.

I played varsity baseball when I was in the 7th grade.
