Gene Kirk should be at the top of the list.

Pietriskwi- Corbin Great Coach, has took a really young team and did a great job with them.

Spurlock- Clay Co This man did a great job at Clay this year he took an extremely young and new team and actually made most clay co fans happy, which is tough thing to do..

Wright- South Great Coach, but here latley he has had top notch players to work with, so I want to see how he does in the next couple years without Profitt and the other boys.

Strange- Pineville Did a great job this year

Edwards- Cumberland, his team should be VERY good next year

14th:

Alan Hatcher- with all his accomplishments, its hard not to put this guy at number one.

Al Holland- multiple regional titles and his teams always compete in the region. However, he has been the coach at the region's largest school (but now may be second largest to LCC), so it will be interesting to see how he does at Hazard.

Kyle Lively- led Jackson City to its best year ever, and had a very successful year at Powell County before losing to the eventual regional champs, JBS. He also has two Coach of the Year awards in just two years of coaching, pretty impressive.

Gary Stepp- has turned June Buchanan who was always at the bottom of the region into a very competitive team. They won the region last year, went to the semi-finals the year before, and are the favorite this year.

John Noble- has turned Buckhorn completely around. They have been very competitive the last few years, and should compete again this year.

16th Region

Rick Mays- Gets the most out of the Kids he has and that have grown up right there in Sandy Hook! No Black Marks or "Rumors" for this coach.

Roger Zornes-Now that he has returned from the Buckeye Land, Zornes should have and immediate impact on the 16th Region. He has a reputation for "Runnin' and Gunnin" with full court pressure a constant.

Rex Cooksey- Time proven "General" who has made class"A" Fairview a contender every time they step on the floor.

Buddy Biggs-New to the region, but showed great improvement with the Tomcats. Class Act guy who will be fun to watch against Zornes.

Nothing against your choices but I will go out on a limb and say Steve Dodd is definitely better than a couple people you have on this list. Not to take away from a few guys on the list but they propably do not even have a 500 winning percentage and the district championships they have could be counted on one hand combined. ( obviously Zornes not included and Biggs is a newcomer.)

Madduxace, nothing against Coach Dodd but, Let's face it, with the talent he received courtsey of the Rose Hill break up, and what he actually did with that talent, I can't quite agree with you that he is better than a couple of the above mentioned coaches. One in particular who beat him this year to go on and win the 16th Region with a group of SOPHMORES. Russell plays in a weak district and quite frankly did the 16th Region more harm by going to the state tourney last year with their absolutely lack luster performance against Grant Co. Coach Dodd knows the game and has endured quite a bit while at Russell, but with the talent and support that program has had over the last 2 or 3 years I would expect more.

9th Region

1. Dave Faust- St. Henry- always brings out the best in what he has.

2. David Henley- Holmes- coaches in a tough environment, and his teams perform by the end of the year.

3. Willie Schlarman- Highlands- adjusts his style of play to fit his team perfectly every year, a tough tournament team.

4. Mike Listerman- CovCath- plays a tough schedule, competes wherever CovCath goes.

5. Erik Goetz- Holy Cross- in a tough district, always fields a competitive team (even though lately a district win hasn't come around).

I really like Listerman from your region. His teams are always well coached and very fundamentally sound. I don't particularly like to watch their games from a fans point of view.

I also like the way Henley's teams play.

As far as the comment about Schlarman adjusting his style of play to fit his team, there are two different schools of thought on this. I discussed this with a very successful high school coach that plays a very up tempo style of play, both offensively and defensively. A few years ago he had a team blessed with a lot of heigth but not much speed. The coach tried to change his style from an up-tempo team to a 1/2 court team to utilize the heigth advantage. The team had only moderate success by the program's standards. The coach told me never again would he change his style to fit his players. He instead would mold his players to fit the coaches style of play he believed in. He has had a great deal of success doing just this. If you look at the most successful coaches, most have a basic philosophy of how the game should be played and they stick with it.

I think Russell might have been missing a pretty good player in the 16th region tourney.

Pretty good list.

However, Jim Hicks and his staff at Conner are very good as well, talk about a tough tourney program, seems like every year they beat someone they shouldn't.
