Parents are a powerful source for socializing young athletes about sportsmanship attitudes and behaviors. Many parents ARE aware of their influence on their children and make a valiant effort to make sport a positive experience, emphasizing fun, fair play,and good sportmanship. UNFORTUNATELY, it appears that a growing number of parents have been models of bad sportsmanship for their children.

No its not a democracy, but ask anyone in the college forums on this sight and tell me if those posters believe it is their duty to say what they want. As for parents trying to get involved I agree with all of you that they should keep their mouths shut. I dont think letstalksports was saying that all who had an opinion should go to the coach. He was merely speaking in generalizations. This may be getting off topic because the thread is titled parents.

I don't know about the democracy thing but, the difference between the average fan such you or I for example compared to a parent who may be biased do to their child would hold a substantial difference in a coaches eyes IMO. For the most part I agree with what your saying.

Agreed. All boils down to matchups and which style give your team the best chance to win.

This is indeed FACT. Not only was there a large number of seniors on the team, the parent who came up with this ridiculous idea, his kid was an 8th grader. Lucky to even be apart of any program at that age.

First off there is no comparison between JV and Varsity, the speed, strength, and skill of the game are vastly different. Your also playing 8 more minutes a night at the Varsity level, so more strategery is also involved along with physical and mental conditioning. I agree most should keep their mouths shut, but everyone no matter who you are, is going to think your kid is not necessarily better, but deserves a try when others aren't getting it done.

It works if its done the right way, but most of the time its not. Most high school kids are confused enough keeping up with their own man let alone trying to know where they're supposed to be on a 1-3-1
