Trevor Setty tied his career high with 27 points as the Royals defeated Lafayette on the road Tuesday, 82-62.

Plagued by foul trouble in the first half and only having three points at the half, Setty had 17 points in the third quarter and was a perfect 6-of-6 from long range on the night.

Setty was joined in double figures for Mason County (22-2) by Nathan Stahl with a career-high 16 points and Russ Middleton with 10.

WOW! nice game for Trevor. Royals are starting to really build steam going into the postseason.

Setty is 24,Very nice win on the road for Mason as they were up by almost 30 at one point.Best thing from this game to me is Darius Miller was basically a non factor at 6 points and the Royals still rolled on the road.JV Royals also get a W.Hope everybody made it back safe as the fog at Mayslick was thick.

I think they already had some steam going. The machine just gets stronger and stronger. Honestly, can anyone touch them in the region once it becomes March?

Congrats to the Royals on a very nice road win. There are a few teams in the state that if they "bring it" for 32 minutes, no one can touch them. The Royals have proven to be one of those teams.

You never want to look too far ahead and just take care of the business at hand. But if the Royals make it out of the 10th region tourney, the draw is favorable in Lexington.

While I agree with just about every word in this post, I might edit "favorable" if I were you. Just my opinion, but a possible meeting with Ballard in the second round isn't what I would call favorable.

Regardless, I do believe you are right with the beginning, especially like tonight when Miller doesn't necessarily look for his own shots and gets six points. Setty and Stahl really picked up the slack in two very different areas (long range, close range) of the game.

Miller only scores 6 and you still beat Lafayette by 20.:scared: Talk about sending a message to the rest of the 10th.

Mason's the real deal this year!

Pretty much for the 5 out of the last 6 years.

Great games from Stahl and Setty last night, played the roles of "Mr. Inside" and Mr. Outside" perfectly. How about that trick shot from Nate at the end of the half? Setty really lit it up in the second half with the easier shooting backdrop (first half was on the end of the court with all of the signs).

I normally try not to find much negative to say about a basketball game, try instead to focus on the positives. But last night's game made me realize how good we have things here - not just at Mason County but in the 10th Region in general. Lafayette has a really nice facility. They won the boys state championship as recently as 2001. One end of the gym - a pretty nice gym, by the way - is festooned with state championship signs from a multitude of sports.

And I counted about 60 fans on the home side of the gym. About half of the cheerleaders sat in the bleachers (there was plenty of room for them) and talked or did homework. No pep band. High school kids out on the floor shooting baskets during halftime; still there when the players returned to the floor. There was absolutely no energy in the place. I cannot imagine going to a Mason County game, (or Clark County, or Deming, or Bracken County, or Augusta or St. Pat or almost anywhere in our corner of the Commonwealth) in an atmosphere so devoid of school spirit. I'm hoping that maybe it was a combination of UK at home, Lafayette playing a non-rival, some rational explanation.

Anyway, great showing for the Royals on the road (except for the 13-0 run by Lafayette that got them to within 10) in a game where Miller basically looked for his teammates. Much tougher test coming up tonight!

An accurate description of Fayette County basketball. This year, you will see the same type atmosphere you witnessed last night at every school except Tates Creek (they are winning this year). I have not yet been to a game at Bryan Station's refurbished gym.

There are a lot of reasons/excuses for it. You do have it good in Mason County! Maysville reminds me of the town I grew up in. Great support of the teams and the kids who make the sacrafice to play basketball......the way it ought to be!

Go Royals!

I didn't realize a date with Ballard loomed possible in the 2nd round til you mentioned it and I looked at the bracket again. I'm just always right on top of things. lol

Your right we also was talking about how small the crowd was there,We had to out number them 2-1 in fans and it was an hour trip. The band i dont understand why they wasnt there they have won the state band championship 12 out of the last 17 years you would think they would want to show that off a little.
