gold sunrise
What does Augusta need to do to improve in 2007/2008? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.
Devilman
I say they may be better then some think they'll be. I know they had some underclassman that could play.
panther15z30
The guard play will be the biggest weakness this season after losing Josh White and Jeremy Hardymon. Junior Shawn White and Senior Derek Fryman will be looked upon to do the majority of the ball handling. The loss of Matt Groves is also a blow as he was the Panthers strongest outside threat from the past 3 seasons and was also an efficient rebounder. Although the guard play and perimeter play is an area of inexperience, the inside game of the panthers will be the strongest since the 2002 season when Augusta won 22 games. With 6'5" junior center Chris Mofford rapidly improving his quickness and footwork he will be a force down low offensively and altering shots if he can keep himself in postition. The Panthers most consistent player from a year ago Dustin Staggs will also be returning for his senior season. He averaged around a double-double a game last season. If the post players remain consistent and the guards and wings improve then Augusta will be poised for their 3rd consecutive region appearence. PRESSROW
With the right draw come district tournament time, Robin to the Region could be a 3 peat, and it couldn't happen to a better man nor a more loyal man than Robin Kelsch. As long as they have a Shooty, they have a weapon.
Bird Man
I talked to Coach Kelsch two weeks ago and he said that his team had a very good summer. They traveled to Georgetown's team camp and beat some good teams. He also said that Dustin "Shooty" Staggs had a great summer by leading the team in both points and rebounds. IMO, I believe that A-town will surprise some people this year. Like Jay Bilas said, Coach Kelsch will always have his team competing and playing hard. Good luck to the Augusta Panthers this year. ATown Pride
I have seen them play all but of a couple of the summer games, including the camp games. This will be a good year for A-town. There is still work to be done but that is the case on every team. Shooty Staggs had a very good summer. Chris Mofford really surprised me at times with his ball handling and footwork. The Guard positions I feel will be fine with both Shawn White and Derrick Fryman. Shawn has a tenacious attitude and will give a lot of players fits. Joey Crouch also played well all summer. Brayde Hamilton is still the most Athletic on the team, he does tend to play out of control at times. Ty Krebs, Ryan Kelsch, and Jo Jo Gray will all add too this teams success. Ryan does have a nice shot (he is a Kelsch) , Jo Jo is also a decent scorer and good rebounder. I was really happy to see him commit to playing over the summer. Ty Krebs is strong player and has a good inside and outside game. There are a few younger players that will help this team out. We will miss one of our incoming juniors, Justin Hargett who hurt a knee and recently had surgery. Good luck Justin and god bless you with a speedy recovery. All In
Believe that the players that left, via graduation, will benefit this team greatly. This team is more team-oriented and it will show greatly this season. Last year's team greatly under acheived thanks to attitude and lack of team play. Watch out for these kids this season in the All A.
