Thought this one might be a little closer. How many turnovers for each team in this one? I'm sure both teams will have good seasons!

Now that I've had a little time to reflect on this game I agree with watch Coach Hart said after the game. "It's never as good as you think, and its never as bad as you think." If Ashland is able to play the entire game like they played the 2nd half then that is obviously great for Tomcat fans. With so many new pieces all over the field, no doubt it will take some time for them to gel as a unit. So we shouldnt be too surprised at the sluggish start. Their ability to fight back in the 2nd half showed a lot of heart for a team I thought looked dead. To score 3 TD's to Raceland's 2 is a small victory, and I think this team will average atleast 24-30 points a game this season. I was surprised how good Raceland looked, they looked ready to play from the first snap, and that is why they won and deserved to win. I've been thinking that Rashard Carter deserves a nickname, and I have found one. There used to be a hockey player name "Rocket Richard" Richard pronounced (Rishard). I cant remember who he played for, because I dont like hockey, but nevertheless I like the name. So from now I dub Rashard Carter - ROCKET RASHARD.

Before people jump to conclusions about where Carter went to school and when, let me just tell you that there have been extenuating circumstances in this young mans life. His ability to overcome some negative situations should make everyone all the more impressed with his future accomplishments, regardless of what jersey he wears. I truly feel everyone in Eastern KY will be very fortunate to watch this player grow and mature into possibly one of the greatest running back's this area has ever seen, and maybe even one of the best players in the country in the class of 2010.

Raceland's Todd Selvage #4, WOW What an IronMan, the JR NEVER miss a play the whole night. He made some very nice catches and was in on alot of stops he has to be one tired 16 year old. He played his heart out the whole night. His efforts enabled the Rams to a great victory in Putnam. Coach Hoof and his staff had the boys ready. They are all extremely hard workers and their leadership directly reflect the play of the Rams. It was and is truly "A Great day to be a RAM!!!!!!!"

Ashland's secondary struggled all night. I would hate to know Raceland's 3rd down conversion %, im sure its like 75% or better. That is where they won the game. Ashland seemed to have no gameplan on offense in the first half. Matt Thomas was no factor at all until the 2nd half, where he had some nice runs. Raceland just had a better game plan and great execution. Sparks should have a great year for them. Ashland fans got to see a glimpse of the future tonight in Rashard Carter. The sophomore in his first varsity game had 236 yards on 20 carries and 2 TD's, including a 70 yard TD run. He showcased his speed and ability to make people miss. His game tonight ranks 10th all-time for rushing yards in a single game. Not bad for a sophomore. I have no doubt the Tomcats will come out hungry next week. Im still very optimistic that this team will work out the kinks and have a great year. The sophomore Carter will be a special player....

I really believe Ashland will score atleast 21.....it may be slow going early for both teams. With inexperienced players getting their first varsity action I hope the penalties are at a minimum tonight.

I really think the decision to move the game back is a good one. I think it would be even better at 8:30, but geez that would be another 30 minutes to wait! Haha

I'm sure JC will win this one, but I dont expect them to be as good this season.

Think what you will, but over the last 3 years Ashland has only lost 5 home games, including playoffs. And all 5 loses came to VERY respectable programs. 06- Raceland 05- Ironton, Rockcastle (Region Semi's) 04- Russell, Bell Co. (Region Finals) You don't have to agree, but atleast give credit where credit is due. I'm sure Russell doesnt lose many home games, and Im assuming havent lost a home game in two seasons. But when you play in the district they used to play in its easy to understand why. Hopefully the new class system will bring some better competition to Red Devil Lane....

Obviously it is hard to prepare for these kind of temperatures. The better conditioned and hydrated teams will obviously reap some type of benefit.

Possibly there is mutual respect between the two schools. Maybe Raceland enjoy's coming to Putnam Stadium to open the year. Honestly in Eastern Kentucky is there a better place to open the season than historic Putnam? I doubt it. I would venture a guess that both schools, fans, and teams enjoy this game. Even though Ashland I'm sure has quite a lead in the head-to-head standings, Raceland wins one over Ashland sometimes. I'm sure these wins every few meetings build Raceland's confidence for the rest of the season and give their kids fantastic memories. It would be nice of Russell to throw their "little brother" Fairview a bone every now and then...... Oh yeah.....watch out for Ashland's RB #21 Rashard Carter. He has big-time talent. He will be a record setter if his work ethic matches his God given ability. Ashland 27 Raceland 12

Midee1, The Blue Blazer and little Blue Blazer will be at the Rams-Cats game in Putnam. I will see you on the 31st which is the Rams open week!

He is doing well. He returned a punt for a TD today in 1st string special teams scrimmage. He also deflected a punt last week in an intersquad scrimmage. He is getting more reps on special teams, and is really looking forward to playing Louisville August 30th. He asked me how all the area teams looked and said that he hoped both the Rams and Devils were both undefeated going into week 10. Then I had to hang up on him!:fight: Family Fued!

This was a good scrimmage for the Rams. They had some success but also revealed some things that need work. I know these coaches will go to work this week with a game plan in mind and a focus on cleaning up a few things. The nice thing about going to Putnam to kick off the season is that emotion, and intensity is at an all-time high. I believe everyone is ready for the season, and two of the areas better programs square off in week one in a great place to watch a H.S. football game.

Prediction Kasey Clark will not be the BackYard Brawl MVP for the fourth straight year his streak ends at 3. I'll bet the house on that one. Greenup Co. is better than previous years. However they are not yet good enough to go to The Hank and end the streak. Russell extends the home winning steak, and a new MVP is crowned.
