I wanted to post on this topic before it is closed. First of all, congratulations to LCA. We have started a great rivalry with LCA over the last three years. It is a little special because Coach Raines is a former coach at Hazard and a lot of us know and respect Paul. He is a great football coach and has been successful everywhere he has been. Congratulations Coach Raines and we hope you finally get that championship ring. The LCA team is a great team. We have played them tooth and nail for three years now. Can't say that I am going to miss Witt, Hayden and Burdette, but they all seem to be fine young men and I'm sure will be successful in the future whatever they choose to do in life. They have several friends on the Hazard team but the competition has always been great. Coach Dixon and Coach Fugate for Hazard came in with an excellent game plan. It was executed by the team , with a few exceptions, flawlessly. Great job by them as usual. Some day they will get their just due on the job they do and the kind of people they are. They work their tails off everyday and love their kids. I am very proud to support these coaches and this team. They are all fine young men and I couldn't be prouder of them. Thank you coaches for everything you do day in and day out.

#51 is Forrest Smith. Forrest has made those type of hits all season long.

The kids name is Zack Blanton. Thank you for your concern, but Zack and Hazard will be just fine. What everyone probably doesn't know is that Zack seperated his shoulder earlier in the game and then came back in and played one heck of a football game. A true testimate to the effort that Zack and the Bulldogs played with all night. Zack is only a sophmore and we expect big things from him and the Bulldogs in the future.

Such a terrible tragedy. May God be with this young man's family and the Falcon football family. Condolences from UKFAN1 and the Hazard Football family.

My pre-season picks, as we speak, would be..... 1 KCC 2 PCC 3 Hazard 4 Buckhorn I do not believe LCC is quite there yet, but with the new coach we'll see. KCC is the deepest team in the region. PCC has Hatcher. Hazard has Holland. Should be a dog-fight come tournament time, especially in the 54th District!!

You are probably correct Commander, but they may still be good enough to win the 14th Region. I still believe they are in the top 3 in the 14th.

Hazard is still in the rotation and are actually hosting the 14th Region Girls Tournament this year. Parking is a problem but the folks at Hazard run buses and trolley's to try to accomodate those who do not wish to walk "the hill." Parking is available at various muncipal lots below the gym. If you don't want to walk, catch a bus. I really wish people would give this thing a rest. There is not a regional arena like the Mountain Expo Center in the 14th Region. All of the hosts have some sort of inconvenience or shortcoming (i.e. parking, size, travel, the crowd being on the floor, etc.) There is not a perfect solution to this problem. I personally do not believe letting one or even two schools host the tournament year after year is a legitament answer to the problem.

The Hazard Board of Eduacation voted this year to suspend the competition between the two schools starting next year (Fall 2009).

Actually, the 14th Region was played at Perry Central last year. LCC hosted the tournament in 2007.

What about this possibility. KCC goes to region as winner and draws 54th runner-up in first ropund of the regional tournament. Would be a tough out for the loser in the first round of regional tourney. Could also play out this way if Knott is runner-up and draws 54th champs.

Seems to me you need to stop worrying about what goes on in the Hazard locker room and spend more time worrying about the Commodore locker room. You're a PCC fan. What goes on in Bulldog land is none of your business!! Get over it!!

Please stop the rumors!! Michael's decision to leave the team and lift weights for football was his decision and his decision alone. End of story.

From what I hear, EKU and Marshall are showing interest in Campbell. Allen Fugate is the player you remember and you are correct, he will be a beast.

I'll take a stab at this one. Hazard will return 7 starters on Defense and 6 starters on Offense I believe. On Offense they lose: Tyler Olinger- QB Michael Campbell- TE Greg Adams- HB TJ Searcy- FB Josh Kidd- WR John Combs will more than likely takeover at QB. He replaced Tyler early in the season when T.O. was injured and did quite well. Cory Slone or Andrew Abbott will likely replace Searcy at FB. Depends on who can handle the blocking at that position. Mikael Campbell will get a look at HB. Could be one of the best kept secrets in the mountains. Sophmore Zach Blanton, Sophmore Eric Back, Freshman Austin Johnson and Freshman Jordon Olinger will probably see action at WR. TE will probably be the biggest question going in to Fall practice. Look for Sophmore BJ Combs to get a shot if he can improve his blocking. The Offensive strength will be the O-Line. Everyone returns and should only improve for next season. On Defense they lose: TJ Searcy- DE John Howard- ILB Austin Blanton- ILB Michael Campbell- FS The Defense really improved as the year progressed. Played very well during playoff run in 2008. Several possibilities at DE. Look for Corey Slone to move from OLB to ILB. Forest Smith could play ILB or DE. Eric Back could play FS. Jordon Olinger will probably play some OLB. Austin Johnson will play some Corner. Again, Front Four should be the strength of the Defense. Alan Fugate, Corey Martin, Aaron Moore, Forest Smith all return and should be formidable. Austin Delpont returns to do the kicking/punting duties. Leg should only get stronger. Should be one of the better kickers around. Coach Dixon plays a lot of players and a lot of the young kids got plenty of experience this past season. Another good Senior group coming up for 2009. May not have quite the depth they have had the last few years. Good Luck to Coach Dixon and the 2009 Bulldogs.

First of all, I will agree that the officiating for the Class A Championship was terrible, Period. But I will give you one example of what I think was a "major" blown call against Hazard. One minute forty seconds before halftime. Hazard has the ball 3rd & 2. Head offical sets the game clock. With one minute twenty seconds on the game clock he flags Hazard for delay of game. At 20 seconds!! If I'm not mistaken, the Back Judge usually keeps the time clock anyhow. Very poor officiating! Game changing event! Remember, Hazard loses yardage after the penalty and punts to Beechwood on fourth down. Beechwood goes down and scores with 3 seconds before the half. I call that a game changing "Blown Call". No sour grapes here. As I said lots of poor officiating decisions and technically any could possibly change the outcome of the game. Congratulations to Beechwood on the Championship and congratulations to Hazard on a hard fought championship effort.

Same here Commander. There will be alot of Breathitt County and Bell County fans from Hazard this week!! Hopefully, all the mountain folk will support each other!!

Hazard's field is not ready. The games will be played at Leslie County. Clay v. Leslie at 6:00 followed by Hazard v. Pike Central at approx. 8:00

Would you care to expand on your opinion a little. How is Hazard so undisciplined? How do the coaches not have control over the players? Why do you think Green Co was the better coached team? Why do you think Green Co players wanted this game anymore than Hazard's? In my opinion, this game came down to missed assignments by Hazard on defense and turnovers. Hazard lost the turnover battle 7-2 and coincidentally also lost the game. My opinion: a sloppy first game by 2 pretty good teams. Both teams defense must and will improve. Green Co 1-0; Hazard 0-1 with 9 more regular season games to get ready for the playoffs!! Good luck to both teams.

You must have forgotten about 2006. But after all we were "killed" by Madison Central. Very forgettable.

Don't know the particulars, but why did they interview outside the system if this was such a great hire? Hope it works out for Coach Brumley and Southern. This process may hurt their coaching prospects in the future if it doesn't. Good luck to Coach Brumley and Southern!!
