What does Hazard need to do to improve in 2009? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

I'll take a stab at this one.

 

Hazard will return 7 starters on Defense and 6 starters on Offense I believe.

 

On Offense they lose:

 

Tyler Olinger- QB

Michael Campbell- TE

Greg Adams- HB

TJ Searcy- FB

Josh Kidd- WR

 

John Combs will more than likely takeover at QB. He replaced Tyler early in the season when T.O. was injured and did quite well.

 

Cory Slone or Andrew Abbott will likely replace Searcy at FB. Depends on who can handle the blocking at that position.

 

Mikael Campbell will get a look at HB. Could be one of the best kept secrets in the mountains.

 

Sophmore Zach Blanton, Sophmore Eric Back, Freshman Austin Johnson and Freshman Jordon Olinger will probably see action at WR.

 

TE will probably be the biggest question going in to Fall practice. Look for Sophmore BJ Combs to get a shot if he can improve his blocking.

 

The Offensive strength will be the O-Line. Everyone returns and should only improve for next season.

 

On Defense they lose:

 

TJ Searcy- DE

John Howard- ILB

Austin Blanton- ILB

Michael Campbell- FS

 

The Defense really improved as the year progressed. Played very well during playoff run in 2008.

 

Several possibilities at DE.

 

Look for Corey Slone to move from OLB to ILB. Forest Smith could play ILB or DE.

 

Eric Back could play FS.

 

Jordon Olinger will probably play some OLB.

 

Austin Johnson will play some Corner.

 

 

Again, Front Four should be the strength of the Defense. Alan Fugate, Corey Martin, Aaron Moore, Forest Smith all return and should be formidable.

 

Austin Delpont returns to do the kicking/punting duties. Leg should only get stronger. Should be one of the better kickers around.

 

Coach Dixon plays a lot of players and a lot of the young kids got plenty of experience this past season. Another good Senior group coming up for 2009. May not have quite the depth they have had the last few years.

I hate to remember him this way, but which defensive lineman got the personal foul penalties in the title game? If he is returning, I think he will be a load. In spite of the penalties, I was impressed with him in the title game.

From what I hear, EKU and Marshall are showing interest in Campbell.

 

Allen Fugate is the player you remember and you are correct, he will be a beast.

Campbell signed with Morehead.

 

Quick question, what level is Morehead? The local paper had them listed as D1, I do not think that is correct.

 

another side note: Meehan is back at Hazard after transferring to LCA last year. Not sure if he will be eligible.
