After winning their respective regional tournaments last night, Hazard and South Laurel will face each other in the first round of the Sweet Sixteen. Who wins?

 

I'm going to say:

 

Hazard - 65

I could see South pulling off the upset, though. They weren't expected to be where they are.

Hazard wins. 8 point game or better. Go Dawgs!

Both teams have great coaches... Maybe the two best coaches in the mountains.....

South is a very athletic team, but they are kind of small other than St. John. Hazard has some good sized kids who are athletic as well.

 

I like their chances, too. I'm very torn on this game. It should be a dandy.

It appears this will be a real barn burner. Hazard (30-4) and South Laurel (27-7) have only played two common opponents--Clay County and Breathitt County, and both Haz and SL won these games. There is no doubt that SL has a fine team, but Hazard is also road tested. I believe the fact Coach Whitaker and his son, Josh, are both very familiar with this team, will be in our favor. Also, Hazard's defense has improved as the season has gone along and our bench is very deep (at least 10 deep without losing much quality). For these reason, I have to give Hazard the edge by 5 points!

Im rooting for SL but imo Hazard has to much size for them. I think Hazard is going to the final 4.

I'll take Hazard by 8-12. Too much size for SL and that will eventually wear them down.

I have not had a chance to watch Hazard play -- impressive record. It appears, on paper, the game will be close.

South by a lot more than anyone thinks. South has been to state 4 times in a row these boys know what it's like playing in front of the big crowds and will have no problem with that.

South will represent the 13th well. Hazard better prepare well or they will be like most teams the Cards have faced this season.
