That made me smile. True, Boyd has some rebuilding to do.... Many schools have been there (like my Elliott), but it is uncommon for BC to be so down.

Funny thing..... people (not saying that it has ever been you) keep telling Elliott supporters to "enjoy the ride." While others complain about the passionate support, overconfidence, or (in this case) the amount of support offered. I remember several years ago when there was no support for Elliott County on this site. I had the opportunity to read about the success of other schools--but no dialogue concerning my team. So, for now, I enjoy reading and responding about my team.

I pick West by 12. I am really impressed with the hustle and grit of this team. I firmly believe that either West or Rose Hill is second in the region this year.

Ah... as an Elliott fan I am more than okay with it. Most agree that polls are subjective. It's just amazing to see my team mentioned among the elite! I'm thankful for vicarious living!

I'm optimistic.... I like to think of it as "Beating them once... and almost beating them twice" ... ...ha I think the margin of victory was the same for each game (7). I do see Elliott taking a 12-16 point win though!

So be it then-- Raise taxes. I have never argued against taxation for the betterment of education. However, as a taxpayer I see better ways to raise the necessary money. Redundant social programs, government waste, and LOW property assessments are all culprits of poor funding of education in Kentucky. All students are guaranteed a free and appropriate education--If a student's presence betters a school system (by providing additional money for that system) then "Mission Accomplished!" Good debate though...I like studying both points of view. It makes for an enlightning discussion. Thanks!

AND...... the PVA office is a locally elected official. In my community the PVA office tries to keep assessed values of property low.... to ensure landowners pay low taxes (and that the official is elected again). Of course personal property assessments can't be easily altered...but real estate can. I would assume that this is the same practice that takes place across the Commonwealth. This means that only a fraction (and a small one at that) of the revenue from the tax base in a community goes to fund the local school system. In reality the ADA funding from the state finances the system. If a student is not attending, then they are actually costing their district funding.... Not, as some say, saving them money!

Agreed...sports often becomes a political issue doesn't it? I wonder though....if a voucher was used to transfer a student to a better performing school academically (but not athletically), could a case then be made to allow the student to attend classes at one school while playing sports within their district? I don't like the idea.... In any case, it's interesting to talk about....

If good people do nothing about these failures...then it becomes cyclical. I don't think kids deserve to be penalized for the failures of others. ... However, if we do nothing to improve the situation then we continue to fail more and more children. I think this is the ultimate penalty!

Let's see....I don't think they should be allowed to play. The idea that a parent paying taxes into a school has the right to take only the good things from the district (athletics) and leave the bad (academics) upsets me. If you don't like the way academics are being handled at a school--work to change it. Become involved in the site based council, attend board meetings, volunteer your services, have an "Academic Booster Club." Heaven knows we have lots of athletic boosters that do good work. The name of the team that I support is the "Elliott County High" team....not "Taxpayers of Elliott County." A home school student is not enrolled in the school....how can they participate in a school sponored event?

Here's my two cents...(and that's probably overpriced)! I think he has potential to be a good player. I have no idea why he tries to dribble the ball so much. He is not a guard. He has the ball taken away when he tires to dribble in the backcourt--and the "spins" are niether aesthetically pleasing nor overly effective. ....BUT.... there is time to refine his game and I am confident he will continue to grow, mature, and develop. In my opinion he can have a very successful future.

Who would have ever thought Elliott girls would be in first place in a district that includes East and West! You're making us proud!

I don't think that's what happened last year... At Rupp---Elliott was the underdog--everybody knew that. In the All A region Rose Hill was a force. Some considered them the favorite for the Regional title. Fans may have taken the competition lightly, but I don't believe the players did.

I'm an Elliott fan, and I have to agree that a return trip to NKY next season should be part of any agreement--that just maeks sense. I hope someone fills the void in EC's schedule...

Yep...intense is a good description....they make me a little nervous though. I remember at the East game a West kid took a dive into the scorers' table (going after a loose ball). Love the hustle--just makes me nervous.

I may be wrong, but I think mcpapa is right....most e/w match ups are a battle. Usually hard-fought, close, and heated. I expect this game to be the usual battle! I also see West pulling out an impressive (although single digits) win.

eccheer--I clicked on one of the video feeds from Saturday's game...and it brought up the EC game tonight. I don't know if you found the video feed or not.....but that may work for you!

I was glad to see the rebouning edge going to EC. That's something positive from this game. I wish Elliott had won, but time will tell if this team is a contender for the title. I honestly don't know. I watched them play poorly tonight (credit to the CH defense) and they still were competetive. That, too, says something positive about this team.

I still have to believe that Basketball reigns. I base my thoughts -- Nearly every school in Kentucky has a basketball program. Not every school in the state even considers football. I can think of at least 3 16th region schools that don't even field a football team.---Sure more kids participate in football, but the numbers required to have a team are much greater.

Must say "thanks" to both teams --What a GREAT game. Hated that I couldn't be there...but we cheered loudly from L'ville. We lost the feed the final 34 seconds--killer. Congrats to MC, good luck, see you next year in the Hook!
