  1. Great job Elliott. I skipped out on the parade. Great to be back at Rupp. Just like last season, you have the opportunity to redeem yourself from a previous game (the Anderson Co. game wasn't your best 1st half showing). I'm proud of the team effort and each player. Thank you for the past six years--they have been more than special!
  2. Here's one 16th region fan who will not complain about the officials. I find it ironic, comedic, and even fitting that the 16th region fans complains about the officiating from the 9th region (and vice versa). I'm just glad that these men and women are willing to sacrifice of their time, effort, and abilities to promote healthy competition among high school athletes. Do I take sports too seriously? You bet. Do I complain at the officials at a game? Yep. Can I do a better job than them? No way. Oh, and Marla Gearheart? I have been to many 16th region games this year and have not seen her? Heard lots of rumors; officiating college games, starting a family, and even that she had decided to no longer call games. Glad she's still out there. I think she has done some good officiating in the past.
  3. Nice, he seems to be anything but consistent--or maybe that's exactly what he is?
  4. Understand that, but to be fair to AHS, that still makes them the program with the most wins in the state. Many other schools that did join in the 60's were consolidated schools.
  5. To read his statements in the ADI I would think that he intended to retire from BC. In fact, I think that is what he said. Maybe the grass looks greener in Flemingsburg?
  6. Let me say how excited I am about this game. Lewis County is my second favorite team in the region. In fact, if Elliott were to lose to anybody in the region, I would prefer it to be Lewis. Hampton is classy, and dedicated to his team. As I sit in Johnson Arena last night, it dawned on me. The 16th region final four included three schools that (historically) have had little success in the tournament. The other school, APB, the winningest program in the state. The most lopsided game last night.......ironic!
  7. He has done a great job at Elliott County. However, he should be more cognizant of individual stats. A record-breaking stat can SOMETIMES lead college scouts to take more notice of player. Not that it would happen in this case, I don't know. However, it takes nothing away from a great career, a great coach, and a great season. Thanks Coach Cantrell, here's hoping you spend many more years in the hook!
  8. Wonder why that is? That has always bothered me. Fair weather fans are not really fans at all. I'll be here next basketball season too (God willing)!
  9. Congratulations Rowan. I am anything by happy about the game, but the cookie has crumbled. I am glad the 9th region officials will be out of here soon. I don't think they were mentally prepared for the tournament. With that being said, Rowan deserved to win the game last night. They did everything that was necessary to win. Elliott choked for a few minutes, argued among themselves, and failed to execute. High school kids do those things. It's a part of growing up. Rowan is the better team, and nothing said will convince me otherwise. Griffith is the MVP. I do wonder why Cantrell didn't leave her in the game for one more rebound (to break the record though). THANK YOU ELLIOTT GIRLS. You (along with your male counterparts) have given us an amazing year. The groundwork you have helped lay over the course of your careers will ensure that the programs at Elliott will continue to improve. I don't foresee another 1984 again! Thank You!
  10. Rowan will be the heavy favorite. That can be a two-fold advantage for Elliott. 1. With Rowan the favorite, there are not lofty expectations for Elliott to win. 2. Rowan expects to win, so Elliott may be able to addle them early and get a small lead. It does not matter to me if the Elliott girls score 1 point in this game. I am so proud of what they have accomplished! Five years ago if someone said that EC would be in the championship of the regional tourney, you would have been laughed at. And, unlike some teams, no new players moved in. In fact, we actually lost a player to East. It's been an amazing year for the Lady Lions! You have already made us proud, so do you best tonight and go for the W!
  11. I believe he has already won the award. He has done very well in two years. I believe he brings a great deal to the program. Until Cantrell, ECHS had coaches that had been "brought up" within the program (with the exception of 1 year with an ROTC instructor). Cantrell is an "outsider." He brings a different approach... an approach that has turned Lakin Griffith into a scoring machine. Her growth has been the most remarkable! (IMO).
  12. It may be an excuse, but wow! That building is DARK. The floor seems well-lit, but there are no lights in the stands--it did kind of mess with depth-perception. I blame the poor lighting for me stumbling down the steps :idunno:
  13. Here's my moderately bold prediction: Elliott girls win the 16th region tournament. I firmly believe that it's possible ...
  14. OH... I loved the student section fro WC. West's actons were in relatively good taste High school is about being a kid. Kids have a good time. I'm glad the WCHS student section gets to go to Morehead. When I was a student at WC I never got the opportunity to cheer the Comets on to Morehead.
  15. It's been a tough week for Russell Schools. The district win (round 1) is positive--regional tourney is a tough draw.
  16. I was really surprised that the West Carter student section started the chant "Overrated" 13 minutes before the game began. That could serve as motivation for the opposition. Elliott's rebuttal: "You're not rated!"
  17. Always doing what you do with objectivity! You guys do a great job! My perspective.... it's usually tinted with maroon and black!
  18. For the first time in history I, too, disagree with you. I won't say that Billman did not make calls on purpose.... I will say that he didn't make calls.
  19. Maybe he "calls it like he sees it." Sounds to me like everybody at the game last night feels the refs didn't do a good job. Calling it like we see it.
  20. Elliott has had the better of East twice this year. East will be defending their turf. Thoughts?
  21. Were I giving the COY award I, too, would give it to J. Moore. There has been a turn around at MCHS, and I am glad to see it. Considering the success from year one, I am anxious to see year two.
