They are playing very well, but are at best the third best team in Region 11 right now behind Scott County and Bryan Station. -
If that is the case, the NCAA has changed the rules. It once was, only seniors to be with top round drafting potential would be eligible for the disability policies. Good change by NCAA!

Who was the best QB in the state this year??

I totally agree. Unfortunately, a player has virtually no control over the height the good Lord blesses him with! -
Who was the best QB in the state this year??
strongopenyon replied to rocktalk's topic in KY Football (High School)
No disrespect for Kaelin Ammons. He had an outstanding high school career at Franklin County as both a quarterback and defensive back. He is not a Division I quarterback prospect. The reason is more than just his not being ideal size. -
But he should be protected financially with a nice, hefty disability policy for next year if he is at U of L.

Who was the best QB in the state this year??
strongopenyon replied to rocktalk's topic in KY Football (High School)
Very impressive indeed. However, even more impressive is Trinity's Brian Brohm's one interception in 335 attempts and 47 touchdown passes in 2002. Amazing! -
Boyle County's schedule is tough! It looks like Coach Pardue has no backdown in him..... or, did he inherit this schedule from Coach Smith? Those first five games will make Boyle County tough for later in the year if they can get through them and stay healthy. I wouldn't expect a lot of wins out of those first five, but that is just my guess.

Bryan Station 75 Henry Clay 59

Bryan Station will be difficult to beat this year. Too many offensive weapons and their team plays defense every night. My pick to win the 11th Region this year (and yes, I do know Scott County plays in the 11th Region). -
Bryan Station @ Henry Clay tonight!!!!!!!

Jaron Jones can not handle Victor Moses, but Victor does not get the ball as much as he should. Partly him, partly his teammates. -

List Your Final Class AAAA Top 5 for 2006
strongopenyon replied to All Play No Work's topic in KY Football (High School)
I think that this is the accurate list and order. Good comments as well. -
A couple of things. First, it is hard for me to understand Alabama firing Mike Shula without having another coach already in the fold. Maybe that coach is in the fold, but isn't talking. This might be because of the timing with his team being in a big bowl game. I have a hard time believing the deal hasn't already been cut, just not made public knowledge yet. Secondly, mark Steve Spurrier off the list. The lifetime membership to Augusta National is what will keep him at South Carolina. He is not going anywhere! Guaranteed!!!!!!

Franklin County's Ammons- Where is he going?
strongopenyon replied to MVP_007's topic in KY Football (High School)
Troy State's offensive coordinator Tony Franklin is very aware of Ammons. In fact, Kaelin attended quarterback camps that Tony ran. -
The future of Bob Beatty
strongopenyon replied to EastSideJunkie's topic in KY Football (High School)
My point is that it is much more difficult to sustain this kind of success over time because you have a huge bullseye on your chest and that it is easy to become complacent when you are on top. I do not see this from Beatty or Trinity and that is what most impresses me. You know you could say the Yankees have an unfair talent and resource advantage (like Trinity????) in Major League Baseball, but they didn't even win the American League pennant this year? To stay on top over a long period of time is more difficult than to get on top just once. -
The future of Bob Beatty
strongopenyon replied to EastSideJunkie's topic in KY Football (High School)
Besides his coaching record at Trinity, what is to me most impressive about Bob Beatty winning 5 of the last 7 state championships, is that with extraordinary success comes excessive egos. Egos from players, coaches, parents, etc. Along with egos comes a poison, a cancer that can rip through a successful program or organization and that it down. We have seen it on all levels of sports and businesses. Bob Beatty has successfully sold the Trinity family on checking these egos each and every year and starting with a new mission......winning a state championship. He has a pretty nice business model and blueprint for success! I bet he would be an excellent CEO for some company as well. -
Once more, Ryle can not pass the football. Until they can, they will not beat any of the top teams in the state. Take your second place trophy and enjoy it. Until you learn to throw the ball to balance your running game, you will never win and probably will not "cake walk" to a second place finish, either.

The Trinity program and its successes, rightfully, should be the envy of all other football programs in Kentucky. The Shamrocks and Coach Beatty have raised the bar to a height that will be difficult for other programs (public and private) to obtain.

I see some tough games on the schedule for Corbin in 2007. I do not think they go 10-0.

Memorable state final performances
strongopenyon replied to hurricane's topic in KY Football (High School)
He may have had a great game, but you do not want to know where R.C. Thomas is today. -
Brian Brohm's 47-1 touchdown to interception ratio during his junior year might be one of the state of Kentucky's most amazing all-time statistics. For anyone that has any knowledge of how difficult the position of quarterback is, that statistic is the most unbelievable one I had ever seen!

I wonder if the Mr. Football award is becoming similar to the Heisman Trophy in the sense that it is beginning to be awarded to the best player from the best team?

4A Championship: Ryle vs. Trinity
strongopenyon replied to SHAMROCK69's topic in KY Football (High School)
Question: When is the last time that Trinity has lost a game to an unbalanced, predominately running football team? This is why I do not like Ryle's chances. Trinity's weakness (and I am digging pretty deep to find one) this year is against the pass. I felt last year's Trinity team was stronger against the pass and weaker against the run. I feel a team must spread the field and throw the ball around to have a chance. Obviously, since they are in the finals, Ryle's quarterback has done a nice job this year, but he is not the passer that I think is needed to win the 4A championship versus Trinity.
