  1. You are completely wrong on this. The District 7 #1 seed will play the District 7 #4 seed, and #2 play #3. The District 7 versus District 8 matchup would occur in the third round.
  2. Back to the topic of the thread. I predict Henry Clay will hang 50+ on Lafayette and win the ballgame. The General's defense has given up too many points to several margin to poor teams. Offensively, Henry Clay is far superior to those teams, thus, the scoreboard will light up. I am not sure as to how many Lafayette will score, but not enough for sure.
  3. An excellent piece done by Mark Cornelison of the Lexington Herald Leader about Sam Simpson and his Henry Clay Blue Devil football team. http://www.heraldleaderphoto.com/multimedia/henryclay/football.html
  4. A bunch of good players have been named. The best player not named in any of these top 10 lists is Victor Moses, a 6'4"/6'5" junior at Henry Clay. It is amazing to me that he is flying under the radar on some of these top 10 lists. I don't have to talk him up.......his performance this season will take care of that. I think he is a top 10 player regardless of class in the state of Kentucky.
  5. You make good points, "Son of Bear"......in fact, you consistantly make good points on your posts. One comment. Lafayette did beat Henry Clay in the season finale last year. Lafayette was trailing 21-7 and stayed in the game long enough for Henry Clay to implode. The players lost it, the coaches lost it. Lafayette mixed in some nice crossing patterns underneath and took over the game. Had Lafayette beat South Laurel in the playoffs and thus, had to travel to Henry Clay for the next round game, I think you would have seen an entirely different Blue Devil team. Henry Clay was much, much better than Lafayette last year although the head to head meeting did not prove it. As far as this year goes, tomorrow night will tell a lot.
  6. What do statistics mean? The two teams have five common opponents: Henry Clay Lafayette 53-10 Boyle County 36-33 42-0 Bryan Station 32-24 40-7 Woodford County 31-27 48-20 Tates Creek 27-17 42-3 Dunbar 35-24 Henry Clay has outscored those five opponents by an average of 45-8. Lafayette ouscored those five common opponents by an average of 32-25. What do statistics mean? If they do mean anything, this game will not be close.
  7. At home where Henry Clay has never lost is also key in this matchup.
  8. The question in this one is can Henry Clay stop a balanced attack? To this point, they have not succeeded in stopping any team who can both run and pass effectively. The Blue Devils have had to outscore their balanced opponents. Their defense has had good success against exclusive running teams. How will they do against a balanced team like Lafayette? I would think they will have some trouble.
  9. An honest mistake. Michael Sparks plays for Tates Creek. Who does Patrick Sparks play for?
  10. Dunbar has good looking athletes. Their offensive scheme is prehistoric. Their quarterback has good mechanics throwing the football, but I can only base that on watching him in warmups. Once the clock starts, Dunbar does not even consider throwing the ball. They have what appears to be a nice group of receivers. No Comprende???????
  11. At the start of the year, I thought Dunbar might be one of the teams to beat in the district, even though they lost some good skilled personnel, due to their strength on the offensive and defensive lines. On the other hand, I thought Henry Clay might experience some difficulty having to replace their entire offensive and defensive lines, not to mention also having to replace a three year starter at quarterback. So much for what I thought! Dunbar not winning a game really is shocking. Obviously, there are other issues because they must have pretty good talent.
  12. They seemed to pass a lot more last year with Franklin at quarterback and Greg Couch serving as offensive coordinator.
  13. Semi-final game is more realistic for the Devils this year.
  14. Pikeville played Henry Clay very well. Henry Clay opened it up in the second half as it was 14-0 at the half. For what it is worth, Henry Clay beat Bryan Station 42-0 in a game that was called by lightning in the middle of the third quarter. It was about to get very ugly. Pikeville did play Henry Clay much tougher than did Bryan Station.
  15. Last night's good news is that South Carolina has not been on probation and UK has suffered devastating probation penalties, but yet these two programs seem to be on par with each other in terms of talent. That's great news for UK because now that the probation has been served, their level of talent will greatly increase and that might narrow the talent gap with other SEC teams and translate to a few more wins in the future.
  16. In any game on Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday afternoon, Saturday night, Sunday afternoon, Sunday night, and Monday night the team that loses usually has suffered from "questionable play calling".
  17. In 2004, I remember Scott County making it to the final game, only to get thumped by St. X in the finals. I don't consider a runner-up finish "going all the way". The Publics need to raise the bar and shoot for championships like their Private opponents do......not settle for second place. This is not too far fetched.
  18. Winless Dunbar (0-6) coming off a bye week upsets undefeated Lafayette (7-0). Am I the only one in the state out on this limb? Thoughts?
  19. Nice thread. Interesting. Good work by 12thRegionFan. Just seeing the six classes in the state of Kentucky turns my stomach. For all the "opportunity" this watered down system creates, think of all of the good potential match ups it eliminates. No more Danville/Beechwood or Highlands/Lexington Catholic to name two. I HATE IT!
  20. Good list! Some corrections/additions: Phil Simms.....Louisville Southern Mark Higgs......Owensboro Marc Logan and Kio Sanford......Bryan Station
  21. Where did Steve Bird's father play college basketball?
  22. You might be right and probably are, but with the new playoff format this year only one of the Big 3 will make it to the semi-finals unlike past years.
  23. I think "h.s.sportsrbest" is accurate on all counts. I totally agree with his buying and selling. The Christian County game will tell us all a lot about Marshall County.
  24. And......the basketball season for Lexington Middle Schools begin in the end of January or first of February. It is over by March. These kids are in the gym for just about two months, that being middle school basketball season. This is a disgrace!
