  1. I'm stuck in Erie, PA and for some reason 90.7fm "The Wind" doesn't come through here! Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! DAVE
  2. Paris has been playing well of late, even though they have lost three of their last four. If they can put it all together there MAY be an uspet! DAVE
  3. This may qualify as the worst game I've seen in a long time. GRC easily outplayed a weak Paris team but the Greyhounds struggled to put away lay ups in the first three quarters. Chase Dumphord works hard but gets little support - he had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Tomorrow night's game should be a little more interesting. DAVE
  4. Anyone in and around the Paris area who cannot attend the MMI/Cincinnati Harmony game tonight can listen to the game on 90.7FM "The Wind". Tipoff is scheduled for 7.00pm Commentary will be made by Bourbon County's Assistant Athletic Director and Head Girl's Basketball Coach, Tony Sosby and BluegrassPreps' own guru of the microphone, FreakNasty with interjections by station owner, John Smith. 5. Not true - if you are a TRUE competitor you learn from your defeats! No team or individual is perfect, therefore everyone will taste defeat sooner or later. You should accept that defeat will come in time and be prepared to learn from the situation. Recently I covered a game for our local newspaper where a sophomore starter had a chance to help her team to a signature win if she could sink two charity shots. Even scoring one would probably have taken the game into OT. She missed them both and blamed herself for the loss. I went over and consoled her and told her to learn from that situation. The next time she saw me she thanked me for my words and realised that she had been worrying too much about what the free throws actually meant than just concentrating on the shots themselves. She learned from the defeat. They lost the game 62-61 and the charity shots were taken with 1.2 seconds left in the game. DAVE
  6. As a coach I can say that a certain kind of defeat can be beneficial. I am a soccer coach at MMI. Last fall we visited Lafayette to play their JV team. Only JV, I know, but still a huge game for my team. Everyone expected MMI to get hammered. We held Lafayette to 0-0 at the half and eventually only lost 2-1. The guys felt like they had achieved something major by showing everyone (their coaches included) that they could hang with a big team. The biggest payoff was in the classroom where they worked hard to get through the day so that they could get to soccer practice quicker. DAVE
  7. Can anyone get me a copy of this game for scouting purposes? If so, please PM me. Thanks. DAVE
  8. We had this thread back in December when Oak Hill rolled through on three consecutive weekends - you also missed Jared Long from Lincoln County (unless he has since withdrawn from the school). DAVE
  9. MMI has had two players invited to participate in this game: 7'2" Lawrence Brown (college as yet undecided) and 6'11" Johnathan Uchendu (signed for Purdue) DAVE
  10. As mentioned in another post in this thread, MMI does indeed have two teams. Our Gold team is consisted of financially aided players and, as such, does not play within the KHSAA. We have to travel to surrounding states to find our competition. Our record this season is 10-8 but I must stress here the strength of our team's schedule. Of the eight games that we have lost here is a breakdown of those teams: Eldon Academy (MI) was a post-grad team (now closed) Genesis One Elite (MS) is a post-grad school Oak Hill Academy (VA) is ranked #1 in the country Akron St Vincent-St Mary (OH) is ranked #2 in Ohio New Creations (IN) is a post-grad school Cincinnati St Xavier (OH) is ranked #4 in Ohio Prince Avenue Prep (SC) is a post-grad school Huntington High (WV) is ranked #1 in West Virginia I think most people would agree that the schedule we play is a tough one for any team. Thanks for the interest. DAVE
  11. Which team are you a supporter of, FM? I'm thinking Pendleton, but I can't make it out for sure. DAVE (Added Later) Forget that above, FM - I just saw your post in the Augusta thread!

  13. That's a good question! Arise are coming from the same area as Trotwood does. I hope they manage their time better for traveling down from Dayton. We'll be ready to start at 6.00pm. See you there? DAVE
  14. Trotwood turned up almost 2 hours late and (IMO) got exactly what they deserved. Kudos to the refs and fans who hung around for the game. As one official said, "I've never seen as many dunks in one high school game!" MMI finally put a great game together and everyone in the gym not involved with Trotwood enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Seven Cadets reached double figures in scoring. I will post them later when I get back to school and have access to my scorebook. MMI play Arise Academy of Dayton, OH at 6.00pm this evening. Admission is FREE. If you are not doing anything why not come along and witness a game free of charge? Hope to see you there. DAVE
  15. A couple of weeks ago our JV team played at Berea. We came out of the halftime break with the inbounds. It was played straight to one of our players in our backcourt (he shall remain nameless!). He could not believe how open he was as he turned and attacked OUR basket and proceeded with a lay-up!!. Fortunately (or unfortunately - depending upon how you view it) he missed the easy two and all was well again apart from a very red face once his mistake was pointed out to him by everyone in the gym. DAVE
  16. So far, in seeing around 50 games this season, I have witnessed 5 technicals - three drawn by coaches, one for a player's loose lips and the other for a player entering the court without permission (more by lack of knowledge than discipline). I would not necessarily call this excessive. Is 5 games from 50 the norm or have I been fortunate to see "clean" teams? DAVE
  17. Oak Hill - Cincinnati Harmony - MMI - Akron St Vincent-St Mary DAVE
  18. MMI led for quite a chunk of this game but could not shake a gritty Deming team who landed many free throws down the stretch. The King twins played well for Deming. Deming scoring: King (K) 18; King (L) 11; Caldwell 10; Sparks 2 MMI Scoring: Fenley 11; Barner 8; Walker 4; Sligh 4; Nation 2; Gray 2; Bear (Ilan) 2; Bear (Itai) 2 Deming moves to 2-3 on the season while MMI drops to 2-3.
