Eastern boys basketball coaching job open
With Trinity and Ballard rolling, the Eastern job comes with some pretty tough competition. I suspect Couch may have just had enough of the Louisville scene.

Tyler Smithhart will be new coach at Henderson County
Does that mean Riley sets his sights on Christian County? That would seem like a pretty good match.

Franklin-Simpson hires Doug Preston
Bullitt East was actually the state runner-up. Preston seemed to do a good job there, and reports at the time indicated his ouster there may have been as much politics and personalities as anything else. His principal will be former coach Tim Schlosser and Franklin-Simpson has always been a football school. It seems like a good match.

Henderson County open
Henley interviewed at Henderson County back in the 90s, before he got the Holmes job. Henderson picked Phil Gibson over him, as I recall. He was also a finalist at Marshall County a few years ago, when they hired Gus Gillespie. If Henley has any interest in coming back to the west, it might be for the McCracken County job, which comes open in the spring of 2013. I suspect he will be high on McCracken's list if he chooses to pursue it.

Henderson County open
I had been wondering if Starns was safe, but figured that if Henderson was planning to make a change, it would've been done before now.

OHIO to add a 7th Class in Football
If you're good enough to compete, you're good enough to compete, unless you're playing schools with several times your enrollment ... besides, some schools choose to stay as small as they are. The numbers never seem to affect Beechwood much.

OHIO to add a 7th Class in Football
So what? Ohio is much more densely populated and has about three times the number of football schools that Kentucky does. Regardless of the enrollment differences, the classes aren't watered down by low numbers.

OHIO to add a 7th Class in Football
Are those three-grade or four-grade figures?

OHIO to add a 7th Class in Football
About 36-37, on average. If your math is correct, Ohio would have to go to 18 or 19 classes to be as watered-down as Kentucky.

Is Jaysean Paige a victim of the Good Ole Boy Network?
Oops, looked at the wrong column. I saw Day play at the All A Classic, and while it wasn't one of his best performances, I have a hard time believing he's a better player than Paige. There was a situation in the 90s in Region 1 where a team had an exchange student that was probably the best player in the region, but the coaches didn't even put him on the 10-player all-region team because of ill feelings. I have no doubt that this is the case in this instance.

Is Jaysean Paige a victim of the Good Ole Boy Network?
Paige didn't win the KABC 14th Region award ... there was a tie for the award between a kid from Buckhorn and another from Powell County. I guess we can figure that one out.

Mayfield's LaBront Scott has transferred to Murray to play football:
Scott enrolled at Murray earlier this week. Some will interpret it as a family issue. Some don't see it that way. In any case, it doesn't seem to be an amicable parting.

6A beats 4A for the title, we need a class system, just sayin'
I like the All A Classic, and it gives small schools two bites at the apple, so to speak. Just a few years ago, we had Clinton County make it to the state championship game, and there are often three or four small schools that make it to the Sweet 16. Lexington Christian won the title once or twice and Rose Hill made it to the finals one year ... I know, those are private schools.

State Tourney Who is going?
I'll be there for most of the tournament ... depends on how tolerable the guys in the seats next to me are.

Marshall County 49 Fulton City 30
Fulton City basically has no bench and was very patient with the ball, while Marshall played straight man-to-man and didn't do much to force the tempo. Marshall did a little of it the second half, enough to blow the game open.

Woodford County 60 Madison Central 55
How big of an upset is this, really? Woodford County has been a team on the rise since Johnson's return.

2nd Region Draw
I don't think one guy's experience will make that much of a difference. It will take a considerable upset to keep Madisonville and Hopkinsville from the final.

1st Region Draw
The region is Marshall County's to lose ...
