What is ridiculous about it?

I expect Mayfield will have a letdown, coming off the emotional high of hammering Paducah Tilghman, but expect they won't have too much trouble with Murray. It's a shame we didn't get to see these two hook up in 2009 and 2010 ... they would've been memorable games.

Four classes, just as we used to have them, with Trinity and St. Xavier in a 5A class. They would play each other for a state title every year. It could also serve as the "super class" that some people talk about here, but something tells me there would be no other takers.

Enrollment advantage ... if any other Kentucky system wants to put a school at 2,500 students or more, then they can compete with Trinity and St. Xavier in 5A.

I still say the answer is five classes ... four like we used to have them and Trinity and St. Xavier in 5A by themselves. And yes, I'm dead serious. If someone had the guts to propose it, I wouldn't be surprised if it passed.

My bad ... I thought Brossart was still a Class A team.

As far as I'm concerned, the longest winning streak in western Kentucky is Mayfield's, currently at 18.

Murray has a different coach now, too ... I don't think you can hold him accountable for the actions of his predecessors.

I think Murray would have beaten Mayfield in 2009. I think the Cardinals would have won last year. Both parties agree that Murray wasn't ducking Mayfield, but the scheduling grid, etc., hasn't worked as well as its supporters thought it would. Murray certainly isn't ducking the Cardinals because they knew they wouldn't be all that strong in 2010 and 2011.

Actually, there is a misprint in the stats ... Mayfield had 194 passing yards, which makes for some differential in total yardage.

Correction ... Guhy had 194 yards passing, all in the first half. Higginson had 5 catches for 147 yards.

My synopsis: First, the stats ... Tilghman had less than 40 yards rushing. Jackson had 70-something yards on the ground for Mayfield, but the big news was Guhy, who was 8-12 for 144 yards and 2 TDs in the first half. Higginson caught both TD passes. It would be tough to pick a player of the game for Mayfield. Jackson was typical Jackson ... he's everywhere, making tackles and showing great ball instincts. Scott was magnificent, running down Tilghman ballcarriers all over the field. Higginson was superb, doing a great job of covering Tilghman star J.D. Harmon and essentially neutralizing him. Tilghman's offensive issues were exposed ... namely, other than Harmon, they don't have a reliable playmaker. The offensive line needs a lot of work, so the running game is inconsistent at best. When an opponent has an athletic answer for Harmon, Tilghman doesn't have a dependable Plan B right now. Tilghman was in the red zone twice (1st-and-goal at the 5 one time) and came away with only two field goals. Tyler Presnell, the Tilghman QB that transferred in from Lone Oak, didn't play in the second half. On a scramble late in the half, he was hit hard by Jackson. I never heard exactly what was wrong with him, but he left the game woozy late against Reitz and it may have happened again.

The best of Trigg's three wins ...

Mayfield made quite a case for #1 tonight ... very impressive performance. They spanked a team that is a legitimate contender in 3A.

Maybe the BGP rankings were on to something ...

I was told Henderson had a bunch of turnovers, but that seems to be a pattern with this Christian team. Impressive win.

Trigg County, Lyon County and Crittenden County. Livingston hired a young guy that was an assistant at Glasgow. The Cardinals have never been to the All A Classic, but could break through to Frankfort this year.

Maybe, but a 21-0 victory over an Allen County team that was depleted by graduation didn't do much to help their case.

That's just it ... simply watching a game online doesn't always give you a clear picture of how everything shapes up. Bottom line ... CovCath has an argument for #2, probably just as much as LexCath, Boyle, Western or anyone else for that matter. Have you seen those teams online, too?

Read The Cats Pause preview on Ballard ... they were gutted offensively. I don't know how much you can put on Western beating them, especially Ballard was such an inexperienced team playing in their first game of the season.

Your opinion is based primarily on a score comparison that isn't real valid, based on the difference in Dixie with Pike and without him. That's the only point I'm making.

People are comparing the NewCath-Dixie score to the CovCath-Dixie score, which isn't a very relevant one since Pike played in one game and not the other.
