I know we have a thread about Murray's streak, but thought we start a simple predictions thread and compile the thoughts in here. So, can Murray knock off Mayfield at their place? Will Mayfield have a letdown? Let's hear it.

In many Mayfieldians eyes, well mainly older ones, there is some anomosity for Murray. Many here would really like to see Mayfield take the Tigers out to the woodshed and I think Mayfield wins this game fairly easily.

I expect Mayfield will have a letdown, coming off the emotional high of hammering Paducah Tilghman, but expect they won't have too much trouble with Murray. It's a shame we didn't get to see these two hook up in 2009 and 2010 ... they would've been memorable games.

Bugatti, as a 30 year graduate of Mayfield, I have experienced the bad bood of the Mayfield-Murray rivalry.

Back in the 70s and 80s we played Muray each year, and it never failed to be a game in which Murray would do and say so many absurd and crazy things (coaches, players, and fans) that we lost all respect for them as an opponent. It became a big deal to beat Murray...not outscore them...BEAT them. I have friends who work the chains for Mayfield who were challenged face to face by Murray coaches...DURING THE GAME. The examples are too numerous...suffice it to say that we really do not want to lose that game. This is probable more prevalent in the more mature Cardinal fans than the younger ones.

 

No letdown...beating PT is something we are used to (ouch!) Wouldn't shock me if beat them by 35.

Thanks for the response. I have never understood it (still do not in full) but see where you are coming from. I agree it must be something from the Mayfield 45+ crowd. Though toothpick is in his late 20s so not all adds up

24/7 hit it on the head. Mayfield has felt that they have never been respected by Murray from antics pulled over the years. I suspect we have had more cheap shots from them than any other team we have ever played and the yearly running of the mouth that they use to do. All this type behavior over the years led to past Cardinal coaches making Murray our poster child of how not to act. To this day I suspect that when a Cardinal team or player is not going 100% or there is a cheap shot or anything else the coaches at all levels will tell them to stop acting like they are from Murray High and we of course coined the term "Yeller Tiger" as a reference. Coach Leahy is likely the most out spoken, he will be glad to tell anyone who will listen just how bad he hates Murray. But he is not the only coach, they all seem to dislike Murray and it eventually became sort of a battle cry and it lead to Mayfield teams wanting to not just beat Murray but make it a beat down by as many as we could. Now the Tigers pulled the plug on the series a few years back so I have no idea how the kids are going to feel today but all the old guys from early 2000's back want to not beat Murray every year but give them a beat down. One that they will never forget the night they played Mayfield.

Whipping Murray sorta became the cool thing to do is the way we saw it and they had lost to us so many times in a row, even when they were favored to win, that we just thrived on how bad the frustration was for them. For me, as some of you who know me already know, I would rather beat Murray than I had PT or Graves County and the bigger the margin the happier it makes me. Lets just say I'm not much of a Murray fan
