Do you really think an entire team could tackle Peterson or Clarett tho? The Big 12 and Big 10 couldn't tackle them one year later. You see D3 teams and NAIA teams that can't tackle backs in thier league all the time, now try putting a stud back in there. Blocking would be more difficult yes, but give Peterson an inch and he can go a mile. They could beat some D3s and NAIA schools. I don't see how physical maturity makes that big a deal. One year is not that massive of a jump. I know alot of people on my NAIA team that say this is a step down from thier high school competition. That is just how I see it tho.

I could see a premire high school team like a De La Salle or Long Beach Polly beating some D3 and NAIA colleges in football. They could compete with some of the non scholarship schools definatley. What about teams that have a stud on them like Adrian Peterson was his senior year? Do you think a D3 or NAIA could tackle him considering a year later nobody in the Big 12 could tackle him? I say they could beat some D3 schools and possibly some of the weakest D2, but that would be the end of it. No way they could compete with the D1's

Mr. Basketball is not a lifetime achievment award. It is not even a high school achievment award. It is suppose to be given to the player who was the best SENIOR in the state. So what Allen did as a junior should not be looked at when determing whom to vote for. These are the guidelines when voting. Mr Basketball is suppose to be a one year thing, not a four year thing. That is why KY only allows seniors to win. (I know because I have a vote and read the guidleines every year) That being said I think Walt Allen will win the award based on what he did last year, but I do not think he is more deserving than Slaughter. Slaughter is the better of the two players IMO, but I think Allen will win. Both are stand up individuals and will make the state proud so it's not a huge deal. Good luck to both

A brighter future than OJ Mayo? He was that age last year. Not picking at your post just wondering if you think he is in that league. I haven't seen him since 04 and he was an 8th grader, but I wouldn't put him up there with OJ.

He has had 2 winning seasons at SC. 2001-2002: 13-11 2003-2004: 19-10 I would get my facts straight before I started a thread like this. But that is just me. And no I don't think he should hang them up. Every team in the region was up and down this year. Can't blame him alone for the set backs.

I do understand where you are coming from, but I still feel like Flynn has done a good job at Ashland. Look at his records: 2000-2001: 22-10. 64th district champs. 16th region champs. 1-1 in State Tournament. 2001-2002: 25-6. AIT Champs. 64th district Champs. 16th region champs. (Beat Mayo, Walker, and Co) Lost first round of state to eventual state champion Lex. Catholic 2002-2003: 21-9. 64th distrcit champs. 16th regional runner-up (lost to Mayo, Walker, and Co) 2003-2004: 22-8. 64th district champs. 16th regional runner-up. 2004-2005: 17-14. 64 district runners-up. 1-1 in 16th regional tournament 2005-2006: 14-16. 64 district runners-up. 0-1 in 16th regional tournament He is 121-63 over the past 6 seasons. He made two tris to Rupp Arenea in that time. Went to the regional finals 2 other times. Has went to the regional tournament every year in that span. Has won the district 4 of those 6 years. Won 20 games or more 4 of those 6 years. I think everyone else in the state would consider that a pretty good run. His last 2 years have been less satisfying I know, but I still think Mike Flynn is the future of Ashland Basketball. That is just how I see it and like I said I am not a Tomcat fan so I am sure you may disagree, but that is ok because that is what this website is for.

I think JC is the better team, and if they play to their capablity then they will move on past BL. If Kidd is allowed to live on the offensive glass then BL will hang around and be in the game. In the end I think Rice will keep Kidd in check and JC will come out on top. JC by 12

A Great post Frances Bavier. I am not an Ashland Fan, in all honesty I do not care much for the Tomcats at all. But Mike Flynn is a very good coach in my eyes. His kids are always classy and very fundamental. They always play extremley hard and have never stepped on the floor not prepared. Flynn is a class act and is not the kind to make excuses. I am a Sheldon Clark graduate and was a senior on the 2004 team that topped Ashland in the secoind game of the year. After the game Flynn spoke with the radio announcers and said all the right things. He is a good basketball coach, but more importantley he is a great person and that is the kind of people that we need to coach our children.

I think Magoffin is playing well at the right time, but I don't think they are playing as well as the Tigers who have also hit their stride. Paintsville is the best team in the region when they play like they have been as of late. I'm not sure if anyone can beat the Tigers except for Paintsville themselves. Should be a good game with alot of emotion but in the end I see another Tiger victory and them playing Sheldon Clark for the 57th crown. Paintsville: 77 Magoffin Co: 58

Because one of the rewards of being the number 1 seed is getting more rest before playing your next game. The number 1 seed also ensures the so called easiest path to the regional tournament. That being said they get to play a team that played just the night before. Not sure if it is the best way to do it, but that is the reasoing behind it.

With or without Torrez SC is still the better team. Brandon May will be the best player on the floor. If the Cardinals come out and rebound the basketball then they will be able to overcome Magoffin. If they allow the Hornets to get on the offensive glass then it will turn into a long night for SC. SC will finish up the district race with a W and look forward to playing the loser of the JC - P'ville game. SC by 12

This is an easy question. There is/was a Paintsville parent that sits oin the stage at home games behind the opposing teams coaches and whispers sweet nothings in their ears. j/j The parent behind the bench of the opposing team is not a good situation any way you slice it. May not have been the worst parent, but was one of the worst situations. I don't think it should be allowed IMHO.

I have heard rumors that following the Belfry vs Pike County Central game that Matt Maynard was dismissed from the team for undisclosed reasons. I was wondering if there was any truth to this or if it is just a mis-understanding. If it is true this could knock Belfry from the ranks of one of the favorites for the regional crown to an outsider with only a shot.

It is 100% true. There has been a family emergency, and we all hope for the best, but Torres will not be there tonight. We don't know what will happen to Torres, but we all hope nothing but th best for him and his family. Even without Torres tho SC will still get the W. My prediction has changed tho instead if winning by 12 I up it to 12+. Playing on emotion and the thought of a friend can take you a long way.

All SC all night. The kittens have lost their swagger and their shooting is suspect this year. Despite being possibly the best shooting team in the region last year they have struggled for consitancy all year long. With the lack of emotion coming from this team I don't see them being able to play with a very physical and very emotional Sheldon Clark team. BMR will have to pull a rabbit out of his hat to turn this season around. There seems to be to many chief indians and not enough worker indians in P'ville. I'm going to say SC by 12........

I like the way Mayfield played, but I picked NCC in the contest so I will pick them now. (Actually I picked South Floyd in the contest, gotta pull for the 15th, so my judgment may be clouded)

This converstain begins and ends with Feds Creek in the 15th region. (They consolidated to form East Ridge) This gym had 3 rows of bleachers on the floor (one of which was the bench) and then fans had to climb a balcony to an upper level to watch games. The balcony extended over the playing floor so anytime someone spilt their beverages it seemed to be raining Cola on the floor. They also had poles supporting the balcony that were inbounds, they just had big pads wrapped around them. It was the worst gym I ever played in and gave Feds Creek a definate home court advantage. Even tho it was a bad gym, there was something impressive about it as well. When you walked in that gym you knew they didn't make em like that anymore.

I would have to say excitment overall in the 15th was pretty decent espically with South Floyd and Paintsville playing in the finals (those two teams bring a good size crowd). In my neck of the woods tho excitment was at an all time low and with the unexpectied early exit I doubt it will be much better next year.

And BL continues to disapoint. This is the most underachieving team losing to the most over achieving team. People better keep both eyes open when playing Magoffin.

Looks like SV has rebounded well after the disapointing loss to Phelps and so has P'ville after the SF loss.

I'm not sure if they are that good. I don't think either one could start for Sheldon Clark........................................LOL You can't hardley compare players like these. They are like Oranges and Apples. Seperate they are great and when you put them together you can entertain a crowd.
