How would you gauge the interest in both the Boys and Girls All-A tournaments in your region? Is it increasing, decreasing, or about the same as in past years?

If the same teams seem to be the dominant teams in your region year after year, does this matter? If different teams seem to make the semis or finals, does this matter?

 

What about students/school spirit? Is the All-A something students really look forward to? Does the school in your region cancel school if the team goes to Richmond? Does it matter if it is the Boys team or the Girls team?

 

What about the State All-A? Does your region seem to be increasing in the number of fans going to Richmond or decreasing or is it about the same?

The all A region is always "up" in the 14th. The semifinals at MC Napier's former gym, the Sherman Neace Athletic Center, was packed on Friday, as was the finals on Saturday.

In Region 1, the tournament is always well-attended for the semifinals and finals and the interest is good because 11 of the 17 schools (it was 12 before Heath outgrew it) in the region are in the tournament. There were probably somewhere between 1,500-2,000 people for the finals, even with only two participating schools because Mayfield and St. Mary met in both championship games.

The 14th is always up because of the amount of small schools. That number has dropped since last year with the creation of Letcher Central, but the tradition of the "All A" is established in the 14th, which is always a very competitive region.

I think there is alot of interest in the 14th. However I think that the enrollment numbers need to be looked at this year. When the tourney was started it was meant for small schools to have their own tournament. What has happened is that now over half of all schools in the state qualify to compete. I also think they should play all games at a neutral site . This would not be hard to do and would be fair to all teams involved....

They certainly should change the name. It is not an "All A" Tourney by any stretch. I know in the 10th Brossart usually always has a cake walk and in the 9th it is either St. Henry or New Cath. Unless Holy Cross won last night.

It is an All "A" tourney because all compete in it. Are you suggesting that private schools in Northern KY shouldn't be classified as "A"?

I personally think that the number of students to qualify should be whatever it took for about 25-30% of schools to qualify. This number would get the tourney back to its original meaning.

Make that 4 Brossarts, as in "in-a row". You've got to remember it wasn't always that way; and won't always be that way either. They didn't win their first All "A" region until 2001!! Their program is "up" right now, and the other small schools in the 10th are somewhat down, that's all. The Mustangs set their sights high, and built their program from being a "doormat"; to competing against the best programs in the area. To quote Willie Schlarman, if you don't like losing "Get Better"!!
