Anyone got a dead horse award for this turning into a "why don't they use the football cutoff" thread?

Yes, because it's the same thing over and over. People ask "why is a 2A school playing in the All A?" Others respond, "The All A doesn't use the football cutoff."

 

But the ones asking why schools classified as 2A in FB don't seem to want to accept the fact that the organizers of the All A are a complete and separate entity from the KHSAA. It's like banging your head against the wall to keep asking the same question over and over even after being told why it is the way it is.

 

Rather than beating the dead horse, if this is such a contentious issue, why don't these people just contact the All A organizers and demand they change their eligibility requirements w/re to enrollment? I'm sure Stan Steidel, the All A president, is in the phone book in Northern Kentucky and can be reached fairly easily.

I also get a little exasperated each time someone new brings up the same old stuff because it always ends up with the same points on each side.

 

But, my point is that when someone, like my very good friend Westsider, says that one has nothing to do with the other, I feel the need to remind people that the KSHAA did in fact use the KHSAA numbers for Class A when the tournament went statewide in 1990

True, but they had to start somewhere. Would it have been better if they had just pulled some arbitrary number out of the air?

 

I guess the biggest problems are A) the misconception that the KHSAA has some control over the operation of the tournament and B) the misconception that the tournament should adjust their cutoff each time the KHSAA does for football.

Maybe they should change the name to the "Small School Classic" to avoid comparisons to football classification.

It would avoid the confusion/comparisons were they to switch, but I think at this point they've already well established the brand name.
