I have no interest in the "All A" and I love High School BB. There is only one Champion in Kentucky High School Basketball that is the team that wins the Sweet Sixteen,JMO. I graduated from an All A School (Bracken Co.)and to win the Championship doesn't mean a hill of beans to me. The only people who remember it down the road are the players and their families.

 

I'm guessing you won't be in Richmond this week??

Here are the enrollment numbers from the Kentucky School Directory. I think one of these have to be incorrect (Moore) but it was the only school with that name.

 

Lexington Christian - 1,433 grades K-12

University Heights - 309 grades Pre-school - 12

Moore (this can not be correct) 1624 9-12

I would say for the most part these are "bigger" A schools. Wow University Heights is small. How are they always so good!! Do not see a whole lot of schools that are small. More like medium.

The obvious question ... how is Moore in the tournament? I'm not sure, but my guess it has something to do with the following:

 

Last year, Moore had a big freshman class of 258 kids. Like a lot of big-city schools, Moore seems to have a high dropout rate among underclassmen. Not counting the freshmen and special education students, Moore had 397 kids in the upper three grades.

Don't get me wrong. I am happy for the kids that get to play in the All A. I just don't get excited about it myself.

They played Owsley in the 1990 All A championship with several exchange students. How exactly do they get these types of players?? Is this the obvious answer or does anyone have any insight??

The All A seems to be a much bigger deal in Eastern and Northern Kentucky. There isn't much excitement in Western Kentucky. That could be because of UHA's dominance.

Lee County fans have already bought over 700 tickets for the game tomorrow. That pretty much tells the story about inyerest in 14th region.

Hopefully the cats will make a showing for lee, region & district since this is there first regional title in basketball since 1973 or 74 & 1968 or 69 (cant remember??) So there must be lots of excitement in bobcat country!!

When we played them in 1990, their entire front court was from England and Spain.

Moose Moore played on that team if my memory serves me right (great player)?? I remember that team & it was exciting for the 14th. Schools like University heights & others get an advantage somehow????????

All "A" doesn't generate a lot of excitement in the 11th Region. There are too many teams that have a legitimate chance to win it all at Rupp. But I say anytime kids have the chance to compete on a level playing field on a state wide basis, it is a good thing. What I am seeing is the same thing in this tournament as with the rest of high school sports. There are some teams who have the luxury to hand pick a less than geographical team.

I agree Whodey!! Everyone in the 10th is playing for second. With Brossart in it.

BGGreen you are right they did not win their first til 2001, but they have won 5 of the last 6. When you have the resources they have they sould be winning at that clip. I'm not putting them down at all. I hope they represent the 10th well at Richmond. But right now it's not much fun being a small school in the 10th when you have the Big Green Machine mowing every one down by 30 plus points.

Were you making the same complaint in 1990 that you are now? The All A Classic has never changed its enrollment cutoffs since going statewide.

 

Funny that schools that size were universally considered "Class A" then but not now in the eyes of some.
