This game will be played tonight ( Friday ) at Union Co.

Daviess at Union Co. cancelled. Not sure of make up date, if any.

The sucess of OC will be determined by the QB ( Walker ). If he can throw the ball, to capable receivers, which has been a mainstay with OC since the Lawson years, then Edge will again have a contender. Walkers arm/shoulder problems have to be a thing of the past.

What would you suggest as a better check and balances system? Who do you think should assign the games?

I really do not want to do some bashing on fans vs. officials, coaches vs. officials, officials vs. assigning secs. so i will try and keep this above the line. There are, without a doubt, some officials who ,by and large, are good and even great officials. I do not believe there is a such thing as a bad of poor official. Most schools pay between 40-75 dollars for all games depending on middle school to varsity level. Would that get better officials paying more? No. Would a 3 man crew at every game more called more productive. Yes, but at additional cost that most budgets do not allow. Bear in mind officials have to call more than black and white on a test or in a book. A 10 year official is, of course, going to see things from a judgement standpoint different from a 2-3 year guy. A game called by 2-3 officials who have less than 5 years experience is going to be a challenge, for them as well as the teams involved. Realize that those guys even with that little experience has already been to more clinics, attended rules seminars/updates, read more on the rules and tested out and cleared by the KHSAA more than anyone else in the gym that night. Will they miss a call? Sure. They will learn from it. Do they have a big head? Sometimes, but they have to because of the nature of what they are doing. They have to control players.coaches fans security and so on. Coaches coach, players play, fans will they do what they do. It is easy to say a person could do a better job, but without really doing it, with all due respect, No you can't. Why? because you would be just another official.

I also know of some coaches that, after getting out of coaching for whatever reason, get into officiating and quickly understand they are way over their heads when it comes to calling games. They quickly understand it is easier to coach then "work or whine" the officials and they last maybe 2 years at most and give it up.

No question the soph. group they have is IMO the strength of that team, and also the future. I expect next year and following year Boone will be a force STATEWIDE in basketball. They will be even more fun to watch.:thumb:

Daviess played several players under the weather also, so could of, should of would of is too unknown. That got beat with 5 on 5.

Did the Johnston kid from Grayson make all tourney or do you know?

Wrong, you quit and you may feel better about, but your kids will bear the brunt of your actions. That is unless "the apple don't fall far" .....

Several players from Daviess Co. was playing pretty ill also. I am surprised they got to play much at all. It woulld have been nice to see DC team at full strength also.

They have 3 soph. on the team, but start sometimes only 1. They do play 3-4juniors quite a bit. and a couple of seniors play quite a bit as well.

If this needs to be in a seperate thread from this thread, please put in where it belongs. I just know it is part of this tourney, but I posted before reading the Mods advice. Sorry:confused:

I understand that Daviess Co. beat Boone tonight 77-73. Was Boone ranked in the state? Is this a upset. Daviess is good I have seen them a few times and what is scary about is they play alot of underclassmen

I think Boone has a few really good sophmores. Is this right? I have heard they do, but was not sure.

I agree with all assesments that the play should have been stopped if the injured (?) player was in danger. The play should have continued on A's control of the ball until the play was complete i.e. missed/made shot or change of hands via turnover/rebound. When procession change, sure blow the whistle and check on the kids injury. The player was not in danger as he was under the opposite end of the court trying to get up when the whistle killed the play. The injured player and 3 of his other team members were not even past mid court when the whistle sounded. B only had one player back thus the 3 on 1. Protect the player YES, but not needed here. Just my opinion, but must say never seen it before.

So is it a judgement call as to the validity of "injured"? How does Art.2(a) defined injured?. I can understand suspend play to protect, but there was no need to protect. If the ball had been turned over on the 3 on 1 or if A would have scored, I could see stopping play then, but it appeared the whistle stopped the play long enough for the kid to then get down along with the rest of team to set on half court defense.

Daviess outscored Grove 31-16 in 2nd half after Daviess lead by 13 at half time. A bad 1st and 4th quarter for Silver Grove (only 8 points total). Final score Daviess 65 Silver Grove 36

Wanting to know if seasoned official can give me a ruling in the following case: Team A has a fast break going ( 3 on 1 ) after a missed shot by B. Player from B falls down like he had a cramp. This player is behind the trailing official in back court when the front official sees B player is down. Official blows whistle killing the fast break. Cramp player gets up and runs to the front court and then sets up on defense (along with his other 3 team members) thus making it full strength defense 5 on 5. Team A then takes the ball out of bounds facing 5 on 5. Should the official have let the play continue until next procession by B? If no, should the B cramp player have had to come out of the game for one play even if the coach did not come on the floor to check on him After all the play was dead and he had a injured player that the official stopped play for. Any insight would be great.

He was a MAN against Owensboro Catholic in the Border Bowl and his brother was an outstanding receiver also. Man I wish the Border Bowl was this weekend so the whole season was in front of us again!!!!

With reference to the whistle, the official explanation given to both coaches was that, in fact none of the 5 officials blew the whistle. They asserted that on the play a whistle was blown from the stands or I should say by a non-official.

I was aware that the base, due to size, covers both states however I was needing to clarify that the school itself, while regulated by Kentucky for all purposes (including football) was located on the Tenn. side of the base. This I believe makes me the winner of the dinner. Thanks for the quick answer.

Some really successful programs have teams that after four years play what is equal to another whole season and thats is great IMO. It gives other teams the chance to continue on and play games the can be 1/2 a season more and give kids a chance to keep playing the game they love.:thumb:

I was told once that Fort Campbell, while technically in Kentucky, has the high school geographically, as being in Tenn. Now I realize that some posters may take exception to this as being a dig, but I have a expensive dinner riding on this as I say that they are. Please, only informed Fort Campbell posters reply. Daviess Co. jumped out to a big lead, but midway in the first half Breck. staged a pretty good comeback to cut it to 4-6 points. Daviess used some strong defense with a lot of trapping and pressing to force some turnovers and regained the momentum, before pulling away from a very scrappy Breckenridge team, who never gave up. Daviess had some good ball movement and was quick on defense, but gave up some points in the paint.
