IMO A all star team from the state of Kentucky would easily beat a Hoover team from this year or the last few years. I can not see them ever having 11 players being better than 11 "all stars ' from too many states at all.

Hunter Cannon was the qb that relieved Stanley. Stanley had been bothered by a sore ankle and Carlberg started Stanley, but bad ankle made him not a big factor, but no qb switch for good. Good back up to have !!!!

Back up QB played like a senior. Looked very sharp IMO

Center to QB/Punter handling needs to be addressed. Three games down and still some mishandling of the ball.

With the kicker Owensboro has 3 field goals is a possibility as he has technique, distance and form. I predict good things in the next 4 years for him.

Wimsatts last year (2004) ? they sure did but after that they tried to but QB questions kept them from really having much success with it so it seemed they wavered back and forth on the mind set.

The spread offense with a great deal of passing with short screens, skinny post patterns, and crossing patterns remind me off many of the things OC has done in the past and they even did it when Franklin was helping them. Just my opinion, but DC even lines up many offenses sets similar to OC from the years gone past. Now I do not know too many teams that employ 100% of Franklin, but Daviess looks on the surface, to be close as any team I have saw.

Barnes use a great deal of wing T in the backfield and with the exception of when Wimsatt QB'd, they did not throw a whole lot.

I agree with you pick, but Daviess Co. DB's are a concern, but good defense rest of the way. Offense is explosive as they are running a variation of the Franklin system, which you can do with the receivers they have, and more important the QB they have.

Owensboro has some running issues at times. If Johnston is able to play it will help both sides of the ball. If it comes down to defense the edge to Owensboro. Owensboro 21-14.

That is so such a feat to have anymore. Owensboro Senior had the same thing last year and invited every player that ever wore a jersey for them back to the game. They had them all on the field at the same time. They also had a player who was the team captain ( i believe ) on the first team to play at Rash Stadium, and he flipped the coin ( with a little help ). They played John Hardin, they had like all kinds of pre game activities, post game etc. He was quite a show!...Best wishes Mayfield on your long and storied and of course very sucessfull history.

Daviess Co. 2-0. We will see just how good this week against Henderson Co. always a tough game even if Henderson is 0-2

Catholic, for the most part, starts slow most years. I do believe they could be barely over .500 at regular seasons end. Having said that, alot depends on the running game. It those guys can mature and take some stress off the passing game, then they could find themselves with another regional championship.

Happened to see Clevenger on T.V. on the "hot seat" portion of the sports. He says he is a players coach and yes the late start hurt them. He was very humble and said he does not know enough about Kenwood to comment, but he had enought things to fix with his own team to be too concerned with Kenwood. I predict he will make some great things happen at Henderson in due time.

Kicker from Owensboro may be unknown for now, but give him some time/chances and he will be known. His name is Trey Cain and from what I have heard and seen, could be one of the top kickers in the state by his Junior/Senior year if not before.

The Border Bowl continues tonight with Owensboro facing Evansville Memorial and then Daviess Co. playing Evansville Bosse. Owensboro looks to be a force in Western Kentucky this year and Daviess looks to also be vastly improved. .

I have not heard who is looking at him, but his coach believes he could be the best player in all of Indiana. He broke a 75 yard run and Catholic is noted for team speed, but could not even catch him. Someone commented he reminded them of former Mr. Football Travis Atwell.

Apollo jumped all over Evansville Harrison 47-13 as Richie Stanley throws for 150 yds and 2 td's and runs for for 3 td's. Nate Jackson caught 2 of the 3 td's. Apollo scored early and led 34-0 at half. Soph Sederick Mucker looked good at rb with 83 yds on 9 carries. Second game had Evansville Reitz beating Catholic 40-6 as Reitz has a very solid team. Paul McIntosh the qb for Reitz was a manchild as he accounted for 215 of the 325 total yards of offense for Reitz. QB John Powers and Bryan Mcgaw had good games for Catholic.

In less than 36 hours a new season begins for 200 plus high schools here in Kentucky. Seniors, it is your last season in high school football and for many the last time you will ever suit up for the game you love. Men, you have given us fans many thrills and some chills as well, but nevertheless have reminded us of what is good about the youth of this state. Be proud to wear that uniform for the last year of high school. Be also thankful for all the support you have received from all the coaches you ever had, the staff at your high schools, the fans from Ashland to Paducah and all the points in between. I would dare to venture that each of you will at some point in your life will look back on your football playing days and remember great times and lessons learned that you will pass on to someone else either as a parent, a mentor or even a coach yourself. Also, be thankful for your parents/caregivers, the countless hours of driving to and from practice, making sure you have what you need to be all you can be as a player and the encouragement that was not maybe welcomed at the time but was really needed. Surprised to see Hoover Alabama not metioned anywhere, they must have loss quite a few players or the competition has just closed the gap some. I am sure they are ranked very high within the state.

Not to add to any confusion, but the scheduled radio broadcast has the following: Evansville Mater Dei at Catholic 08/24 Steele Stadium 8:00, then on 08/25 Evansville Reitz Memorial at Owensboro - Rash Stadium 5:00. In addition to those games on 08/24 Evansville Harrison plays Apollo at 5:00 at Steele Stadium and Evansville Bosse plays Daviess County at 7:30 at Rash Stadium. Of course Rash Stadium is located at Owensboro High and Steele is located on the KWC campus.
