  1. Financial hardships over the last 3-5 years. Hotel went into receivership via court order after investment company shored up hotel and was then left holding the bag. No buyer came forward. Investment company had no interest in running hotel. Can not meet payroll so they are closing Sunday unless a buyer steps in. I hate that for all the teams/family members etc because it gives the city a big black eye. It is a mess.
  2. Many Many problems with the hotel....It is a disgrace what has happened there and the"quest" are paying the price.
  3. Sorry about the edit...I was in a big big hurry...Glad to see you guys on top of things!!!!! Make us look a little smarter than we are..Thanks again
  4. I too am in Owensboro. In fact I live here!! Hope you are not staying at the Executive Inn. They maybe closing while you are still there!!! PM me if you need any information or if I can help you with anything here in Owensboro
  5. Well I may be making it to see Apollo now that they are in. Any others?
  6. With all due respect and what limited knowledge I have of Heath, they were just outmanned in all facets of the two games. Is Apollo that good? I suspect they are, based on the times I saw them this season because this third region is full of good baseball regardless who who comes out of it. Apollo will have their hands full in Lexington, but know this: the team(s) they will be facing will also have a handfull with the Eagles.
  7. Webb never looked comfortable in this game. Apollo was hitting really good and was playing smart on the bases. Heath had some opportunities several times, but good defense (run downs) by Apollo ended those.
  8. Its all good. Unless you are from Owensboro and played or followed basketball in the past, it would be difficult to understand the impact a guy like Rod Drake has especially with the younger players he has worked with and who gone on to play for someone other than Drake. I do agree with your statement about coach turnover when needed, however way too much for this school and its tradition.
  9. Not sure what knock you are making reference to. No question Breeden took them to state and was a fine coach we lost as well. You could say the same for Stinnett before him who also took them to state. What I am saying is Drake will not be a coach that will be leaving anytime soon.
  10. Rod Drake, former player and assisiant coach at Owensboro has been named new coach at Owensboro High School. This man has paid his dues and will bring some tradition back to Owensboro. An All American while playing for Kentucky Weselyan in the early 80's, Coach Drake will bring much needed stability to a program rich in tradition, but 3 coaches in the last 5 years have some question the program. A classy gentleman, on and off the coach, with a work ethic and basketball IQ that can match any new coach. Having play against a few times ( yeah he pretty much dominated ), I can tell I am glad to see him back to head the red and black. Congrats to Coach Rod Drake.:dancingpa
  11. Wondering who the next up and coming "stud" is for the Cards? Maybe Ijames in due time. Thoughts?
  12. I understand Coach Turley has no interest in teaching to perhaps just coach instead.
  13. Brock Moorman from Owensboro signed with D1 North Carolina A&T. Carolina is coached by Jerry Eaves (Louisville). Great showing at the state tournment opened some eyes to some scouts. I have said it before, somebody will get a steal with this one, I think the best basketball may still be in his future as he has not peaked yet. Good Luck Brock.
  14. It is common, although you never feel them, the scale picks them up. I understand it is a good thing to have them like this every few years to relieve the pressure on the fault lines and prolong the "big one"
  15. some news reports are hearing from people who have lived out west and, although it happens much more out there, they say this was much longer than they are use to. :dancingpa
  16. I hope that Moorman from Owensboro opened some eyes to some scouts at the state. I have said it before and I will say it again: Someone is going to get a steal with this guy.
  17. I do not know what they have coming back, but I would think Hood would be one of the early frontrunners for Mr. B. He is quite the SHOW from what I saw.
  18. I believe in the 3rd region that Daviess Co. should be one of the favorites. They lost 2 players and have a ton of experience coming back. The 3rd region is always tough within the region and any team that comes out of the region will represent it well. IMO
  19. Congrats to Trigg Co. If anyone has never seen the football team, and I am only talking from my experience, those guys are hugh. I have seen them play Owensboro Catholic several time ( all playoffs for the most part ) and I was always stunned by the size of those guys. I can only assume many of those lifters play football, but nonetheless Catholic often won those games, but I can assure you Catholic, even with some pretty big guys themselves, felt it all thoughout the game and the next day. Congrats again to the powerlifting champs from Trigg.:ylsuper: BTW way the Adams kid from a few years ago should go to Hollywood and be a bodyguard to the stars. One look at him and and your life would flash before your eyes.
  20. Rest In peace young man. You fought the good fight. To the Apollo family: I know Greg was aware of your many visits and prayers. The all night vigils by the Apollo football team shows the unity of these young men and the strength needed by all the relatives Greg.
  21. I think Edmonson County won it all in '76, but I may be wrong
  22. Was Charley Broughton on that team? He is the head coach at Daviess Co.
  23. '78 Apollo 35-0 going in. Won L.I.T. ( at the time biggest tournment around ), beat state champions in L.I.T finals. Would have been great to see them play Holmes that year.
  24. They were on the moped, however little else is known by me The driver that hit them said all of a sudden there was a loud bang and in his rear view mirror he say a moped on fire. The road is traveled a lot.
