  1. I don't know what the final score was, I quit counting after St. X scored 3 TDs, 1 FG, and 1 safety to zero points for OCHS. OCHS has some good skill players to build around in the QB, RB, and WR and it looks like the numbers were up on the sideline compared to past years. It looks like OCHS could have an exciting offense in the future. St. X was its' predictable self, a half dozen running plays mixed in with several passing plays. It usually takes a few games before St. X spices up its' offense. I appreceate the fact that coach Oldham scheduled ST. X and even played on the game field after all of the rain we had this week. Hopefully this scrimmage will pay off for both teams in the future.
  2. I was just paying my respects.
  3. I believe that the TD pass was thrown by Zoeller who also had several nice runs. Scott County has several very good players and their defense really swarmed to the ball and caused St. X fits at times. The Scott County kicker really put on a show during the special teams portion of the scrimmage. All of his kickoffs went into the endzone and his punts turnerd over perfectly and were extremely high and long. I would think he'll get plenty of looks from college scouts if he continues to kick like that. Unfortunately, I did see 1 SC player with a bad "wheel" in a boot after the game, I hope it was nothing serious. There were several ice packs being used on the St. X sideline but I think everyone will be fine for next week. On another note, I heard St. X's first opponent, Bowling Green had some injuries during their scrimmage with Apollo.
  4. I don't know how successful this will be, but here is a shot of the new baseball field from left center towards home plate. You can see the press box, dugout and lighting poles already up. The warning track is the brown artifical turf mentioned previously.
  5. I have to feel that BG will be slightly favored in this one for several reasons. As previosly noted by Oxnard, St. X has just lost too many starters from last year's team. It is possible that as many as 10 underclassmen will be playing key roles on this years team which is highly unusual for St. X. It's the first game of the year, and everyone knows that St. X introduces its' offensive and defensive schemes slowly and will not have its' full complement of weapons ready to use in August. Now add to this the strength of BG's team, 4 of the top 26 players in the state, along with a full complement of returning starters and I see BG being favored. No matter what the outcome is, it will be a great test for both teams and both will benefit from it later in the year.
  6. It is by invitation only, but a High School coach can contact Scout via their web site and request that a certain player be invited. I do not know what qualifications Scout uses to determine who gets invited and who doesn't. BTW, I am not promoting Scout or any other combine/recruiting service, but I do think they provide a good opportunity for players to be seen by college coaches who other wise might be overlooked. If possible, I would like to spend some time at both combines to see some of the upcoming players in action before the season starts.
  7. Some things never change:
  8. This combine has traditionally been held at Ballard, I don't know why the change this year.
  9. Just a reminder, the greater Louisville football coaches will be hosting their annual high school football combine this coming Monday afternoon the 8th, at 4:30 in the old Cardinal Stadium at the Fairgrounds. This combine is for upcoming Seniors only. Players should see their High School coach for details. Also, scout.com, an internet based college recruiting magazine will be holding a combine in Louisville on Saturday the 20th. Players from KY, IN, OH, TN will be attending this combine. You can go to scout.com for more info.
  10. Vic is very capable of putting up over 2,000 yards next season, but it depends on several factors: 1. How many games St. X plays next year. 2. How many snaps he gets to take, hopefully he is injury free this year. 3. Whether Coach Glaser lets him. Coach Glaser is good about sharing the weath and individual records don't rank high with him. Vic has been working hard in the weight room and doing a lot of extra training as well, I think he will have a great year.
  11. It shouldn't take Coach Brown long to incorporate the Fire's playbook into the St. X offense, they can't have more than a half dozen running plays. I had to say it before someone else did.
  12. I heard Coach Brown brought a copy of the Louisville Fire playbook with him and St. X is working on it as we speak.
  13. Right now Coach Harris is slated to fill Coach Bruner's position in the Health and PE department.
  14. Coach Harris is from Athens AL. He played football for John L Smith at UL.
  15. Coach Glaser introduced Rashad Harris to the team this week as the new DE coach. Coach Harris will replace Coach Bruner who is now the head coach at Nelson County. Coach Harris spent the last 2 years as a graduate assistant coach at Michigan State. He played 2 years of NFL Europe football for Barcelona after graduating from UL in 2001.
  16. In my opinion, Male is the biggest question mark in the district. Oxnard is correct in that the upcoming senior class has some good talent and experience, but QB still remains a big question mark. The upcoming junior and sophomore classes haven't been as talented up to this point, but they do have a few individuals who have a chance to make a name for themselves this year. Watch out for Dexter Heyman and Coach Green's son if he is healthy. It will be interesting to see how Male fairs during the 7 on 7 games this summer and if a true QB emerges. That being said, I would rate St. X slightly ahead of Male at this time, but I reserve the right to change my ranking after 7 on 7. PRP will be a close third in the district and could win it all if Male and St. X stumble in the least bit and they keep their players on the field. Manual will be down after loosing one of their best senior classes in years, and Butler should be on the rise and just a few years away from being a contender. Butler should finish fourth while Manual regroups. Iroquois will be improved but not enough.
  17. Great looking weight room Coach, I especially like the plyo boxes. I wish St. X would put a little more emphasis on plyo to help players improve their quickness and power.
  18. If I remember correctly, when I played high school ball many years ago, you could complete the sport you were participating in when you turned 19 but play no further sports. I remember a player who turned 19 in January, finished the basketball season, but could not play baseball. That seemed fairly reasonable at the time.
  19. I understand that the St. X baseball team will be playing its' home games at Bellarmine University while the new complex is under construction. I haven't been to a game there in a few years, but I remember Bellarmine being a great place to play baseball.
  20. You can go to the St. X website (http://www.saintx.com) and click on the "Project X" site and get more information and drawings regarding the new complex.
  21. I am sure there are plenty of options for baseball, track, etc. this year, I'm just not sure what St. X will do. This is a good problem for St. X to have. Tiger fans have been striving for an on campus athletic complex for many years and it looks like it will come true in the very near future. When it is completed it will be one of the best athletic complexes in the area.
  22. As far as determining what athletic classification you belong in you are correct. But when it comes to comparing attendance figures, a student is a student, no matter what sex you are.
  23. Back in the 50’s and 60’s it was Flaget without a doubt, followed by Male and Manual. Trinity became the number one rival in the early to mid 70’s and this has developed into the number one High School football game in the country according to many “experts”. I think many of the “more seasoned” St. X Alumni still have very strong feelings towards the Male and Manual games, but it just doesn’t have the same drawing power as the Trinity game.
  24. You have to be careful when “looking” at crowd size at Manual stadium as it is the largest High School stadium in Jefferson County and it can be deceiving. I am sure our Manual friends can find out the exact number, but I have been told the home side can hold close to 4,000 fans. I would be willing to bet that they are another 1,000 students (male and female) on the track, under the stands, or in the end zone during a typical St. X game. I was at the St. X vs. Highlands’s game and I was shocked at how few Highland’s fans showed up. Several hundred at best, and I heard most of them came on one bus. By the way, I believe Henderson County is the largest school in the state. St. X probably has the most football players though.
