Who's on upset alert this week?
I always think back to 1997 when a thread like this pops up. Class AA District 5 standings Boyle County 10-0 (6-0) Danville 9-1 (5-1) Bourbon County 7-3 (4-2) Lexington Catholic 7-3 (3-3) The district swept round 1 with an average score of 39-10 across the 4 games, including 4 seed Lex Cath knocking off 1 seed Rockcastle Co 28-7. Lex Cath then beat Danville (2) and Dudley Hilton's Bourbon shut-out district champ and unbeaten Boyle (1) 24-0 in round 2, setting up a (3) vs (4) regional final. Bourbon shut-out Lex Cath 20-0 that week, and went on to shut-out another 1 seed in (previously unbeaten 13-0) Lawrence County in the semi's for its 3rd straight playoff shut-out and a trip to the finals where they beat another (1) seed in Owensboro Catholic to win it all. One of the best playoff runs I've ever seen.

Franklin County 1st round bye
I may have missed it, but don't see a thread topic explaining what happened in 4A district 3, a 6 team district, that it doesn't have 4 teams in the playoffs. I noticed this morning that Franklin County apparently has a 1st round bye. I know Valley had some forfeits earlier in the season due to playing an ineligible player, but it's a 6 team district. Why isn't their a 4th playoff team this year?

Chuck Smith doesn't do push ups, he pushes the earth down ... Chuck Smith can also win a game of connect 4 in 3 moves- Male vs. Manual: The Old Rivalry
Wonderful topic and thread. Thank you for a very interesting read!- Demauriah Brown (Boyle RB) stats
He doesn't show up in the top 50 of the states rushing leaders because running clocks and a slew of other weapons on the team, but Demauriah Brown is quietly putting up some eye popping numbers this season, but especially over the past 5 games. On the year, through 9 games, he has 70 carries for 856 yards and 11 TD. That's 12.23 ypc on the season and a TD for roughly every 6 times he touches the ball. Over that last 5 games the numbers get video game like. 25 total carries for 539 yards and 8 TDs. that's 21.56 ypc and a TD for roughly every 3 rushing attempts Some of his game lines have looked like this 2 carries, 110 yds, 2 TDs 4 carries 124 yds, 2 TDs 4 carries 90 yds, 2 TDs Would love to see the numbers he could put up if he were getting to carry the ball more than he is.- Boyle County at Wayne County Predictions/Updates
Boyle 55 Wayne 0 Final- Boyle County at Wayne County Predictions/Updates
Wayne received the opening kickoff, and by the time 22 seconds had elapsed in the game, Tavi had a TD run called back due to a holding call and had a TD catch that stood. Boyle led 7-0 with 11:38 left in the 1st qtr. That pretty much sums it up. 35-0 halftime.- Boyle County at Wayne County Predictions/Updates
Boyle 35-0. 4:21 left in the 2nd qtr- Boyle County at Wayne County Predictions/Updates
Boyle 21 Wayne 0 7:30 left in the 1st qtr.- Ryle at Simon Kenton Predictions/Updates
Too big of a sample size to think this will be anything but Ryle by a bunch. 36-0 Boyle. I've lost track of the time, but somewhere in the mid 3rd.- Who was the best Yeast at old Harrodsburg HS?
After Craig, Nicky Yeast was my favorite. Never saw him play for the Pioneers but watched every EKU home game in person during the '81 & '82 seasons. I bought a Tampa Bay Bandits hat after they drafted him.- 6A RPI Rankings - 2024
Same system that has another team with a 163.4% winning % 4 games into the season. Same system that counts games against Cincinnati St X, Center Grove IN, and St Edward OH as lesser opponents than the current #20 Class A school in Kentucky.- 6A RPI Rankings - 2024
When winning 4 games against this schedule gets a 6A school the #2 rating in the system that actually determines the playoff seedings, then something must be done! According to the very RPI rating system that vaulted Barren to the #2 spot in 6A, the teams they beat are #'s 16 & 18 four classes below, #25 three classes below & #10 two classes below. That math just ain't mathing.- Boyle County path to a National Championship
Both St Edward and Boyle lost votes as a result of that game. Boyle went from unanimous #1 in the Courier Journal 4A media poll last week to receiving 15 of the 16 1st place votes this week (Tilghman picked up a 1st place vote this week.)- Boyle County path to a National Championship
I 100% agree that national championship talk is not in order for Boyle, or any Kentucky power that doesn't go out of its way to schedule a true national non-district schedule on a week after week basis. The sport has changed even since Trinity's magical 2011 season. The elite of the elite now are pure football factories (IMG, Gorman, Mater Dei, etc) that attract top talent from across the nation to transfer in on a yearly basis and they are scheduling a 10 week slate of national level top 25, 50 & 100 games. Every team on Mater Dei's schedule is a top 250 team and ½ are top 25. They've only played 2 games this year and have already beaten two top 10 opponents before Sept. 8. They have another top 10 opponent and 2 more top 25 upcoming. Big school Ohio, Texas and Florida teams run a strength of resume padding gauntlet in the playoffs that simply cannot be replicated here. In today's reality, Highlands '09 schedule you said to check would no better help any team nationally than the schedule Boyle has this year. After that 9-3 St. X squad, Ryle was the next best team on the Highlands schedule that year.- Montavin Quisenberry is a nominee for Sports Illustrated HS Athlete of the week.
And he's running away with it. Currently has 780 votes which is 96% of the vote. https://poll.fm/14332572/embed- BluegrassPreps.com Class 6A Football Rankings 9/9
It's been 20 years now, but I was around and was involved in coming up with the 1st ever BGP rankings. And I can only assume the process is still the same. BGP rankings were the college football playoff committee before the playoff committee was even a pipe dream. It's a holistic big picture look that doesn't automatically rank a team based upon record alone, a single win or a single loss. Rather it takes into account, game flow, game control, strength of opponent, where was the game played, and a slew of other things that really make up the big picture. A cursory glance at Ryle and SK year to date tells me SK has played 3 games. It's given up 35, 40 & 42 points in those games. None of the 3 opponents has a winning record. It has given up more points than it has scored through 3 games. It lost by 39 points to the best team it's played. That loss came to a team that also played Ryle. Ryle won that game by 16 points. Ryle's has played a tougher schedule with it's one loss coming on the road at 5A #2 Cooper and it was a single score game. Those things matter when trying to determine where a team falls in relation to the other schools in the rankings, or whether it rises, falls, or stays put in the rankings. If the #1 team in 2A goes on the road to Male and loses in OT, does that mean the must fall below the previously ranked #2 who played and beat a winless 1A school? The way old school polls work, yes that how it would be. But the BGP poll doesn't operate that way, and that's why it's the best representation of teams that we have in this state. Just my two cents.- Boyle jumps to #34 in Calpreps rankings
- Boyle County 38 St. Edward (OH) 21
Offensive masterclass. Anyone who knows football would've predicted that St. Ed would start to wear Boyle down in the 2nd half. It was the exact opposite. Boyle just flat took over the game.- Some national recognition for Frederick Douglass
Maxpreps released its Top 25 new HS football programs today. To qualify a school had to have started it's program within the last 10 years. Coming in at #5 nationally, the Broncos of Frederick Douglass. - Frederick Douglass at Boyle County Predictions/Updates
