I know John Henson from the Harlan newspaper does the 13th, 14th and, I think, the 15th. I know that he does, personally, try to contact all of the coaches during the summer to get their votes on top players and teams.

Has Matt Day gotten much playing time at this point?

Very proud of Matt Day. He really represented Buckhorn and the 14 th region very well.

I agree on Townsend. What I don't like about the Mr. Basketball is that I think, sometimes, it puts too much emphasis on the State tournament. I think that it will hurt, both, Mekale McKay and Matt Day in the voting even though both players had tremendous years and the only negative for both of them is that they didn't play in the state tournament. In terms of being out there to be seen, Buckhorn has played multiple games in the Lexington and Louisville area every season and in the summers, as well and have fared very well, most of the time with Matt playing well at every turn. I hate to see him punished because he chose to stay and try to win it at Buckhorn instead of giving in and transferring to one of the many schools that approached him during his high school career. I think that is one of the reason so many coaches have voted for him because they respect his loyalty to his school.

I think you are right, to a degree. Just look at the runner up in the 14th who was Sawyer Denniston, a great player from Wolfe Co., but I don't think he had as good a year as Paige did. I think if you take away all the transfer drama, Day would be the only player in competition with Paige and a valid argument could be made either way. But to say that Paige isn't even the runner up does give the impression of some biased voting. I think that is the direct result of all the transferring and recruiting that goes on in the 14th and I think alot of coaches are fed up with it and this is their way of voicing their dissaproval. I, also, think alot of them know that Piage is going to be invited to the KY all star tryouts anyway.

I don't think it is a question of who is the better player. I think it is a question of who had the better season and I think that you can definitely say that Matt Day had the better season. Look at their stats and look at the season that their teams had. With that said, I do hope that Paige gets an invite to the Ky. All Star tryouts because he is one of the best players in the state and would definitely make the team better.

I second that motion. Jordan was a great player at Somerset and has been an assistant to Coach Thacker, who, whether people want to admit it or not, had a pretty good amount of success in the Briar Patch. A young, energetic coach who is familiar with the school and community could give this program a good boost.

That is true. I guess I just favor kids that have played in state their whole high school career( especially if they have stayed at the same Ky. school ) even if they only played one varsity season. Personally, I would rather see a home grown kid win it over an out of state transfer especially if that transfer only played the one season in Ky. At least Behanen has been here for two years. He definitely has the resume.

Personally, I feel like there should be some sort of requirement for Mr. Basketball in relation to length of time that the player has, actually, played in Ky. Transfering in this state is completly out of hand and I think it would send a positive message for that award to go to a kid who has played the bulk of his high school career in this state. Hickey, Abell, or Timmy Knipp who should be in the running for this award if the voters have considered his entire career and not just one season. I am sure there are other worthy players, but those are the 3 off of the top of my head.

Congratulations to Timmy. He is a great player and a great kid. It is great to see a kid get rewarded for sticking with his team when so many other schools came calling in an effort to get him to leave.

I would add Matt Day from Buckhorn. He is 6'7. 25 ppg and almost 13 rpg for the season.

Final from the Wierwille Classic at Berea College this morning. Matt Day paced the Wildcats with 18 pts. and 18 rebounds.

Injuries slowed them down last year, especially the injury to Hooker. They should be solid on both ends and I would look for this to be one of the better Clay County teams in a while.

I would say Coach Booher is the guy for the job if he is a candidate. Not knocking the other coaches, but does anyone else have 3 state championships (2 - All A and the big one) in the past two seasons or in their career for that matter?

Is it in Hazard or is it at Lee's College in Jackson?

Wasn't he there for over 30 years, though? He was there for some pretty rough years and not just the glory days of the past few seasons. I think Coach Mays earned the right to go out on top.

"The Barn" at Buckhorn. No heating except for a couple of blowers sitting just off of the floor, dead spots from endline to endline, no heat in the guest locker room and the seating capacity of a port-a-pottie among other amenities. Great times.

You would think that, at some point, he may be the coach on the other end of the thrashing, but I guarantee you that this coach is the type of person that will quit, as soon as the talent is gone.

Wolfe vs. Owlsey will be an excellent game in Booneville. If Buckhorn beats Jackson City, it will be a very good semi-final match-up between Buckhorn and Wolfe or Owsley.

Does anyone have any new info.? I would imagine that they want to get this done quickly with summer ball getting ready to start.
