All have gone pretty much exactly how I thought they would with the only exception of SHDHS giving up 23 points in the second set to Central Hardin...they must've subbed some folks in that weren't as good as their starters. Without knowing this year's teams, I wonder how many regular starters Assumption sat in the first round match against South Laurel...Ron Kordes is notorious for doing that...so are the other dominant Louisville schools when they face inferior competition. I personally don't think they should allow it to be an option...they need to make it mandatory and then not allow teams to have tournaments where there can be ties or play to 21 in sets. If you can't play to 25 in a set, then don't schedule as many teams playing in tournaments.

For tournaments like that over the summer, best-of-three sets is fine BUT the KHSAA needs to do away with best-of-three sets in the varsity level and go with best-of-five (25-25-25-25-15).

I'm sorry to say this about my mountain teams but the ONLY way the South Laurel match will be somewhat close is if the AHS reserves don't play well. AHS coach Ron Kordes will most likely not dress his best players for this match...the Louisville schools usually do this when they play a team they know they're going to handily defeat in the first round...and for whatever reason, the 13th Region has played the 7th Region about half the time in the opening round since they switched to this format of 16 regional winners advancing to state. The tournament will go to a 2 year site at NKU beginning next year then once that is up, it will go back to Bellarmine for 2 years. That is the hope that it will work out like that over the next four years. I personally love it when they games are here cause it brings a decent amount of people to campus and I get paid to be at them and work in some capacity...lol.

I didn't know Deb was at Berea HS...she and Adam were always really nice folks...glad to see she has moved up from her teaching position at Rockcastle County to an administrative position/AD at Berea Community HS. SoHi has been a traditional power in the Small School division for quite a few years now...in one of the recent years, they were considered the best team in the state no matter the class. Enrollments for the teams in the finals: Small School Division Soldotna HS - 549 Kenai - 534 Large School Division Service HS - 1921 West Anchorage HS - 1801 The funny thing about all the enrollments is that in all the other sports, all four schools are in Class 4A. The enrollments from those classes are: 1A (125 schools): The Joshua Academy, Tanalian HS, Karluk HS and Liberty Christian HS (1 each) to Nelson Island HS (57) 2A (44 schools): Klukwan HS (2) to Chevak HS (99) 3A (29 schools): Matlakatla HS (87) to Mount Edgecumbe (426) 4A (24 schools): Houston HS (416) to East Anchorage HS (2193)

Thought some of you folks might want to watch the state championship games from the Alaska School activities Association. They have two divisions...Small School which is going on right now and Big School that will be on at 8pm EST/4pm Alaska Time. If you're wondering how they can be playing their state title game so early, well they start the season with games the first weekend of August and they play an eight game regular season with a three week postseason...only eight teams make the post season in each of the two classes. Runner-up: Deming As far as the regional tournament, I think it will come down to the usual suspects in the finals with those being Newport Central Catholic against Campbell County and NCC winning the region.

The only time I've seen it done was with a foreign exchange student who wanted to fit in with her American friends she had made in the first couples weeks of classes. She was nowhere near being a good player that a fifth grader could school her on the courts...she was the mop-up players that only got in when the score was out of hand and only dressed one varsity game with that being senior night...she knew that she wasn't playing with the best players, but she was just happy to be able to travel with the team, get the free gear to wear, and put on the jersey. With all that having been said, that is the only situation that I can see a coach doing it.

Are you sure they're going with definite cutoff numbers for each division? I thought the 1A and 6A classes were the 32 smallest and 32 biggest with the remaining split as even possible between the other four classes with enrollment and geography being part of it as well...or I could just totally be wrong on my assumption.

This week is their bye week since they played in what the KHSAA is calling Week 0 so this isn't a two week layoff. They have 15 days between games and with the bye week, the only difference in their schedule compared to most schools is they played Scott High on a Thursday night and will play Walton-Verona on the regular night (Friday) which is where the extra day comes into play. Don't see where it is anything different with other schools who have a week off during the season because of playing in Week 0.

Anyone notice how long is took St. Mary's Colgan of Pittsburgh, Kan., to get their 66 consecutive wins? From 1999-2204...lol.

All of the teams mentioned so far are pretty good teams, but the only two I think have a chance to win a state title are Bell County in 4A and Somerset in 3A. Most probably wouldn't consider the schools in Pulaski County in the mountains but they are in the WYMT coverage area so that's why I'm including them in this discussion.

I totally trust she'll end up where her heart leads her. She seems like she's got a good head on her shoulders so she'll make the right decision for her and her family.

Oh don't get me wrong, I think she'll end up at Louisville but wouldn't be surprised to see her go to UConn...just saying nothing is final until its final.

If I'm not mistaken she's got a visit in the near future up at UConn so I would hold off on saying she is Louisville bound. Getting to play for UConn or Tennessee in women's basketball is like getting to play for UK, Duke or UNC on the guys side so the opportunity is still there for her to choose someone like UConn. either way, I wish Sara nothing but the best and I wholeheartedly think she'll pick whatever is the best for her. Best of luck in the upcoming season and with your college choice Sara!

I'm not going to say they are slipping or anything BUT last year's results were what you would expect...they beat all the bad teams on their schedule and lost to all the strong teams on the schedule.

Sarah Rowe shouldn't count because she never played. She quit not long after making the team as a walkon. The third is Cindy McCauley who played for Marshall in the mid-90s...Johnna Abney and Jackie Alexander are the other two who have signed full scholarships in girls basketball history from the Rock. One note is there have noit been any boys players to do so.

I just don't get why there is a need to "stir it" especially in a thread like this about a song/video that brings people back to the memories of their playing days.

I don't get the comment but if HHS would have been in the video and I noticed who they were, I would have definitely posted it. There were a few schools that were in it that I could have compared different things to figure out who they were but I didn't think it was worth the time to do that.

It got me pumped about the season...can't wait for it to start. The speech at the beginning of the video reminded me of when I was a senior and Rockcastle County hosted Boyle County in the playoffs...its a tradition at Rockcastle for the seniors go up to the middle school baseball field and sit in the dugout and focus on the game and get pumped up until the coaches come get them...I may not have been a player but the emotions that when through me and what I said to the guys that night I'll never forget...yeah we did get beat in overtime but I'll never forget the feeling before the game knowing that I was truly part of something special....this video brings back all of those memories. Another thing I liked about the video is that it just didn't focus on one team or teams from just one state. Celina HS (orange jerseys) are a 2A or 3A powerhouse in Texas, Naperville Central HS (the one at the beginning of the video and had Redhawks on the logo) are from Illinois, Battle Ground Academy is from Franklin,Tenn., and Gibbs HS (the ones wearing Columbia Blue) are from Corryton, Tenn.

I'm posting this video in the HS football section cause its about high school football and the memories and life's lessons from playing the sport. (If it needs to be moved, please feel free to do so.) I know I never played HS football but watching this video has brought back SOOOO many memories from when I was a manager/student trainer with Rockcastle County. I would give anything to be able to go back and experience those fall Friday nights once again.

Please don't take offense to this cause I'm only playing Devil's Advocate in asking in that situation, do you ask to play up and have a shot a winning a state title every so often OR play in your correct class and have a better chance to win state every year? I think its a hard choice to make and would have to be discussed for a while.
