Kenton that year was awesome and probably would have beaten alot of other Ohio schools. Ben Mauk Ohio's Mr. Football that year was their QB and he threw for like almost 7,000 yards that SEASON and something like 70 some TDs in 2002 alone. Russell and Portsmouth West are running teams. And when you play teams that spread it out and they score quick and often it is hard to win. Check out the other thread Ram mentioned. This is one topic that can be repeated over and over and usually get the same results which are: Ohio High Schools overall put more emphasis on football, just like Kentucky does in Basketball.

No they don't. But they do worry about Polar Bears though, LOL.

I can remember going to games since I started school back in the 60's. I remember going to Louisa High games playing schools like McKell and Catlettsburg. I remember one game the lights went out and fans went out and pulled their cars next to fence behind the home bleachers to see if it could light up the field. The lights came back on and game resumed once everyone had got back to the field from their cars. I had a job several years that took me around the midwest during football season. Small towns in Kansas much like Louisa where I am from, football on friday nights is the same. Stores close early for games. I remember in Hays, Kansas that on opening night the high school was about 2 blocks from the football field. The High School marching Band marched their way down to the field with the football team behind them. 'Click, Clack' from the cleats matched the drum beats. The street painted with huge paw prints (Panthers was their nickname) with each name of the seniors on them. Fans stood on their feet and cheer as they walked into the stadium. I get chills thinking about it now. So matter where you go, FOOTBALL FRIDAY NIGHT, is truly America's favorite pasttime.

Montgomery County is a team since, I saw them a few years ago at the Rec Bowl that LC played in, that I knew then had gotten a new coach and after talking to him I knew the program would turn around. Much like LC has with hiring of Goldsmith. Congrats to LC on a good game and I am sure alot was learned from where they are and where they need to be by next Friday. GO DAWGS!! BEAT COAL GROVE

I would think that this conference was probably one of the toughest anywhere. All teams were very good and alot of players to chose from especially when Steel workers were living in these school districts.

^^^ I remember that conference as well. I remember reading the Ashland Daily on Saturday mornings (actually saturday afternoons then,lol) about the great games between those schools.

Nice work Dawgdays. That would be a great conference. It may happen with the new 6 class format only being in the first year alot of schools still had contracts from last season to fulfill i.e. LC vs. Coal Grove. As for the scrimmage, sounds like Goldsmith has brought back his defense mentality. Something that LC hasn't had since his departure. Don't get me wrong they had good defense's but not like the early 90's when LC would be at the top of Defensive categories in the state. If they can keep improving on Defense the Offense will come into their own and not be pressured to win games.

I have gotten a message from someone in the Bulldog camp and they do scrimmage this weekend with the teams posted in this thread(Raceland/Fleming) and next weekend is against Montgomery Co. not Fairview.

:laugh: :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: The benefits of this that I see is Kentucky starts their season the same week as border states such as: Ohio and West Virginia. I am sure the KHSAA didn't read the Farmer's Almanac to see that it would be HOT!! during August.

What people is watching them in practice? I think they scrimmage Raceland & Fleming County this weekend. Montgomery County is news to me. I thought the scrimmages were as followed: Lawrence County 8/11 vs. Raceland/Fleming County 10am 8/? vs. Fairview
