No one should compare JFL to High School. Some kids at the JFL develop faster than other kids but then the other kids do the same when they hit high school level. I coached youth league at Lawrence County when they played in the Tri-State Youth Football League and they were kids at that level who was almost too small to play. One kid I remember was so small at 12 yrs old we put him at WR. I do remember one game he wanted to play RB and with the game decided we put him in and he scored the first time he touched it. Yes it was against the other teams second team but this kid turned out to be a pretty good back at LC. His name: Michael West Some kids need time to develop and alot of kids just don't play when they get older because so many other sports vie for the best athletes.

It has been a couple of years since LC had 3XP kicks in a game. I think the Spradlin kid did it a few years ago. I am sure Billy would have loved to have Acie Waller on the 1991 team For those who remember that year, LC lost to Mayfield in the State Semi-Final game 21-18, you guessed it 3 XP. Hopefully there is another young kid in the LC system that saw this and keeps practicing. The Kicking game at the high school level can be the difference in alot of ball games.

Coty Roberts scored the go ahead TD with under 4 minutes to play. And thanks to my brother who was at the game for giving me updates while I was at a Homecoming game here in Ohio. He said Boyd pretty much had their thru the air against LC, but LC stopped them when they needed too. Way to go Dawgs!!

Lawrence has some really good QB's, but most of them known for running the option. But one who stands out above them all is: Jason Michael - 4 year starter in High School, Led LC to regional Championship over Breathitt County that broke their streak I believe he had 39 wins as a starter. Then he played on Western Kentucky's NCAA 1-AA Championship as their starting QB. After WKU he was a grad assistant for Phillip Fulmer at Tennessee. He left there for a job with the Oakland Raiders for one year before landing his job now with the New York Jets as a an assistant Tight End coach. Mostly because alot of kids have either quit or have transferred out and this is not a coach issue but school adminstration issue and I will leave it at that. LC numbers in general the last 3 years prior to this year were way down with only about 35 - 40 kids at varsity level. The statement about LC being young has been said for the past couple years mainly because alot of people kept referring to the feeder programs and middle school. There is alot of young talent at skill positions at LC this year than there has been in several years but the problem is most of them are either Sophomores or Freshmen. I have known Billy since he came to LC back in the early 80's and he is working hard to bring back the excitement to LC football. Alot of people say he doesn't jump around and dance like he did when they played over 15 years ago. Well all I can say is of course not. I don't do that either, it is called growing old,

I coached Little League football in Louisa for 2 years 11-12 yr olds, and I had went to (at the time) Coach Williams and Coach Ratliff to learn just basic stuff on offense and defense. I then took it back to the players and used the same thing. It worked, some of the guys I had on my team then was: Dontae Wright Michael West TJ Caudill Todd Issac These are just some of the ones I had. These guys went on to outstanding High School careers for Lawrence County. Feeder programs also only work if the high school coaches do what they did for me. That was sit down or allow me to watch and learn during practices.

Not sure, I know he was supposed to be at one of the smaller schools in Kentucky not sure which one and I don't think he was playing ball.

Lawrence County has had their share of outstanding players through the years. Several former players are coaching in the high school ranks, but 3 of them are moving up in College and the NFL ranks. Jason Michael, Gerard Parker, Donte Wright are the 3. Just wanted to say we at LC are proud of all the former players but these 3 have proven what LC football is all about. I disagree. The airwaves is where he has the right to voice opinion, (Free Speech). Now the question should be "He should NOT voice his opinion during a football game". He should have a open call in show after the game or during the week to discuss his issue. As for the assigning secretary; I know Bill, and he is a class guy. Every game I remember him doing when I was in school or after he was fair.

I saw this story on ONN last night. Alot of people stepped up to help these kids. And Colerain really came to the rescue quick with the uniforms. This is really a feel good story.

Yes it was a "Dawg Fight". That probably was one of the hardest hitting games that Lawrence County had at that time. I for one think that game was the very first step for LC that lay the groundwork for what the program became, alot of young kids saw that game that when they got to high school they were hitting hard every game like that one. The previous 4 years of LC football no team had a winning record and this team did that with a 6-5 record. At that time Coach Anthony Hatchell had been coach for 2 years and had a 11-11 record. Well he was not rehired for the next season and former superintendent Eddie Michael came in and took over that team and had LC in the playoffs in 3 years for the first time since it was Louisa High. And he did that with a young energetic coach by the name of Billy Goldsmith. And we know what happened next. Remembering those days get me pumped up still,

They did not beat us pretty good, In Fact it took at late TD by their stud RB John Gilliam to beat us in the 4th quarter.

I need to pull out my old shirt from my high school days, (back in the fall of 1981), that one of team members made up in Graphic Art class. It simply says: " Beat P'burg " LC gets things untrack and rolling to a 24 - 21 victory.
