Elder vs. Lou St. X would pit Elders strength (defense) against Lou St X's strength (offense). I normally side with the defensive team in these encounters, but I am going to say even. Elders special teams are slightly better. It would come down to Elders offense against St. X's defense. On a neutral field I would give the edge to Lou st. X but by no more than 3 points. I doubt that either team is leaps and bounds better than the other team. Elder plays California De lasalle this weekend so I might change the St. X being 3 points better after this weekend.

Very hard to argue the point. I am having trouble coming up with 5 teams in the state of Ky. that could compete with the top five teams in Cincinnati. By compete I mean beat, because Highlands and Covcath have competed.The teams in Cincinnati would be Cincinnati St. Xavier Colerain Elder Moeller Lakota West

They block well move well and play smart. They have an advantage in that Kramer hits the hole as fast as any back at Highlands in a while and Clay Cecil does a good job of getting out of trouble when pass rushed. They all move well for their size and can block downfield in the open field. Rate compared to previous lines 75th percentile.

Highlands has not fared too bad against the 4A Louisville schools. Trinity - Highlands 1-1 St. X - Highlands 2-2 Male - Highlands 1-2 PRP - Highlands 0-2 Fern Cr. - Highlands 0-1 If my stats are accurate Highlands is 8 - 4 against the 4A Louisville Schools

Parents should not have to get transportation for their child to football practice. Bicycles or walking still work.If a player misses practice cause he cant get a ride, he did not want to be at practice, this is the only exception I found in your post Hank.

Dayton, I am sure had a whale of a ballteam in 1943. I am also sure they had at least one loss on their record. Back in those days the river towns ( those towns located on the ohio) had really good football teams. Dayton and Ludlow were no exception. When you throw in Newport, Covington Holmes and Bellevue you had some really nice ball teams and a tough conference which I believe they referred to as the Little 6. Dayton's Quarterback in 1943 was Bob Demoss who went on to start for the Purdue Boilermakers in 1945 as a freshman defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes who were rated No. 1 in the country in most polls in his debut as Purdue's opening game quarterback.I dont know how the Rotary Bowl selected the teams but I am sure they looked at all the teams and came up with Ashland ( who was undefeated ) and Highlands ( who had one loss , but a big win over the best team in Cincinnati ). Who knows maybe Male was asked but elected to play their rival Manual. One can only speculate but in any event we can not rewrite history and we can only guess who would have prevailed between Male and Highlands. We can gain some solace in knowing that both programs have survived the test of time and I look for a good season from both H and H

The 1943 Highlands team claimed the mythical state championship by defeating Ashland in the Rotary bowl, and also claimed the greater Cincinnati championship by beating Cincinnati St X., who was undefeated and won the GCL sporting a quarterback named George Ratterman who later played for Notre Dame and the Cleveland Browns.

No excuses here LMB, Bell has a nice school , nice football facility, great atmosphere, love coming down in the playoffs. Hope to be there in 2006.I dont believe Highlands has lost there, but there is always a first time. Good luck to the Bobcats.

Cincinnati Elder has the largest crowd at away games. I am guessing 12 to 15 thousand all dressed in purple. Since Highlands holds around 4,500 seating will be limited.

correction - Highlands won both games in 1995. the list shows covcath winning the regular season game and they lost big.

Covcath lost twice in 95. Highlands won the regular season 48-18 or something like that . then won in the playoff at Covcath 3 - 0., in a typical HHS Covcath playoff muddy rainy and if I remember correctly some sleet.
