Is this True?

Is this based on CovCath & HHS and their records against the MUCH larger GCL schools. Is that a fair comparison of NKy vs. Cincinnati?

 

How would NKy compare against similar sized schools? For that matter, how would similar sized schools (current KY AAA size) in Ohio fare against the GCL powers and Colerain?

 

BTW, I think Ryan does a great job of covering Nky sports and we are lucky to have him. I just thought it interesting he used this as sort of a "given".

Its comparing apples and oranges, but yes it is true. There are simply so many more athletes across the river at a whole. NKY is a relatively small area with a low population to be compared to Cincinatti. I also agree, Ryan does do an excellent job. The only place in Kentucky that a fair comparison could be made against would be Louisville. It is the only city with a comparable population.

I don't think it is difficult to make the statement that Cincinnati football is better than Northern Kentucky football.

 

Keep in mind, it probably has a lot to do with the enrollment of the respective schools.

I've talked to coaches who have been both here in Kentucky and elsewhere like Ohio, Georgia, etc. They all say coaching is worse in places where talent is common. Kentucky coaches have learned to work harder for success. You can't teach speed.

My bad. I should have left that off, except that I meant it to be coming from a Cincinnati (GCL) source. Regardless, I think he does a really good job as I stated above.

That's my point. If you compare similar size schools......

I find everything that Ryan says to be amusing . . . . . . .

 

Ryan is a very solid writer--but in this man's eyes--he knows very little about football in general. (And that is okay I guess).

 

A couple examples:

*Writing that NKY coaches think that a certain coach is the best with X's/O's (I still haven't been able to confirm that thought with any NKY coaches)

*Voting for a certain team as #1 in a certain class--after 1 loss and 1 mediocre win.

 

With this story--what is he telling us that we don't already know? NOTHING. It is there to sell papers. Good for him. He is doing his job--and even though I don't think that he is great football-wise, I have respect for the fact that he is doing his job. I just am not going to give him the pleasure of falling into some of his stories.

 

Overall--he may have a point about this and he may not. But the thing that everyone needs to remember--Ryan makes these statements to stir up conversation. And it works--which is a shame--because it doesn't take too much to see what the level of knowledge is. (But dumb me was always under the impression that a reporter is supposed to paint a picture with their words).

 

When a non-football person is asked to write about football--this is what you are going to get. Ryan is a solid writer. I personally don't care for his interpetation of the game of football.

Regardless, I think he does a really good job as I stated above.

As much as I hate to say this, Ohio in general has better football teams than KY. Yes some teams here can compete and win vs Oh teams, but all in all Ohio is better than Kentucky

In the post you quoted I specifically asked about a comparrison of similar sized schools and what their record would be.....

 

Do you base your statement on Highlands record against GCL Schools (At least in part)?
