Ryan Ernst: Cincinnati football is just better than Northern Ky. Football

As much as I hate to say this, Ohio in general has better football teams than KY. Yes some teams here can compete and win vs Oh teams, but all in all Ohio is better than Kentucky

I agree with this.

I've talked to coaches who have been both here in Kentucky and elsewhere like Ohio, Georgia, etc. They all say coaching is worse in places where talent is common. Kentucky coaches have learned to work harder for success. You can't teach speed.

You're right about the talent level. Ohio has a ton!:thumb:

I agree. I feel we have some of the best coaches around right here in the state of Kentucky.

Where in my post.....or any post did I say Ky was Superior?

In the post you quoted I specifically asked about a comparrison of similar sized schools and what their record would be.....

Do you base your statement on Highlands record against GCL Schools (At least in part)?

No...I base my post on my experience as a player in both OH and KY and a coach in both OH and KY. And, while KY has improved by leaps and bounds in Football over the past 15 years (better facilities, better coaching, more overall interest statewide)....there still is no comparison between the the two.

I think that you need to look at overall interest. I mean, you need to look at how many different areas of Ohio eat and sleep football. KY has a few pockets where football is No. 1 (Mayfield-Paducah, NKY, Louisville, Danville, Bowling Green) but other than that it's basketball. In Ohio, even the rural areas are much more concerned with football, all of their athletes come out for football, and therefore there is a higher proportion of competitive teams. It isn't just a top 5-8 like each class in KY has, it's a top 25-30 competitive teams. Your top top teams would be competetive in their respective classes either in OH or KY, but after you get past that first five, there's no comparison. It's not just population, it's the emphasis put on football in OH.

Very hard to argue the point. I am having trouble coming up with 5 teams in the state of Ky. that could compete with the top five teams in Cincinnati. By compete I mean beat, because Highlands and Covcath have competed. The teams in Cincinnati would be

Cincinnati St. Xavier

Colerain

Elder

Moeller

Lakota West

Not mentioning all the other factors, Ohio wins hands down in the game of numbers. Nearly 800 high schools playing football versus 200 in Kentucky. How obvious is it that with the population and number of schools advantage alone, Ohio wins in a landslide.

Funny thing..........both states will soon have the same number of football classes.......AN UTTER JOKE!

I agree that Ohio Football is at higher level as a whole.

That is really not what the thread was about though.

It was NKy vs Greater Cincinnati. 2 areas where football is of great interest.

I agree that no NKy schools compare to the top BIG schools of Greater Cincinnati.

What I ask is:

Are the schools of similar size in Northern KY (NOT all of Ky) comparable to schools of a similar size from Greater Cincinnati.

OR

is it a given that the Greater Cincinnati schools are better?

I agree, is there anyone who would argue this fact?

Ryan is simply telling us what we already know.

:thumb: I definitely agree..

The approximate four-grade enrollments of those schools (doubling the all-boys schools):

St. Xavier ... 2900

Colerain ... 2100

Elder ... 2100

Moeller ... 1950

Lakota West ... 2500

It's complete unrealistic to expect the vast majority of Kentucky schools to be on par with those prorgams because of the enrollment disparity.

I agree that Ohio Football is at higher level as a whole.

This argument looks familiar...;)

For the record, no one ever agreed with me...

Agreed. T and X have proven that our best can play with their best, but when you get to the middle-of-the-pack schools Ohio becomes the much better football state.

It's tough to compare on the basis of, out of the select few schools in NKY that play football, who would you have play who? It could be set up on enrollment, but if a NKY school beats a Cincy school with same numbers, but less talent, we get the response that the NKY team should have scheduled so and so. If the reverse happens, it's b/c Ohio is better. It's lose/lose. For the small schools I know that Beechwood holds it's own. When NewCath played out of state in '94 they beat Kings and lost to Loveland in the closing minutes. Ludlow I believe split with Cincy Country Day. That's all I can think of over my head.

I didn't even make the argument. I just asked the question. :D

There are two AAAA catholic schools in the city of Louisville. Cincinatti has two leagues of catholic schools. Population is very comprable between the two cities. Talent has many more select schools to go to in Cincinatti, and our states two biggest are barely competative when they only have one another to compete against for talent. All in all, football talent is just much greater across the river.

Why would you figure in an imaginary girl enrollment? Just compare the boys' enrollment.
