I happen to know someone with that power, and he's about to shut this bad boy down and get into a real fun session of PMs you guys don't want to be in on. Knock off the personal posturing and woofing and stick to the topic or you're done and nobody wins.

How exactly is the current rule unfair?

I know this is a high school oriented board, but does anyone have some constructive advice on getting a middle school team up and running this spring? I'm especially interested in matches in the Northeastern corner of the state.

I don't know what you mean by "right age" but none of 'em are walking their kids to school yet... :lol: They'll all be eligible to play high school ball as seniors. That makes 'em the right age in my rule book.

Good news about Jo... he's in our prayers for a speedy recovery and a successful D-1 career. We wish him the very best. :thumb: The Hill could use a good color man on the radio broadcasts over the next few seasons. IMO, grades have little to do with the primary reason for parents to exercise their best judgment in regard to the grade level in which their son should be enrolled. We’ve all known kids that hit puberty in the 5th or 6th grade and were shaving and flexing new muscles in the 7th grade. As a result, they were the studs of their middle school teams. We’ve also known many others who didn’t “bloom” until much later, and didn’t truly “fill out” until after graduation. I could name the names of several guys who were studs in middle school, but topped out early and were passed up by later bloomers in high school. I could also name many guys that didn’t hit their big growth spurt until their freshman year, but came on like gangbusters and were pleasant surprises for their high school coaches. Many of these guys even earned college scholarships. ( I know one guy who was 5’9” and 165 lbs the day he graduated H.S. and two years later was 6’3” and 200+. A year back would have helped him immensely. ) O.J. Mayo is a freak of nature (in a good way.) It wouldn’t have mattered if he had been ahead one, or even two years of where he is today. He was second team All-State in Kentucky as a 7th grader and first team as an 8th grader. Does anyone really think that being ahead a year or two would have hindered his game? If anything, he may have benefited from getting through school sooner to qualify for the NBA draft before the new rules came into effect. The fact is that 999,999 out of a million young men aren’t much like O.J. Mayo. If the rules allow up to 19 (after August) and that’s what is enforced, I don’t see a problem. By their senior year, most athletes are about the same level of physical maturity… not all but most. So whether they started a year early, on time, or a year later and are 19, it doesn’t much matter. I think it’s a good policy that allows smart parents to do what they feel is best for their kids. As for parents who are knuckleheads… you can’t do much with them anyway. :lol:

It's been a long time since I ran "from" anything, and Rocky has the only job worth running "for" sewed up. :lol: I remember listening to my dad's uncles talking about some of the tiny schools that made it to the big show back in the day. The Lions are proof that the legends and dreams are still alive. If that doesn't choke you up a little bit, you just don't understand Kentucky basketball. :thumb:

Good post, and I would say that we agree. I just thought it was funny that you chose post #10 of this thread to do exactly what you were complaining about in the thread that got shut down. :lol: This is one of the biggest stories of the year as far as I'm concerned. I have to admit that I got choked up reading the Mike Fields article in the Herald-Leader about the Lions first trip to Rupp... especially the part about Evan getting a standing ovation in church the Sunday after the semi-finals. (That's the kind of church I could really enjoy being a part of.) We never know what tomorrow might bring, or even if we will have another tomorrow for that matter. This is about as close as any of us get to living out a modern day fairy tale. Savor it, enjoy it, wring it out to the last drop, this is something that will always add to the richness of your life and you will never forget. :thumb:

This is exactly what makes many 16th Region threads a point of humor to many other BGPers. For some reason we end up bickering with each other over the dumbest things and get more threads closed than any other region in the state. For the record, it was not a RH poster that got your other thread closed. Believe it or not, not everyone at RH is a rotten egg. Most of us are genuinely happy for Elliott County. You have some great kids living out the storybook dream and legend of Kentucky High School Basketball. I personally have no doubt that the fans at Rupp will fall in love with your team and style of play. You guys will remind them of what it’s all about. Make no mistake, we want like crazy to get to Rupp again ourselves, BUT we also know what it will take to get there. We are not out to take something we didn’t earn, or to taint your accomplishment. You guys earned the privilege this season. Straight up, no excuses. Enjoy the heck out of it. Have fun. Make the 16th Region proud. Make memories that will be talked about 50 years from now. :thumb:

This is about as great a compliment anyone could pay a fine young man and extraordinary competitor... and for what it's worth, I agree. :thumb: Drew is about as upstanding and respectable a young man as this area has launched into the world. I genuinely love and respect him and wish him nothing but the best in his collegiate and career pursuits. :thumb: The one thing I can't figure out is how he got all that talent and ability from his mom's side of the family... :confused: :sssh: :lol: :lol: :lol: Actually his dad Joe was a pretty good athlete in his day, but it's fair to say that Drew kicked things up a notch. :thumb:

I never considered giving a sincere compliment to good coach and a fine lady all that intriguing... but then I forget we're in the 16th Region... :creepy: :eek: :scared: :sssh: :lol: :lol: :lol: You know, there are actually some people who coach because they want to help kids be the best they can be... not for the personal attention and recognition they might receive for themselves. I believe Pam Euton is in this for the kids, I've seen it day after day, week after week, year after year. :thumb: Considering what we've come to accept as normal, I guess that is pretty "interesting." :lol:

Being a good coach is one of the toughest jobs going. When your team wins your players get the credit, and when your team loses, you take the blame. Coach Pam Euton has taken more than her share of "shots"... it's time she gets some of the props she deserves... No discussion of ANY criminal behavior (charged or uncharged) in the high school forums. Discussion of adult criminal behavior is permitted in all non-high school forums. However, discussion of criminal behavior by juveniles (anyone under 18) is never permitted anywhere on BGP. Someone will have to start a new thread to provide updates on VanHoose and Boyles.

You're right... you never know. Scott Gill is a phenomenal athlete, but on paper, there is about a 10 to 15 ppg difference between Gill and VanHoose. Now, Scott... go prove this wrong... :thumb: As far as Ashland vs Fairview, on paper, the Tomcats should win this game handily. But, as everyone knows, the game isn't played on paper. Paper can't measure heart, and this is something Mr. Barker and company have in abundance. This should be a really good game.

:lol: :lol: :lol: I'll bite first here... Euton and Jackson are the difference between 19-6 and maybe 6-19 with the schedule RH had this season. Their contribution to this team cannot be understated. Coach Fraley's comments about Euton and Jackson had about as much adverse effect on the other players as it would for him to walk into the gym on a sunny day and say, "Man, the sky is really blue out there." Every kid on the team knows the impact of Euton and Jackson. They also see them in the gym working as hard or harder than anybody else on the team. It's not like this just fell in their laps. You already answered this one. It takes five, and last night with three points scored by guys not named Euton or Jackson, it hurt. What should a coach say about the two most talented, hardest working players on his own team? :lol: I don't think Tim Fraley is seeking a career in politics after he retires from coaching. :lol: :lol: :lol:

WARNING We need to stick to the events of the ballgame, and possibly the health and well being of two fine young athletes none of us want to see injured. No more insults or derogatory comments about radio personalities, or directed toward each other.

Euton and Jackson scored 20 each, Fuller had 2 and Malloy 1. Euton had 12 boards and Jackson 9 of RH's 33. The Lions and Coach Pratt deserve full credit for pulling out a big win. No one gave it to them, they earned it. Rose Hill's kids deserve credit for putting together a terrific year with some big wins over some very good opponents. They finish 19 and 6 overall, and as a team that started an 8th grader, two freshmen, a sophomore and a junior... they have something to look forward to. Congratulations all around... :thumb:

Hollingsworth brings a lot to WC. It is unlikely he could have made a 31 point difference in the game, but not having him on the floor hurt the comets severely. He's an outstanding young golfer as well. :thumb: What can you say about Elliott County? Good job boys! I look forward to seeing you all in Morehead... preferably with my guys somewhere in the mix too. :thumb:
