I hate to break up all this lovely chit chat regarding the unbelievably unfair advantages private schools have over poor little old public schools... :lol: We are about to hear news in the Lexington media about a sophomore to be at Rose Hill being offered an opportunity to become a Kentucky Wildcat. I would suspect it should hit the wires and airwaves Monday afternoon. Remember you heard it on BluegrassPreps.com first. :thumb: Congratulations Dakota Euton. The Fastbreak family is really proud of you. :dancingpa For the record, even though you do look incredibly fashionable in Carolina blue, I've always prefered Kentucky Royal Blue myself... and not with that goofy orange a certain school in the Sunshine State adds to their Royal blue. I agree that making such a statement about any 10th graders sounds like a truckload of hype... but these are two of the finest young men it is my privilege to know. With three full years to develop and grow, I would not be surprised at all to see this pair contribute to bringing success back to the UK program.

Euton and Jackson have been starting at the varsity level since 7th grade. As a result, they both have the skills and experience level of many quality high school seniors. Both work as hard as anybody out there. Euton is getting stronger and quicker every year. Jackson is getting stronger... I don't know how he could get a whole lot quicker. Euton is a threat to score from 30 feet in. Jackson is developing a nice outside stroke to go with his ability to penetrate and finish. The best part is, they have three more years to grow and fill out... three more years... I actually think they both could have another inch or two left to grow, and lots of muscle to put on. Time is on their side. They are both a safe bet for a major D1 program. The best thing might be for Coach G to snag both of them. He'd be snaring two quality players who will have been winning together on a national level more than seven years by their senior year of H.S. That would really give folks something to talk about. :thumb:

This is amazing... :eek: The first paragraph says it all: "The Kentucky High School Athletic Association has placed the Greenup County boys’ basketball program on two years probation and levied other penalties against the school as a result of alleged recruiting violations by former boys’ basketball coach Jim Hicks." I don't have a dog in this fight, and I don't know Coach Hicks all that well, but I do know his attorney very well, and know him to be a quality person. The fact that the KHSAA has levied punishment based upon "allegations" without ever actually interviewing Hicks in the process is mind-boggling. I don't see this as a very good way to encourage schools to police themselves.

We all pile on the Ashland Daily Independent for their less than enthusiastic coverage of ALL area teams. I've heard their reasons/excuses and understand them well. The bottom line is, if we're going to trash them when they fumble, we need to pick 'em up and pat 'em on the back when they do something right. I've attached a link below that is about the classiest thing the ADI has ever done. The link opens a photodocumentary slideshow by John Flavell of the Elliott County Lions' run at Rupp. There's a musical score and it's really well done. I'd like to see the ADI do this every year. Flav-a-flav (Flavell) is one of the best in the business. My only complaint is we don't get to see enough of him and his work in our gym. Ferguson broke a 52 year-old state tournament record for converting the "Most Freethrows in One Game" last set in 1955 by Ralph Cheer (sp?) of Adair County with 15. Good job boys! Way to represent the 16th region. Keep the fairy tale alive. :thumb:

Dino, for a 6’ 11” Croatian former NBA stud, you sure seem concerned about a 19 year old high school kid. I guess I can understand… Google “O.J. Mayo” and you find over 6.35 million links. “Dino Radja” brings only 62,500. Granted, most of these don’t apply to either player, but it does represent a difference of 101.6 times more hits for a kid that hasn’t even played a regulation game beyond the high school level. For Dino to have played in Europe, the Olympics, the World Games, and the NBA this has to be a source of anguish. Between Dino Radja and Toni Kukoc, Michael Jordan took Kukoc. Jordan (now the minority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats) is also courting Mayo. I’ll grant you that Mayo has yet to prove he can do anything in college or the NBA, but if one of (if not) the greatest to ever play the game thinks Mayo has the stuff, I have to agree with him. I’ve watched him since the 7th grade, and he’s unlike anyone else. Attempting to pull Mayo down to a level you’re more comfortable with is like trying to squeeze five pounds of sausage into a one pound skin…:lol: This kid is simply playing the game with wide open enthusiasm enhanced by an abnormal dose of God given talent. Did you guys complain when Secretariat won the 1973 Belmont Stakes by 31 lengths when all he really needed was a nose? Did King Kelly Coleman really need to score all those points in his day? :lol: If anyone is guilty of “showing up” the other team it’s the HHS coach, not the kids playing the game. I grew up reading Bronc Burnett and Chip Hilton novels extolling the virtues of good sportsmanship and hard work. I’m as old school as anybody on this board, but to not understand that Mayo is on an entirely different level from anyone we’ve ever had come up in this area is to ignore the obvious. This kid has been the “show” at whatever school he’s attended since the 7th grade. He’s been a prime revenue generator at every school he’s attended. He has his own (reasonably accurate) entry on Wikipedia… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OJ_Mayo . As much as being a phenomenal basketball talent, he’s an entertainer. If some of you resent that or refuse to acknowledge it that’s your choice, but it’s obvious that Mayo understands who and what he is better than any of you. Your complaining reminds me of Antonio Salieri who complained that God would invest His incredibly divine talent in such a vulgar creature as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. :lol:

Somehow, I think Mayo would hold his own with all the other 19-20 year-olds in the League... :lol: :lol: :lol: He'll be a poster boy alright, but not for some sad disability or failure... :lol:

I'd like to get these kids some actual match competition in the spring so as to better prepare them to compete in the coming school year at the end of summer. If there are any schools out there with some middle school aged golfers who would like to schedule a match this spring, let me know. :thumb:

I'm not a BGP attorney, nor do I have final say on this. I tend to be far more lenient than most other mods. One of them may read this in the daylight hours and have a stronger opinion. Bottom line, this was headed the wrong direction fast and needed to be stopped before it spun out of control. I appreciate you guys cooling it off. :thumb:

That's why this thread is still open and you're still posting. This was getting way too personal, and it needed to stop before someone crossed the line. It is evident that, for whatever reason, you have an axe to grind with the current KHSAA rules regarding player's age. The fact that Kentucky is not unusual in its application of player age considerations clearly has no merit in your opinion. That's fine. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but just as time is not a validation, neither is opinion.

You know, I really don't want to shut this down. It's an important topic that should be discussed. You wanna talk about "fair"... it's not fair that somebody can get on here and steamroll a thread and get it closed and buried for everyone else that might have an interest in it. It seems the most "fair" thing to do is go back and erase the errant posts and leave it open for everyone else. If that happens, the transgressor(s) will be granted a little vacation time.
