Do they realize what part of the country they are in? He got offered a walk on spot. Woopty-freakin-doo! Think about some of the walk-ons at UK. Who has really contributed in the recent past that was a walk on besides Mills and Ravi? It has been stated many times that BCG likes to have a good supply of walk ons. One more time, for good measure. If his shot and handle, or his quickness with the ball do not improve, he will NEVER play meaningful minutes at UK. He has to find a way to score besides just ending up with the ball under the basket. Newsflash, getting boards in high school or catching passes in the lane in high school is a different world than doing the same in college.

I would change would to could in that first statement, without a doubt. He will never play. He is a 6'1 kid that cant play PG and can't shoot. He is bringing him in there to bring up the defensive intensity in practice, but when Billy G is bringing in 6'4 and above guys to play Henderson's position and those guys can already play offense as well, it doesnt bode well for him. You are right he will use Henderson for his defense....in practice. If you have a kid already there and not having to pay for anything, why would he need to take up one of the few scholarships you have? Not happening.

There is no such thing as a "walk-on scholarship." That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard....

I think the minimum to be accepted is an 18 or 19, but there are no guarantees for that to make it in. It is more likely that anyone below a 22 or 23 will be put on the waiting list with as so many kids are coming to UK seems like. Also seems like the freshman class sets a new record every year because they are accepting so many students. Also, a 25 ACT and 3.5 GPA won't sniff any regular scholarship money at UK. I had a 25 with a 3.9 and couldnt find one. As someone mentioned before though, there are many minority scholarships he would probably be able to get. Does anyone know if UK is his favorite college team or if he follows another?

I'm sure he does. I'm sure you know all about me as well to disregard what I am saying. I find it hard for anyone to admit he isnt lazy. That is all I am getting at. I hope to see him take his intensity up a few notches and play in the NBA one day as well. Don't misconstrue what I am saying. I wish the kid the best and hope he figures out what he has to where he can be the best he can be...hopefully at UK.

So he isnt lazy during high school games? I dont think many people will deny the ability he has, but the "want to" he has. College coaches see the ability, and believe they can be the one to get the effort out of him. Coaches are arrogant like that, and we all know that. I'm not saying they cant do it, as I hope someone does. Don't take things so personal and always thinking someone is trying to "lecture" you when they disagree with you. It's part of the board.

Yeah, I didnt really expect any D1 offers for him, being a 6'5 or 6'6 post player. I didnt know how many smaller schools might be looking at him. I could see him doing very well at a lot of these good NAIA schools we have in KY. Georgetown started a kid that was 6'2 250 in the post. I could definitely see him on the D2 level as well. It would have to be the mid-majors if he had a good shot on the D1 level. Hard to believe nobody is really on him though with the way he looked at State.

I could see Whitaker putting his name in the hat for this job along with a few others.

I say all of the above, but I have to follow it up with this. It wouldnt bother me to see him at UK. If there is a coach that could get effort out of the kid, I think Billy G could. However, if he comes in with the attitude and effort I have seen in the games I have seen him play he will be sitting a lot and would be a potential transfer, IMO.

I'll try to translate for you guys. By "sorry", LMB means that the kid is just flat out lazy. He looks like he doesnt care except for when he has the ball in his hands. He may have had games during the year where he goes all out a little more, but when he has come to this part of the state that just hasnt been the case. You guys can laugh and go on all you want, but the fact of the matter is when Hopson has been around Lexington he hasnt played hard at all. He will get his points. I can admit and LMB will as well that Hopson can get by anyone he wants at any time during the game, its just a matter of him wanting to. He never wants to play defense though. He will get some boards, but when it comes to guarding someone he relies on his natural abilities more than he does effort, which is a lot of what defense comes down to. Yes S3, you can be talented and lazy. It is very possible. I would have thought you would know that? If you cant admit he is as lazy as he is talented I have to wonder about what games you are watching when Hopson is playing in high school. Notice I am excluding AAU from all of this as I have not seen him play an AAU game.

Coaches make the choice to be a coach and put in a certain amount of work. You can cry about them being overpaid and over worked, but the fact of the matter is they dont have to coach to get by and they dont HAVE to put in a ton of hours like many do. It's best that you do if you want to be successful, but again, its not a requirement like being at school all day as a teacher.
