Also, the Futures Stars roster (elite soph.) and Junior All Stars roster (elite juniors) will be announced next Thursday for that Fridays Sports Overtime . All three all star games will be played on (Sat.) April 5th at KCC .

Adidas Showcases Eastern Ky.s

Top H.S. Basketball Players

The 4th annual Adidas Appalachian All Star Classic will take on a new setting this year with a boys tripleheader format featuring the best of the best boys high school basketball players from the KHSAA regions 12 thru 16 . This new scheme was derived by co-game directors Ira D. Combs & Harold A. Combs ( retired high school coaches themselves ) to showcase the areas many talented younger players in the sophomore & junior classes as well as the graduating seniors for the college coaches , recruiters , and many basketball fans of the Tri State area .

Tri State Sports Services scouts have been evaluating players across these 5 KHSAA regions the past 4 months and have settled on the rosters listed below . Doors will open to this event at 4:00 p.m. on April 5th at the Morton Combs Athletic Complex located adjacent to Knott Central H.S. in Hindman , Ky.

Senior all stars will be presented an Adidas Appalachian all star uniform for their past four years of showcasing their talents across eastern ky. while the underclassmen all stars will be wearing their respective high school uniforms in each of their games .

The annual Adidas Appalachian Player of the year award and Adidas Appalachian Coach of the year award will be presented in pre game ceremonies before the senior gold medal game by Tri State Sports Services Inc. co directors Ira D. Combs & Harold A. Combs .

In the write up it says that Jacob Sparks declined to play for the Junior squad. It also says that Selby is 6'6" and Petit is 6'7". I was just wondering where the people received their information from. Sparks is a senior, Selby is 6'4" at the most and Petit is 6'9"

I was thinking Selby was about 6'3" and I know Petit is bigger. I agree Cooter.

 

There is some fine talent on those rosters. Shoudl be a good, fun event.:thumb:

It's very possible that the two best teams of the day will be the two sophomore and under teams. Both those teams are absolutely stacked...

Thats what I was thinking as I read it. I would bet on that South Sophmores over the Seniors team.

Congrats to all these young men.

How do they select these players? Cody Decker was the third best senior on his own team and it's been that way for the past three seasons. He barely even got off the bench late in the season after he came back from an injury. I'm not trying to be harsh on Decker but there are several seniors from the 12th region that are more deserving and as I said two from his own team.

How do they pick these players? I have played and watched the 16th region for many years and the players selected from 16th region besides the Faulkner twins and Ferguson arent even the best throughout the region

I can guarantee you Ferguson did not have a clue that he was invited, which means his Coach must have made the decision for him, and I don't like that idea at all.

These players are evaluated all throughout the year as much as possible by this group and they try to pick the ones that they think should be here. Granted they may miss some of the best players of certain regions, probably because they were not able to get to all the teams in every region as much as they needed too. These guys do a great job with this event and get a lot of the best players in these surrounding regions, yes they may miss some, but it's still a great thing they are doing for these kids and I would like to thank them very much for doing this.

The South Junior All Stars won handily...116 to 98 (I think). The size of the North not a factor. Justin Jones had the only dunk in this game and played great defense against Collins. Buckhorn's Andy Blank did play. In short, the South team meshed and played well together. Unofficially, Charles led the South team offensively with 26 or 28 pts. Siedel probably around 18. Maggard played great inside, getting boards against the much taller North players. Amis also played well.

 

Profit, Cackling and Warren led the North squad.

Elisha has yet to get the attention that is sure to come. His game has improved significantly over the past year, and he has a tremendous work ethic. He very possibly could be the best player in the mountains the next two seasons...
