Does your school allow there coach's to attend the state tournament if they are not playing in the tournament? If so do they receive pay, for the days out of school, and do they receive expense money?

I think the school does pay for the trip if the school isn't in the state tourny. If they get pay, they would just have to take paid vacation would be my guess.

Depends on the school,the principal,and the athletic director.

I think MOST schools allow Head Coach and assistants to attend. School usually pays for rooms and tickets.I guess some pay for meals or booster club throws in meal $$.

Doesn't the Sweet 16 recognize coach passes? I would think that most schools would not pick up the bill for the hotel, or meal money. In my opinion, this is a purely extra-curicular activity for coaches. Their "living" expenses should be paid by them.

I don't understand? If the school districts are as financially strapped as they say, why in the world would they pick up the tab to allow their coach(es) to attend this tournament. It makes no sense to me to allow them 3 days off school and potential out of the classroom. They can go to the tournament on Saturday morning and catch the final 4.

If I were an AD and the Coach did not express an interest in going to the state tounament I would probably be looking for another guy to run the program. If my Coach had no interest in seeing some of the most successful coaches, players and programs in the state and what they are doing to be successful then I probably would feel he should be doing something other than running our high school program. I know many schools face budget problems but I would certainly encourage the school or boosters to help fund at least part of the cost.

I can only see a select few schools willing to do something like this, and those schools are probably usually playing in it anyway.

The degree of funding is set by the individual schools.

It is a well-deserved respite from the long season, just completed.

 

NO! The KHSAA does not accept coaches passes BUT provides each school with a pair of tickets and most schools buy extras. The norm is a set of four tickets per school, which are located primarily in the lower arena side area. Schools that buy extra tickets above the four option, receive seats in the corners of the lower arena.

They do give the coaches a hospitality room though.

Some I know get to use professional development days, also get a room paid for as well as tickets.

Should the coach take the room and let someone else use it, sale their tickets that the school bought and take the expense money for the trip and go fishing? My though is if they are not going to state tournament they should be at school teaching and should not take the ticket money or expense monty.

Don't some or most schools take spring break during this week so that this problem is avoided?

Coaches are underpaid and overworked. I think the trip to the tourney is warranted in all cases. Teachers still attend art shows, FBLA conventions,FFA conventions, etc. even when they are not participating in the convention. Do you have any idea how many trips your superintendent and board members take every year to Florida,Vegas, etc.? There isn't many teachers in any system that would put the time, effort and heart into coaching for what they are paid!
