  1. Collins does not want to run with OHS. I think Collins needs to set up in the half court and bomb away from 3. Collins may get some opportunities at junk baskets if they beat OHS down the court off rebounds. Collins may be able to run but I'd advise them to pick their spots to do so. OHS can go to their bench and there are plenty of athletes there as well. If OHS plays well, Collins is in trouble. No disrespect to Collins, they're a fine team. OHS is capable of winning the whole thing and this team won't be looking past Collins.
  2. You're right! I'm going senile lol. Collins was legit in football 2 years ago. I'm glad they beat highlands. Of course, OHS is going to have to exact some revenge at Rupp.
  3. To my surprise, Meade tried to get in a up tempo game with OHS. That was a mistake. Even though Meade was severely outmatched in the paint, I think Meade would've been best served by slowing the tempo and packing in a tight zone. Right now OHS is focused. This team is all about the next game. They are very business like right now and that bodes well for them going forward. Miller was an absolute stud tonight. I believe he had over 20 pts and double digit boards. Holman was a menace blocking shots and altering several more. Senior shooting guard Dylan Sanford had a 20 point effort and his shooting is spot on right now. Also sophomore guard Jacoby Harris is starting to blossom into the player most have expected him to be. He's aggressive, smart, and making good decisions. Also I want to congratulate Meade on a great season. They are a very sound basketball team and their upset over Apollo is one that'll be talked about for years in Brandenburg. Also those kids are gritty and super deadly from 3 point land.
  4. I'm sure Collins will be looking for a little "Hail Mary" payback but I think OHS has too much experience and focus to slip up in the first round. All the talk after the game tonight was the first round game. I think Collins needs OHS to be looking past them but I can tell y'all that it won't happen. Gimme OHS by 10.
  5. Congrats to Jay Fallon! I had to miss the introduction yesterday but I feel like the people who are associated with the OHS football program are very excited about this hire. While I do have some reservations because of his lack of experience, I do think he deserves a fair shake which is exactly what he'll get. OHS has a very tough schedule next year, but he'll have a ton of talent returning. Many of those kids have been working out since right after the state championship game. He has my full support, and welcome to the biggest seat in the Boro.
  6. Fourtimes is an OHS hater. 97 OHS was loaded, but Apollo found a way to win the one that mattered. It happens. OHS won the LIT in 97, which at that time was about the equivalent of the state tournament. Apollo can beat OHS this year, but lets not get it twisted, OHS is hands down the best team in the 3rd. This year, OHS has beat Warren Central, Daviess County (2x), Bowling Green (2x), Bardstown, Harrisburg (IL), Apollo (2x), and Evansville Bosse. Yes, they lost to Doss and Wayne County (led both games, without Jacoby Harris) and laid an egg at Trinity. Most teams would give their right arm for that kind of season. Hater.
  7. The biggest factor for Apollo was Eli attacking the basket. When Eli sets outside and shoots he helps the opposing teams. He's a slasher who can shoot at times but needs to attack more often than not. Moss did a good job on griffin but Apollo holding Stewart Currie to 4 points was the biggest defensive effort of the game. And let's not forget Trace Young. He scores 10 points with two monster dunks while blocking and altering shots on defense. Several times DC's Marshall Griffin would get to the rack only to be denied by Young. He's given Apollo a dimension that they wouldn't have had if he didn't transfer in. Although most feel like OHS is the runaway favorite in the 3rd, Apollo has the capability to upset OHS. While Fridays game is meaningless, the real battle will happen in regionals. I didn't want to see Apollo win cause I know they match up with OHS in spots. And Eli wright is capable of going for 30 any time he steps in the floor. Having said that, Apollo has to be careful against a letdown in the regional tournament. As talented as Apollo is, I feel like they're capable of losing to a team like Muhlenburg, Meade, or breck. No matter what happens Friday, I feel pretty confident OHS will be in the regional final. Should be a fun ride!
  8. Eli Wright takes over the second half after picking up 2 fouls in the first half. Apollo moves on to the regional for the first time in 3 years. Congrats Panthers on a good season as well.
  9. I believe owensboro takes off a full month off during the summer. Coach prince has done this for quite a while now and the kids seems to like it.
  10. First of all, thank you coach Prince for all you've done at OHS. You've been a positive influence and a rock of stability for several kids who've needed it. I think coach prince makes several great points. Rambo did as well. I think some coaches haven't used common sense over the years and it's been detrimental to the health of some players. I agree with Rambo that 7on7s should be brought back in June but I also agree with coach prince that it could be overdone if coaches aren't careful. Like anything, there is realm of common sense that needs to be observed and as well all know, some people have no common sense. I also agree with coach prince that more people interested in coaching should be encouraged to pursue education. Speaking of, I should probably finish my degree at wku in middle school social studies lol. I also agree with sports fans who said schools need to do a better job of getting coaches in the schools they coach at. Also, never underestimate the value of parents. Try to keep them doing as much as possible like sending kids to camps and getting their kids proper nutrition. If parents aren't an option then find someone close to a kid or get volunteers to help with extra things. There are many folks who will be more then happy to help (with no pay) for the betterment of the program. Guys with full tome jobs who just want to pitch in. Great points, and I think everyone wants to see Kentucky high school football improve.
  11. I think it's fair to say we agree to disagree. With the end result, you probably have more merit and I think it's fist to say we both have biased opinions. Keep in mind that Holman is 17 and that's another reason he needs prep school. Holman has several other D1 offers but his desire to attend UoL and Pitino wanting him to go to prep school is the main reasons he's prepping. Shacka Smart has basically lived in owensboro the past year trying to get Holman to VCU. And yes once Holman got the ball on the block Trinity would slide a guy over as they should've. Trinity is very well coached. OHS' guards played scared and against a talented team like Trinity, if you're scared, you're done. Again, hopefully OHS and Trinity can do it again at Rupp! And FWIW...Pitino as been know to misevaluate talent a time or two lol.
  12. Why not? Give it a whirl! Lol All I stated was that Holman showed a more diversified game which I think will make him a better college player. Spaulding is primarily a post player and at 6-9 is going to have a hard time getting those shots in college. Holman can score down low and outside. Holman did finish with 15 points, 10 boards and 6 blocks. Not too shabby for a guy that was constantly double teamed all night.
  13. If you think Spaulding is better than Holman and its not close, I have to question your basketball IQ. Most of spauldings points came off turnovers, which to his credit, he forced. But when he had to actually post up, he was largely ineffective. Holman is far more diversified in his skill set and showed that last night with jumpers, and scoring on the block. Holman also had a few 3s go in and out. I give total credit to trinity because they made OHS pay dearly for every single mistake. OHS had well over 20 turnovers many of which were sloppy or ill advised passes. OHS guards need to penetrate more. When Harris was penetrating OHS cut into the lead and was a missed 3 pointer from cutting it to 3 in the 3rd. OHS then went back to passing the ball around the outside and trinity put the game away off turnovers and easy baskets. Again, credit to trinity but I don't honestly feel like they're 17 points better than OHS. This game will benefit the Red Devils as will the next two against Henderson and Hoptown. 3rd region teams have a way of making OHS "play down" because most every team in the 3rd mucks it up against OHS. Good luck to the rocks and hopefully we can do it again in Rupp!
  14. I still have nothing. If anyone hears anything feel free to post!
  15. This hire doesn't scream "homerun" but Branham has to be given an opportunity to prove himself and he'll have plenty of tools to do so next year. In my opinion, DC is going to find out very quickly if they made the right hire because the Panthers return most of their skill guys. Dc's biggest problem has been getting stops against good teams. If DC can shore up the defense the panthers could make some noise. As it the hire, I think the results on the field will be the determining factor. I hear a lot of DC folks are super excited and if they're excited then I'm excited for them. I though Kimbrell laid a solid foundation so lets see if Branham can build upon that.
  16. Another good effort for Apollo. Having Eli at pg allows him to create which is kinda what Sargent did with Eli last year. Defenses tend to collapse on Eli which opens up everyone else. Hendo is legit and I can't wait to see OHS match up with them. Last year I felt OHS was better but they zone allowed Hendo to make a zillion 3s and the colonels came back to beat OHS last year. Potentially, OHS and hendo could play in the second round at the state tourney. Apollo remains a very dangerous team. If Apollo can get past DC in the first round, the eagles are very capable of upsetting OHS and get to state. Apollo just has to keep working to get better the last 2 weeks. They are close. Very close.
  17. Great road win last night for the Devils. This is the second time OHS has beat BG this year, and I think the purples will probably win the 4th region. Holman is in total beast mode and if not for the overall team talent on OHS' squad, could be scoring more. Holman has triple doubles in almost half on his games. Let that sink in for a moment. It's one thing to go out and average 30+ PPG by jacking up 30 shots a game but Holman is playing complete basketball by averaging nearly a triple double. If Holman lights it up at trinity on Saturday, look for Holman to gain serious attention for Mr. Basketball. Yes OHS has a tough final 3 games (@ trinity, vs Hoptown, @hendo) but this is exactly what OHS needs going into district. I can't wait to get up to louisville on Saturday and see how OHS stacks up! #FILD
  18. Good point Brown. According to the press release, Chris Gaddis stated that they were going to form a committee to go through the coaching search. I don't know if they've already done that or if any thing has been decided. No much talk right now and hopefully I can find out some answers tonight.
  19. A ton of OHS fans would like to have John Edge, but I don't know where the administration stands with it. I honestly believe John Edge could do big things at OHS, but the chances of that happening are slim to none. I don't think Edge will make the move and I'm not sure some folks over at OHS want him (which is completely insane). I just hope OHS gets a coach who will continue the good things that Prince has done (ie off the field stuff, classroom) and build upon the potential of the program. I think OHS can get to the level of Bowling Green and Highlands and be a regional player. The question is: Is the OHS administration content with city county titles or are they wanting to be playing in state championship games on a yearly basis? We'll find out very soon what the answer is.
  20. See what you did!!! Lol. The first thing Apollo needs to do is decide if the want to take football seriously. The talent is there to have a very solid 5A program. They just need to get the staff in place to make it happen. Guys like Jacque Williams, Boomer Fountain, and Bryan Wilson have done a good job at Burns Middle. Maybe Apollo should bring those guys up. If nothing changes I expect another long season in 2015.
  21. I got nothing. I literally have heard nothing except a random text about Guy Morris possibly being interested.
  22. The candidates are Jason Morris, Ed Smart, and Matt Branham I think. There could be a couple more but those are the names I've heard.
  23. Something tells me four times isn't an OHS fan, lol. The only team that will keep OHS from going to state is OHS. Apollo has the tools to be better and we'll find out tomorrow if the eagles are ready to take that next step. Apollo is really the only team that I feel like is a legitimate threat to OHS. Eli and trace are a great 1-2 punch. If apolo can make it outta the first round of district I can see an OHS Apollo regional final. Also I think people are sleeping on DC. The panthers are sneaky good. Marshall Griffith and Stewart currie are legit and the role players for DC are starting to come on. I think DC is a better team than Apollo but Apollo has better players. Should be a fun ride. And...I'm not so much worried about OHS' record over he last 5 games. The competition will have OHS primed going into district which is what matters. Remember if Jacoby Harris doesn't get hurt at the KOB, OHS could be undefeated.
