What does Daviess County need to do to improve in 2015? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

The first thing Daviess County has to do is hire a head coach. They will have a new one in 2015. I think an announcement is coming soon. The Panthers return some VERY nice talent next season. Upcoming junior quarterback Adam Bouchard will attend the Elite 11 camp in Columbus Ohio. He is one of only 25 underclassmen nationally to be selected for this event. The kid has all the tools to be a QB on the next level. Also, im very high on 6-5 wide receiver John Stratton. He looks like a college prospect to me. County has potential to have a very solid program going forward.

The candidates are Jason Morris, Ed Smart, and Matt Branham I think. There could be a couple more but those are the names I've heard.

I've thought all along that this was one of the better jobs out there right now.

 

I'm not exactly sure what happened to Kimbrell, but it seemed like things were heading in the right direction and they definitely have some really good looking kids.

 

You get to live in WKY & Owensboro at that, need I say more.

 

Yeah, they are 6A...but, who cares. That argument is becoming highly overrated IMO. It was valid in 4 classes, but now? Every class and almost every single region has their year in, year out Derby favorites.

 

Outside of MAYBE 1A West with Mayfield moving to 2A (the only difference now is that rep will be Beechwood or Russellville, I'm not sure it gives any of the others in that side anymore hope) and a couple of other regions in some larger classes...many, across all classes know their inevitable end to the next season (s).

Ed Smart + Elite 11 regional QB = ?

Ed Smart is the clear cut best choice. High character, proven winner at schools with limited athletes, certified teacher, family man, HC experience.

How does a guy ever get experience if no one gives him a shot. Matt Brannon is a longtime assistant at DC and KWC, well liked by the kids and parents. Sounds like a homerun to hire a young enthusiastic assistant who is hungry. In Western KY right now there are lots of nice jobs: Madv. North, Warren Central, Warren East and Owensboro. If I was Smart I'd make a run at OHS, they run the veer his specialty, his Grayson teams have beaten OHS before and there may be some teaching jobs open when Prince leaves. I know that is an issue at most schools, what jobs are available.

DC would miss out on an excellent coach if they passed on Smart. That said I would love to see what he could do with the athletes that Owensboro has year in and year out. Not sure what Owensboro has coming back but just the fact that are familiar with his offense would mean he could hit the ground running.

No doubt in my mind that there is anybody in our state that does more with less.

 

But, he runs this offense where they always line up under center and run it 90% of the time....wins more at a place than they ever have before (or will after he leaves, if that ever happens) by a land slide.

 

...style points are a PITA to overcome in this state.

 

This QB that Daviess has might be a game changer, though. Different kind of dude you are talking about when you mention Elite 11 potential. Even still, his offense, his knowledge...no doubt he would adapt.

 

Jason Morris would do a heck of a job, too.

I am sure Daviess will hire from within, they don't appear to be very interested in changing the perception.

Unbelievable! This school makes a change in the head coach and has an opportunity to hire a proven winner in Ed Smart and goes in this direction. I would really like to know why dismiss Kimbrell and basically make no change. Nothing against the coach they hired but why make a change and do this?
