Looks like the Eagles hung in there pretty tough.. Closer than I expected. Another solid win for Henderson County.

Eli Wright had 20 for the Eagles. Colonels (24-3) host Webster County (23-4) Friday night for the #1 seed in the district tournament and automatic bid into the Regional tournament.

Colonels have brutal schedule to close out the season. Webster County friday night, Owensboro at home next Thursday and at Louisville Trinity next Friday night.

Not to close Henderson was up 20 and stopped playing.

Apollo cut it to 3 late

Apollo may have found something tonight by putting Eli Wright at the point. They looked like a different team when Eli created on offense. Trace Young is still learning his role but I really like Trace on the wing and Eli at point. I thought Caleb Coomes helped lead Apollo back in the 4th but when the game got close Coomes never saw the floor. I dunno why?

 

On the flip side, Henderson is the real deal. Even when Apollo was playing well it looked like Henderson was about 10 points better. Simmons is legit!! I've seen Hendo on ihigh a few times and the are just as impressive in person. Hard to beat a team when they open the game 6-6 from long range. I'm interested to see how they play OHS next week.

Another good effort for Apollo. Having Eli at pg allows him to create which is kinda what Sargent did with Eli last year. Defenses tend to collapse on Eli which opens up everyone else.

 

Hendo is legit and I can't wait to see OHS match up with them. Last year I felt OHS was better but they zone allowed Hendo to make a zillion 3s and the colonels came back to beat OHS last year. Potentially, OHS and hendo could play in the second round at the state tourney.

 

Apollo remains a very dangerous team. If Apollo can get past DC in the first round, the eagles are very capable of upsetting OHS and get to state. Apollo just has to keep working to get better the last 2 weeks. They are close. Very close.
