Owensboro 90 Owensboro Catholic 54

Boy......the Devils came to play basketball tonight. While i expected OHS to win the game, i never expected they would do so with a running clock. They came out running and pressing and the Aces never had an answer. OHS looked like a machine. Not only could they not be stopped inside, but they were on fire from long range as well, shooting 71% in the first half. I realize its only one game vs a team that doesnt matchup very well, but Owensboro looks focused and locked in for a deep tournament run.

For Catholic its the end of a long and disappointing season. The Aces battled injuries all season and never really got it going. The bright side for Aces fans, they have a great middle school program and a freshman team that is very talented. Best of all, they have a great young head coach in Neil Hayden. 2-3 years from now Catholic will be in the mix for a regional crown.

Owensboro has beat the weaker teams they have played, however against teams with any good talent they either lost or barely won. I look for this to be 1997 all over again as far as the regional tourney goes. Owensboro was vastly overrated at seasons start, and didnt beat a top 20 team all year

In 1997 Owensboro won the L.I.T beating Ballard,Butler,& PRP if I'm not mistaken. They also beat Henderson that year who was in the King of the Bluegrass and was a top 10 team at least starting that season. Devils also beat Eville Bosse who was very good if my memory is holding up. I'm sure they played some other top teams that year. They lost to Apollo in the region after beating them like 3 times that year. That Apollo team had 6'8 KY All Star Marc Salyers who will probably end up in Samford Universities Hall of Fame. He played professionally overseas for 10+ years. Eagles also had 6'5 Fred McHenry who went Juco then to Northern Iowa(Yes the current top 15 Northern Iowa program). 6'6 Mario Hall went to Lindsey Wilson or KY State. Bobby Zuerner went to KWC. And there were some other kids who played college ball. That is one of the strongest years for basketball talent in Owensboro history. No shame in losing to that group of Apollo Eagles. This year Apollo has similar talent to 1997. For whatever reason it hasn't come together for them up until now but it won't be a big upset if the Eagles win the region. Now if OHS was to lose to Meade,Edmondson, etc it'd be different IMO.

Good post by Red & Black. I feel like Apollo is the underdog to OHS without a doubt but it wouldn't be a major upset if they found a way to beat them in the regional final. As an Apollo fan, that 1997 regional tournament stands out as one of the best for me. Not only the game vs OHS but coming from 6 down with 20 some seconds left to beat Muhlenberg North.....wow.

IF, OHS makes it back to Rupp, they have to find a way to play with the same confidence and urgency I've seen from them vs lesser opponents.

Fourtimes is an OHS hater. 97 OHS was loaded, but Apollo found a way to win the one that mattered. It happens. OHS won the LIT in 97, which at that time was about the equivalent of the state tournament. Apollo can beat OHS this year, but lets not get it twisted, OHS is hands down the best team in the 3rd. This year, OHS has beat Warren Central, Daviess County (2x), Bowling Green (2x), Bardstown, Harrisburg (IL), Apollo (2x), and Evansville Bosse. Yes, they lost to Doss and Wayne County (led both games, without Jacoby Harris) and laid an egg at Trinity. Most teams would give their right arm for that kind of season.

Hater.

Hater is a pretty strong label...I've never said anything bad about them...I gave my opinion on what I think will happen in the regional tourney..thats all I did...they have had a good season..no doubt..as far as 1997 OHS had lost center Brian Douglas who graduated the year before off the state tourney team..Davenport was the only talent left as far as a Holman/Miller type player. I would like nothing more then to see OHS bring home state title # 5 , believe me..I'm just thinking that it's gonna be an upset year...that's all..
