  1. 2011. Ironically, lost to Rockcastle in the semifinals. Rock would then win the state title. Nine years later they meet again.
  2. Absolutely. They really had no choice, especially with the region starting on Monday. Whatever the 1997 version of BGP was probably had some folks fussing and cussing about a coin flip, though! :lol2:
  3. I don't have any record of that on the boys side (Pendleton lost a one-point heartbreaker to Brossart in the district), but maybe the girls? I know Falmouth was heavily flooded. I remember our church sending relief supplies to a sister congregation there.
  4. Can't play Male since they are in the same district. I'd imagine X would want the Manual/Central winner instead of Ballard or Trinity.
  5. Really nice season for Phelps, who is now 21-10. The Hornets have won 11 in a row heading into the region tournament.
  6. Spring of 1997 saw torrential rains and devastating flooding on the Licking River and Ohio River, among other parts of Kentucky. According to the National Weather Service 92 counties in Kentucky were declared disaster areas. Tens of thousands of people were evacuated from their homes, with total damage across the region around $400,000,000. The Ohio River rose to the highest levels since March of 1964. Tragically, 19 deaths occurred in Kentucky; 9 were people who attempted to cross flooded roadways. The Flood of 1997 Not nearly as important, but something I've never heard discussed on BGP, was the conclusion of the 37th District tournament. Played at Harrison County, the game was called at halftime due to rising waters in the area. Officials and administrators decided to use a coin flip to determine the winner, with Bourbon County getting the lucky landing. The luck wouldn't last, however, as Bourbon County lost to Fleming County in the first round of the region. Flooded Harrison County, losers of the coin flip, would go on to win the 10th Region crown and beat Apollo in the state tournament at Rupp Arena before bowing to Paintsville in the quarterfinals. Does anyone recall this game? Even with flooding and dangerous conditions, I can't believe anyone would be happy with a coin flip to determine a champion.
  7. Boyle was up 15 at halftime in this one. Darrian Bell is an outstanding player for Danville. He just wills that team forward.
  8. Entire season became a giant what-if for North Oldham after the Powell injury.
  9. Not that one playoff win makes any difference, but Anderson County was 10-0 in 2018 but had a first round bye because Grant County dropped out off the opposite district. Highlands came to Anderson and won a close round two game, 14-10. I remembering thinking that was pretty tough luck for Anderson County - undefeated season, district championship, no warm up playoff game, and have to play one of the better programs in your first game of the postseason.
  10. Nice win for Western. Quite a few of the lesser known Jefferson County teams (read: not Male, Ballard, T, and X) are having very solid years. It has been a good year for high school hoops in Louisville.
  11. Admittedly I've not watched Duke consistently, but it seems like his minutes have been fewer and fewer every time I watch.
  12. Agreed. But their schedule over the last month has been pretty tough, too. District games with Garrard, Boyle, and Lincoln; road games at Pulaski and Somerset; home game with a good East Jessamine team. The Ads haven't shied away from good competition of late.
  13. Not a surprise. Difference between 1-4 in the 41st district is minimal. Frankfort has played very well since the start of the All A region, winning twelve of their last fifteen.
  14. Lewis is always a hard out in the district. With all the goings-on at Greenup over the last week, this was a pretty easy game to pick.
  15. First region appearance since 2010 for Owsley County. Powell had knocked Owsley out of the district in six of the last nine years.
  16. No buying this as an upset. I know Trinity isn't what they were last season and I know Waggener won the first game pretty big, but this was never going to be easy for Waggener. Trinity is still a solid club, no matter the record.
  17. I’ve seen BYU a few times and really like how they play. Pope is doing a good job.
  18. I'll add to this, dropping the curtains on the endzone upper deck seats has made the atmosphere better. With the addition of chair back seats on the sides of the upper deck I think those seats, while not great, will be much more appealing to the average fan than the old benches.
  19. Didn’t get to see. My son’s little league team had practice same time as the game. From what I heard from those there, Rockcastle’s size was a problem and they were in control pretty much from the get go.
  20. It was showing up on my desktop but not on my phone. Not sure what it was. Never seen that before.
  21. The Berea football open job thread, but I didn’t actually post. I started typing this question then realized I should start my own thread.
