  1. Previous stardom is the key, though, and it jades any potential considerations of Jordan as a pro ball player. Is he called up because of talent or because of name recognition? And I'll say this: if Jordan had stayed in baseball for three more years and was called up to the majors as a 34-year old, worthy or not, I wouldn't fault the organization for doing so.
  2. No. I think 1,500 more at bats might have made him a potential MLB player. But how many 34 year olds are being called up to the majors for the first time?
  3. Definitely feels like Reinsdorf kept him with the Bulls salary to guarantee he'd be with Chicago if/when he stopped playing baseball. I was happy to hear the reason he went to AA. I always assumed they felt like AA was where he fit best. I had never considered the massive amount of media space that was necessary.
  4. I question this. He hit .202 as a 31 year old in AA. Francona said he could have made the majors with 1,500 more at bats. That's three more seasons, making him 34 years old. I think Jordan might have had a professional baseball future had he started playing minor league ball right out of college. I highly doubt he'd have been in the Majors for anything other than a publicity cup of coffee. Remember: Jordan's people had a say in what is and isn't in this documentary.
  5. It may be taken down. You only have to post for 15 days I believe. They probably are getting ready to interview and/or hire.
  6. That method only existed for four years, from 1987-90.
  7. Didn't mean that at all. Wasn't clear in what I was saying. I meant to say that Life Christian appeared to be a step up from last season. Hopefully it will be a good game.
  8. FWIW, Calpreps says Trinity beats Life Christian 31-13 last season. That's a lot more competitive than Waubonsie Valley.
  9. Marty Reagan from Rockcastle is a blast from the past. He was a terrific player.
  10. Not sure about the previous poster, but I'm almost positive he spend a year or two as an assistant under Dave McDaniel at Garrard County in the 90s. It was around the time I was going from middle school to high school. I don't remember anything about him other than his name.
  11. Boyle was a “nothing program” for about four years prior to Smith arriving. I think they had nine consecutive winning seasons and a couple playoff berths between 1979-87.
  12. 1974. Todd didn't even make the playoffs that year. Murray represented District 1. They were both undefeated in district play but Murray got the bid due to Dickinson, I believe.
  13. Not a bad read but not my favorite. It’s a little dry and a little technical (and kinda depressing for the first 2/3), but it finished strong.
  14. Correct. I think they were the only team in history to beat both T and X in the same postseason (or maybe it was in back to back weeks) until Male did it a couple years ago.
  15. Holy Cross receiving votes in 4A. In a couple years they’d be 1A. Does anyone know how many kids Holy Cross had in the late 80s/early 90s? They always punched above their weight.
  16. Danville played them in Lexington at perhaps the Bluegrass Bowl or some other name. Steel Valley quarterback was Charlie Batch who would go on to play at Eastern Michigan and then for many years in the NFL.
  17. Bourbon came out of nowhere that season in the sense that they had never really been good before, but Bourbon was really good that year. They were ranked 12th here (remember, there were 50+ teams in each class then) and had finished third in a stacked district with Boyle, Danville, and Lexington Catholic. They had some really good players, too. I think the Bourbon story has become somewhat mythical with many people erroneously calling them a 4-seed (they were a 3) and acting as if they were 2-8 headed to the postseason. This was, in truth, a very good team all season that showed it in the playoffs.
  18. I want to say 96 because that was the year Nelson won it all, but Garrard would have been in the top ten in 1A and they aren't. I'll go with 1998.
  19. 1-10 in 2016, 1-10 in 2017, 3-7 in 2018, 6-5 in 2019. It may not be great competition but they are starting to win ballgames and build interest, something every program needs. And as I said in the previous post, they aren't ready to compete in the district. By the way, your Central Hardin Bruins were 2-8 in 2002, 2-8 in 2003, 3-7 in 2004, 5-6 in 2005. Growth, improvement. Fifteen years later they are being discussed among the top ten in 6A. You have to crawl before you can walk. No need to disparage a growing program (or other smaller programs) because they aren't as good right now as the team you support.
  20. Barren isn't ready to compete in the district but I like the progress they've made with that program. After years of really struggling they've become much more competitive.
  21. That's right. There is a Sullivan College branch in Lexington but the main campus was Louisville. Here's an interesting article about Sullivan's basketball history. A Basketball Legacy that Might Surprise You | Sullivan News
