  1. There used to be one at Paducah, Jackson, and Sullivan in Lexington. I’m not sure any have played basketball since the late 80s/early 90s.
  2. It almost feels like MLB is crowd sourcing this. Just throw out a different realignment idea every couple of weeks and see which one people seem to like more. I'm hopeful baseball can return soon (only because I'm selfish and really miss it), but am very curious to see how it ends up playing out with regards to season length, playoff schedule, etc.
  3. Very good point. Nelson boys have never won the 5th Region and have only twice made the finals, losing in 1992 and 1993.
  4. And the Nelson County split came at a time when the county was expecting to grow due to an influx of people to Fort Knox, along with other prevailing growth. None of that ended up happening, which meant they split a medium/large school that struggled at times to compete into two medium sized schools that haven't been very competitive at all, at least in boys basketball and football.
  5. I know not all Reds games were on TV at the time but quite a few were. I’m assuming that game wasn’t on TV anywhere. Clearly a single shot camera up top behind the plate.
  6. I'd say the days of coaches getting a new car after being shut out by Green County in the first round are probably over!
  7. I still feel like school will open after Labor Day, with football (and other fall sports) being played but likely a shorter season. I hope I'm wrong.
  8. This shutdown has likely sped up the inevitable for some colleges across the country. There are so many in America, in part because they sprung up in the 1800s when travel was difficult, so many communities had colleges to educate the people (they often taught students down to the lower grades - several in Kentucky did so). Now the colleges have had to steadily increase their prices and it has made it more and more difficult to recruit, especially against larger state colleges. Mix that with the notion that has began to prevail from many over the last couple of decades that colleges should serve as more of a trade school and less of a place of learning liberal arts and you've got a recipe for school closures. We'll see many more in the coming decade.
  9. FWIW, here is the break down of teams appearances in both tournaments: TEAM NIT NCAA Alabama 16 21 Arkansas 4 32 Auburn 6 10 Florida 10 22 Georgia 14 12 Kentucky 9 59 LSU 8 22 Ole Miss 12 9 Miss State 9 11 Missouri 8 27 S. Carolina12 9 Tennessee 13 22 Texas A&M 7 14 Vanderbilt 12 15
  10. Boom! Ole Miss has played in the NIT 12 times and the NCAA 9. Good work 4 Quarters!
  11. Correct on South Carolina. 12 trips to the NIT, only 9 to the NCAA. Vandy is close, but they've been to the NCAA three times more than the NIT. One more left.
  12. Georgia is correct. 14 trips to the NIT, 12 to the NCAA. Tennessee and Alabama are incorrect. Two more to go.
  13. There are three Southeastern Conference schools that have played in the NIT more times than they have played in the NCAA. Without looking, can you name them?
  14. Original post said Male’s 2020-21 team would play in it, almost like a preseason tournament. Mr. Network said students should have the option to come back, not that they necessarily would.
  15. The Wynn Harris at Hickman is NOT the same Wynn Harris who coached baseball at South Laurel and Lexington Christian.
  16. Just on the edge. Four district championships, 3 regions, 3 state tournament games won during the '60s to finish ranked 18th. They won another 4 districts, 2 regions, and 1 state tournament game in the 70s to finish 35th. The problem for CovCath was that they went to the state five straight times but it overlaid two different decades.
  17. By the way, this idea is a slight modification of something I heard Bob Huggins talking about last month. Huggins Explains Idea of Starting Next Season with NCAA Tournament Huggins stated the 2020 NCAA tournament should have been rescheduled for September. I think Huggins knew it was unrealistic to play the NCAA in the fall, just as I knew it was unrealistic to play the Sweet 16 in December. It was, however, interesting to see how many people were immediately against the idea. I do appreciate the discussion!
  18. True. But what the original post said was that any student still in school during the 2020-21 school year would represent their team. And I agree, it isn't going to happen.
  19. One of the best books I've read in some time. Obviously the focus is on CCNY and the gambling scandal of the early 1950s, but if you are interested in the mafia, corruption, immigrants and religion, New York City in the fifties - it's all there. Terrific read!
  20. It is becoming very clear that no sports are going to be played for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. We're left without a state tournament in boys and girls basketball and no spring championships of any kind. There have been suggestions floated on social media for allowing seniors to return for a fifth year (I think Florida has even tentatively agreed to it). The KHSAA doesn't seem in favor of this and neither do most. But what about this idea... Sweet 16 in December -Tournament consists of the 16 boys teams that qualified and 11 remaining girls teams from the 2020 state tournament -Games are played in December 2020 following the football state championship weekend -Members of 2020-21 teams participate (no returning seniors from previous year) -Remainder of Girls First Round played Monday, December 7 -Girls first round redrawn with remaining six teams: Region 1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 4, 10 vs. 16. Games played at one of the schools. -Boys First Round played Tuesday, December 8 -Boys Bracket is redrawn with Region 1 playing Region 2, Region 3 playing Region 4, and so on. Games played at one of the schools. -Girls Second Round played Wednesday, December 9 -Girls second round modified. Region 1/2 winner at 3/4 winner; Bullitt East vs. Anderson County; Ryle vs. 10/16 winner; Casey County vs. South Laurel -Boys Second Round played Thursday, December 10 -First round winners advance to second round. Region 1/2 winner at 3/4 winner, etc. -Final Four held in Lexington area (maybe Frederick Douglass or Clark County?) -Girls semifinals on Friday night -Boys semifinals on Saturday afternoon -Girls championship Saturday night -Boys championship Sunday afternoon Winner is considered the 2020 state champion. Games serve dual role - 2020 state tournament games but also 2021 regular season games. First and second round losers are permitted to play 31 games during regular season, semifinalists and finalists can play 32 games (if they choose). 2020-21 regular season plays out as normal with boys and girls state tournaments held in March 2021. Thoughts?
